I am still looking for connection to my Grandmother Edith Halford (DOB) 12th June 1900, not sure where she was born, but she had a son James Halford 28th June 1922,he was born in Leigh manchester, i dont know where Edith was married, where Edith was born there do not have clue i would be grateful if anyone as any information, going by my father james Edith had two sisters, all that he knows that they move to Canada, please email me ( beverelyhalford@hotmail.com)

I have been working on this family for several years.

You are related to James Jefferson Halford b. 14 Sep 1784 Rutherford, Albemarle County, NC. I descend from James brother John C. Halford b. 1787, my 4th great grandfather.

I have Nancy's parents as William Dalton b. Dec 1736 , Albemarle, Virginia, USA, d. 04 Jun 1819, Huntsville, Smith, Tennessee, USA; and Rachel Harris b. 24 Jun 1744 Albemarle, Albemarle, Virginia, USA, d. 1819 Huntsville, Smith, Tennessee, USA.

I have William's parents as Samuel Dalton b. 24 Mar 1699 Mayo River, Stokes, North Carolina, USA d. 29 Dec 1805 Rockingham, Stokes, North Carolina, USA and Ann Dandridge Redd b. 1718 Williamsburg, VA, USA d. 1800 Rockingham, NC, USA. Ann was daughter of George Redd and Ann Dandridge.

I have traced back to John Halford(1765-1803) and Nancy Dalton(1768-1804) and have now come across some trees that list different parents for Nancy. I was wondering if anyone knows who is correct. I am a descendent of their son James(1784-1834)

In North Carolina Research Genealogy and Local History it states, "guardians of orphans were appointed for children that had property belonging to them personally,... or that only one parent was dead. This might put a different spin on those unable to find ancestors! The mothers could still be alive and only remarried or living elsewhere.

My ggg grandmother had a sister Maria Topley who married William Halford. He was born abt 1822 in Margrets Parish Leicester, Leicestershire. William and Maria had at least 5 children that I'm aware of Thomas born abt 1847 in Walton On The Wolds, David born abt 1850, Samuel born abt 1855 in Thurmaston, Elizabeth born 1861 in Thurmaston and Rebecca born abt 1862 in Thurmaston.

My Gt grandfather was Nehemiah Halford born 1871 in Viney Hill. He married Elizabeth Cooke in 1894.

His father was also a Nehemiah Halford, born 1832 in Awle and married Annis Tooze (born 1837) on 31 Dec 1857.

Nehemiah Snr was born to John Halford (1801) and Ann Jenkins (1803) both of the Blakeney area.

Hutchins/Halfords Scott and Leake County Mississippi beyond 1870

I am looking for more info on Edmond R. and Mary Hutchins family. I found them in 1850 Federal Census with children in Leake County Miss. In 1860 they were still in Leake County with Jefferson Anglin living with them. Jefferson Anglin is my ggg grandfather. Jefferson married Sarah Ann Hutchins in 1859. She is one of the daughters of Edmond R. and Mary Hutchins.

In 1870 Edmond and Mary are living with children again plus William B. Halford Jr. who is Edmond R Hutchins nephew, Mary M. Hutchins and W.B. Halford's son. Mary M Halford passed away between 1860-1870. There daughter Elizabeth L Halford was living with J.G. and N.E. Hutchins in 1870 in Scott County Mississippi, Hillsboro Post office. There was also a younger brother John J Halford. Not sure what happened to him. In 1870 He would be around 14 years of age.

Im having trouble locating this Hutchins family after the 1870 Census. Im figuring Edmond and Mary passed away before the 1880 census, and the family scattered. Looking for any hints and clues from other relatives. Here are the names of Edmond and Mary's children:

Sarah Ann Hutchins born around 1937,
J.C. Hutchins born around 1839,
Latticia(?) A. Hutchins born around 1844,
John E. Hutchins born around 1847,
Willis G Hutchins born around 1853,
Robert Hutchins born around 1865,
Ellena Hutchins born around 1867,

I did find Sarah Ann Hutchins in 1880 back in Leake County Miss. She remarried H C Hale in 1879.

Any help or info on the rest of these Hutchins family members would be greatly appreciated.

ARREST ITALIAN ON GRAVE CHARGE
Gieb Section Man Charged With Contributin to Delinquency of Minors--Released.
A Mr. Halford, section foreman for the O. W. R. & N. railroad at Geib, a few miles southwest of Cheney, swore out a warrant the first of the week before Justice of the Peace H. N. Stronach for the arrest of Jim Custanzo, an Italian, charging him with contributin to the delinquency of minors.

The warrant was placed in the hands of City Marshal W. H. Ferguson, and the Italian was placed under arrest Wednesday morning and brought to town. He gave $25 bail for his appearance and the case was set for Thursday at 3 o'clock.

At the hearing the defendant admitted taking beer to the Halford home and also that two minor children of Halford, Agnes, aged 16, and Anthony, aged 10, each partook of the liquor, but that he did not give it to them, and that he had no evil intent in taking it to the Halford place. The young woman, when placed on the witness stand, corroborated in a measure the testimony of Custanzo.

The parents of the chiidren objected to the visits of the Italian to their home, and stated that his inflluence was bad.

The evidence not being sufficient, in the mind of the justice, to warrant holding the man to the superior court, he was assessed a fine of $25 and costs and 30 days in jail. The jail sentence was suspended pending good behavior. The prisoner paid the fine and costs and was allowed to go after Justice Stronach had warned him to stay away from the Halfrod home and not again furnish the boy and the young woman with liquior. He promosed to see that the full penalty was carried out if the prisoner apperared before him a second time.

Custanzo paid the fine and costs and promised to avoid the Halford place in future

Citation: Halford was sole survivor of the boat's crew sent to the Sandwich Islands for assistance after the wreck of the Saginaw, October 1870. Promoted to acting gunner.

My great grandparents were James Morse (1851-1923) and Eliza Smith (1853-1932) both from Blakeney Hill.

Two of their sons married daughters of William & Emma Halford:

Charles (1877) married Harriett Halford (1878) 09/09/1899 at Cinderford St John's.

Frank E (1891) married Minnie Halford (1894) 08/02/1919 at Viney Hill.

The Morse family were descendents of George Morse abt 1773 who was a cattle farmer at Blakeney Hill.

William George Gregory was born in Dublin, Ireland around 1858. He had a brother Jack (probably John Gregory) who
was a seaman.
Jack may have served on the vessel "S.S. Redbrook" but I'm not sure. I found someone matching him who ended up
as a boiler maker in San Francisco, CA and moved to Missouri, but I haven't researched that yet. He was known as "Uncle Jack" and had red hair.

By 1881 British Census I have William G. Gregory married and living at 39 Pitt Street, occupation listed as Tobacco Ast. (tobaccanist).
Census was at Surrey, England. He died 1897 in London, England.

He married a Sarah Halford, b. abt 1862. Sarah died of pneumonia 29 Jan. 1892. They had four children:

i. Evelina Catherine Margaretta b. 16 July 1884 at 72 High Street in the Sub-District of Kensington Town in the county of Middlesex, London, England. She emigrated to Canada and then Vermont. She died 10 Mar 1971 as Evelyn Kathleen Margaret Gregory Mallory. married Charles Harrington Mallory (b. 27 Oct 1874 in North Ferrisburgh, VT). They were married on 31 Oct 1911 in Burlington, Vermont.

ii. William Bernard b. 25 Mar 1886 d. 8 Mar 1965 Amherst, Massachusetts of pneumonia
buried in Wildwood Cemetery with wife Julia Kittredge Gregory
iii. Helen Sarah b. 12 June 1891 about
iv. twin sister b. 12 June 1891 died at birth (unsure)

I am looking for the parents of William G. Gregory of Ireland and any info on his brother, "Capt. Jack" Gregory with the flaming red hair.

I have a Sarah Halford as a possible mother to Sarah Halford, but not sure.
She was widowed and occupation listed as "stitcher".

Jonathan Adkisson Halford born about 1861 married Rosamond Malinda Burgin, born 1800. She is buried at Old Fort, NC. He is buried in AR, we believe. They had 7 children. I have most of their birthdates. 22 Mar 1845 was their marriage date.
