After posting this, I found a picture of Lorenda Halladay's headstone on www.findagrave.com. She was born on 23 Sep 1808 and died on 22 Aug 1899. Up until her death, she lived with her son, Edward L., who died 3 Jan 1916 in Hewins, Kansas. I have been in correspondence with the Chautauqua Co. Genealogical Society and they have sent me some great information. I wrote for his death certificate from the State of Kansas hoping that it would show Lorenda's maiden name but it didn't give it. It did say that Edward was buried in Cedar Vale so I assume that he would have been buried in the same cemetery as Lorenda. How sad that a tornado destroyed her tombstone!
