Hi Norm!!!! Welcome to the puzzle.
Somewhere along the line, Rachel Halfhill got listed as Samuel's daughter, and everyone's copied it. People added to their pedigree, but never really LOOKED at the dates they were adding. Samuel is 11 years YOUNGER than Rachel! What my research is pointing to is that maybe rachel was Samuel's SISTER instead of daughter. That could be an easy mistake along the way. As for Rachel's mom being an "unknown Rowlier," I have spent so much time running down any variation of Rowlier I could come up with, including Rowley. Nothing. Infact, Rowlier doesn't even seem to be an existing name.Nor does it mean anything, like an occupation, like "unknown servant" or something like that. On the other hand, There are some "unknown" children of Mathias Halfhill, which, of course, if one was Rachel, proves the theory of Samuel being her brother. What I need to find is a census or SOMETHING that shows Rachel before she married George Shoemaker. Rachel living with parents or siblings. Maybe she lived with Samuel, and thats where the confusion comes in.I think I now have every Shoemaker, including what color underwear they wore, ;} that descend from the George/Rachel union. They were so prolific!
I've got a line going back to Rudolph Shumacher in Germany/Alsace, going down through Pastorius, Dewalt, Mathias and further.
Since neither George Shoemaker nor Rachel Halfhill could read or write, some dates get fuzzy. Sort of whatever the census taker thought... or how good he was at math! Even how he wrote, since one's and seven's look almost exactly a like in old English... or Gothic.
Its so frustrating, but then I guess its the hunt that makes it fun!!
I thank you so much for helping! The goal: Rachel before George, LOL....
