What was your father's name and do you know where he grew up. Yes the Halland family name did come from Norway.

My name is Mike Halland. So far everyone I have met or have heard about with the last name Halland has been related to me. My race is Norwegien and I was told that my ancestors migrated from Norway and made up the name Halland. I would love to hear from anyone that knows anything about my ancestry and could enlighten me on more history regarding the name. I actually grew up in Hawaii & would love to hear from other Halland's.

Hans Helland, wife Martha, children: Mary/Marie and son John. Hans had brother or son Osmond. Grandchildren: Martha, August, Jane Sites/Abrahamson/Ponto. Can you help me? I would greatly appreciate any leads.

Hi,
I came across your note on the message board and decided to try you out. I'm doing research on the emigration from Verdal, Norway, trying to find out what happened to the emigrants.
I have in my files a Gabriel Johnsen Halland, born May 24, 1835, in Verdal, at the Hallan farm (note the spelling). He moved in 1854 north to a place called Grong. I should mention here that Verdal is a place about 60 miles northeast of the city of Trondheim, and Grong is about 100 miles north of Verdal.
Gabriel was married in Grong to Anne Pedersdatter, born about 1839. According to the 1865 census, they had two children:
1. Johannes, b. Nov. 6, 1863 in Grong
2. unbaptized son, b. Dec. 27, 1865 (his name was Anthon Gunnerius, I have found out)
In addition they also had another son named Johannes, born May 10, 1859, before they were married. He may have passed away before the second Johannes was born.
The family emigrated in 1866.
If this information strikes a bull's eye with you, I would be interested in more information about this family. In return I may perhaps be able to help you, should you wish so.

Are you sure it is Halland and not Helland?
I know I have family in all your localites with the same
names but we spell ours Helland. Let me know.

Anton Martin Halland from Verdal, Norway and
