Classification: Query
Surnames: Hale Cannon Smith
I am looking for info on a Samuel A HALE b. Feb.1876. He was married to Margaret M. LNK. Her age on the 1910 census was 28. They were the parents of Robert H. b abt 1901, Charles Roosevelt b.June 28 1904 d.Jan 15 1995 (this is my main line I am working through. He married Texie CANNON), and daughters Rosetta Leah b abt 1908, Ollie b. abt 1911 (married Wiley CROSSWHITE), and Willie b. abt 1913.

Sam was the daughter of UNK Hale and Anna L. SMITH. Sam was found on the 1910 census in Civil District 1 in Bristol TN, was listed as a laborer for a logging company was not working on April 15, 1910 and was out of work for 12 weeks in 1909. Listed as Samuel S HALE in index
He was found on the 1920 census in Bristol VA Ward 3, was listed as a laborer for Paul Jilliard? His wife Maggie on this census was listed as 89. Was this the same spouse as in 1910 (and an error on the census takers part) or a different one? I have no idea and living relatives don't have a clue

Anna (Sam's mother) is found in the 1880 census in 1st Civil District, Enumeration District #16, Sullivan county TN- is listed as a widow/divorced, works at home, age 27 in home of father John C. SMITH with 2 children Robert age 11, and Sam A age 4. Others in home include mother Jiney, sister Rebekah age 28, brother William age 26, grandson Chat? BRADLEY age 14, grandson John F. SMITH age 10.
The 1900 census Bristol TN has her as head of household with children Samuel and Janey (b. July 1881) in home as well as brother William W. Smith
The 1910 census in Bristol TN finds her in home of George and Janey(Jancie, Jincey) WILSON as boarder. Listed as mother of 3 children with 2 living. Maggie BRADLEY(possible sister to her) aged 64 also in home as boarder Obviously
since Sam was found on the 1910 and 1920 census and she was living in the home of Janey this means that Robert had to have died prior to 1910. I believe he had at least one son named Andrew but thats about all I know of Robert.

Any help with this family would be appreciated as I have no idea what Sam's father's name could have been. Does this ring a bell with any of your research?
Thanks for any help
Becky
