I am researching the movement of my great grandfather, Jeremiah Halahan. It is my dream to link up to other living Halahan relatives and I have no hope of doing so unless I find a link between my ggrandfather and some of his siblings’ descendents. He was born in a town near Macroom, Co. Cork in 1841. His father was a stone mason and went by the name of Patrick but may have had the given name of Michael. There is a possibility that he was also a farmer.
I was thrilled to find Jeremiah earlier this year but I have lost him again .... his first wife, Deborah Noonan, died in Lahore - then part of India in 1877 (she was only 24). They married in Cork in October 1870 and went to India that same year. Jeremiah was actually returning to India having spent the previous 10 years there. They had two children there .. Mary Halahan dob 1872 and Henry dob 1875.
Jeremiah left his regiment in 1879 – he was in Chester, England at the time ... February 1879.
Jeremiah appears to have remarried in Dec 1879 in Co. Antrim, Ireland. He married a widow by the name of Jean McCullogh nee Copeland. She was only 28 so it is VERY likely they had children together ... I can find no trace of them and wonder if h went back to India or perhaps headed for South Africa.
My email address is I'd love to hear from ANYONE who has any possible links so we can investigate more thoroughly.
