Thanks for the reply. I am trying to determine if they had a son Casper J. born 1793. Casper is my 4x great grandfather, but so far I have not been able to determine who his parents were. All I know is he was born 24 October 1793 and died 23 March 1885. The dates come from his gravestone in Limestreet Cemetery, West Athens.

Jeremy

Looking for any info on parents and/or siblings for:

Harris "Harry" DePlan Hallenbeck (Hollenbeck in some records)
DOB - 22 Jul 1882 in Yatesville, New York (NYS Birth Index)
DOD - 13 Nov 1959 in Los Angeles, California (California Death Index)
Burial - Grand View Memorial Park, Glendale, Los Angeles, California
Spouse -Katharin "Kitty" Adele Adams - married abt 1907 in New York.
No children

Kitty was my 2nd great grand aunt. Harris and Kitty moved to California sometime between the 1910 and 1920 Federal census along with her father, John Adams and her sister Rose. In 1910 census, they are living in Albany, NY but are living in LA, California by the 1920 census.

Since they had no children, that particular family branch ended but I was wondering if he had any siblings that carried on the family line. I know that there were many Hallenbecks in Albany County but I don't know where Harris fits in.

Thanks,
Pat

Hi Perry,
Sorry, the names you gave aren't familiar to me. My Hallenbeck line seems to be centered in New York/New Jersey as far as I've seen. I think the name Garrett is strong in the line, so it's possible that the one buried in Georgia is somehow connected but I haven't come across either Leona or a Minott Edwards. If I ever do I will absolutely let you know. Good luck with your search!
Kathleen

There is a Garrett Hallenbeck buried at Linwood Cemetery in Columbus, GA. Tombstone says he was born in Albany County, NY on 6/19/1797 and died 10/17/1868 in Columbus, GA. I am thinking he was kin to my Great Grandmother, no proof yet.
Her name is Leona Adeliade Hallenbeck, B. 10/6/1858 and died 9/21/1933, buried at Riverdale Cemetery in Columbus. She married Minott Everett Edwards. Have you ever came across this line?

Thanks, Perry

I just took a look at a photo I took 2 years ago of Casper's gravestone, and it would pretty much confirm he was born in the time-frame I am talking about.... It says: Casper J. Hallenbeck, Died March 23, 1885, Age 92 years. The stone is broken in half and laying on the ground, and the lower half is in much worse shape, but in person (not in the photo) I could just barely make out "Maria Halsey" on the stone. I know this is the right Casper, because the stone is adjacent to most of his children, and his son James R. was my 3x great-grandfather, based on family records and my great-grandmother, when she was still alive. Could Jasper be his middle name, or a nickname, and the J. could be Jacob after his father, assuming Jacob and Maria are his parents? What sources validate the marriage and death information of this Casper?

Casper & Maria [Bradt] had 7 children bpt in New Salem Reformed Church between 1815 and 1831.
This could not be your Casper.

Looking at Coxsackie/Athens Hallenbeck - possibility is s/o Joachim & Annatje Dederick bp 1798, says birth is May 16 (no year; sponsors are Eytje (Fitje) prob sis of Joachim who married John W Halenbeck. [recorded in Coxsacki RDC]

Possible earlier marriage to Rebecca Van Schaak, wife of Casper Hallenbeck (mar 20 Dec 1806) She dies 25 Sep 1819 and is buried in Van Vetchen Fam Cem, Cold Spring Rd, Coxsackie with /baby/.
I am trying to find information about Casper J. Hallenbeck. I have quite a bit of information about the older Hallenbecks from Greene County/Albany County NY, but am having trouble connecting him to them. Here's what I know:

Casper was born c. 1793 and married to Maria Halsey (Halsted?), b. c. 1805. They were married 1 Jan 1825 in the Reformed Church in Bethlehem, NY. They are buried in the Limestreet (Collechburh) Cemetery in West Athens, NY. Casper and Maria had the following children: Magdaline (b. 3 Jan 1826), William T. (c. 1834), Jane Ann (b. 27 Jul 1837) and James R. (my 3x g-grandfather, b. 31 Aug 1839). I have information from there down to me, but I have not been able to trace back any farther than Casper or Maria.

If they are from the Albany Co, New Scotland/Bethlehem/Guilderland families I may be able to help. (I have over 30,000 folks on my system and problably abt 1/3 of them are from the capital district of NY. I also have close access to many local repositories and do small research jobs for nominal fee.

I have a major corredction to list with this posting. There were two Cora Hallenbeck's. I have since found corrected parentage (not d/o William and Margaret, as initially believed). Have confirmed parentage via vital records, as that of John Hallenbeck/Hollenbeck of Albany,NY and Eve Ann Settle of Schoharie,NY. Cora WAS accurately married to Charles Havens Bremer, of Jefferson,Schoharie Co.,NY. Eve Settle was the daughter of Adam Settle/Zettle and Elizabeth Schaeffer, both of Schoharie,NY. Searching for anything at all on John Hollenbeck. I do not have a d.o.b. or hint at his parentage. Only that at time of marriage he was of Albany,NY. He may possibly have enlisted for/died in Civil War. Sorry for any confusion.

Joan, I'm on the trail of Percy's wife, and in the process found a great obituary for Percy's mother, Abigail Jane Hooker Hallenbeck. If you're interested, contact me. Also, do you have a death date for Percy? His wife, Florence Isabelle Kent, died in 1929, and it states "late Percy S." but I haven't found an obituary. I hope to hear from you.

Dorothea Hallenbeck m Laurens VanBuskirk

Dorothea and Laurens married on 16 Nov 1743 in New York Lutheran Church and had five children. I suspect she died 1755-1764 or so but have never seen a date in print. He later married a Catherine and his last two children, b 1765 and 1766, are presumed to be hers.

Also there is some question about her parents. Many sources credit Gerrett Isaacse Hallenbeck and Tomassine Earle as being her parents, but some lean toward Hendrick Hallenbeck and Susanna Bratt, including Irene Shoemaker who is (or was) the VanBuskirk guru. I favour Gerret and Tomassine, because Laurens and Dorothea named their first daughter and second son after them. But some additional proof would be nice.

Please address replies to maryvb47@gmail.com

Thanks
Mary VanBuskirk

Hi Joan,
Honestly, I only found him in trees on Ancestry while searching for info on Rebecca; I am related to the Ackerman and Hallenbeck families through a daughter of hers and Hendrick's. That's why I asked about how the connection was made, [not that anyone has to show me proof], I just wonder how anyone knows that Rebecca's father is Garrit/Gerritt (who was the son of Isaac) but no one seems to know her mother's name. It's just odd.
Part of the problem always is information being available for such a long time ago...I've been doing this for a few years off and on but still have a lot to learn about where to look.
One thing I can tell you - if you haven't already come across this - is that not all the info on a census record is necessarily correct. So many times it'll say a state where someone was born and I know absolutely that it wasn't right. It makes me wonder how it got confused, was it given wrong by the person; or someone else or what. When was your James born? How many census records have you found him in?
Have you tried tracking him through a wife's name? I sometimes use the children's name as a way to find a family too.
Thanks for replying, good luck with your search! I'll email you with my address, if you ever want to bounce ideas off me.

Hi Kathleen,
I have not heard of Gerrit Hallenbeck but...I have not got back as far as you have.
I am only as far as James William Hallenbeck, died 1891 in Brooklyn, New York.
Census says he was born in Connecticut but haven't found connection yet.
If I catch up with a wife's name, I will contact you for sure.
Joan Pickering e-mail: curious_956852000@yahoo.com
Gerrit Hallenbeck's wife?

I have been wondering this for a while...most every Hallenbeck tree has Gerrit Hallenbeck (born 1734 I think)and names as his daughter Rebecca (who went on to marry Hendrick Ackerman), yet not one tree names a wife.
So my question is this: how was the connection between Rebecca and Garrit made? And why is there no record of a wife anywhere? The family is pretty well documented, from what I have seen, and it's curious that his wife is not given on any tree.
