Thomas Halley was born in England in about 1662.
In the diary of Henry Simpson Halley (1789-1872), a great-grandson of Thomas, it is recorded that Thomas was born in Wales, but we have no other source for that information.
Thomas emigrated to America in about 1679 or before, for his name appears in the Parish Register in 1679, of the place now known as Truro Parish settled on Dogue Run, a small stream which empties into the Potomac River, just below Mount Vernon, then in Westmoreland County.
Here he built a log cabin where he and his wife raised their family.
The name of his wife has not been found and we do not know if he married in England or America.
If in England, he must have returned there after settling in Virginia, because he was presumably quite young when he emigrated from England, about 1679.
If his son, James, was born in England as is stated in Colonial Families of the United States it would prove that Thomas did return to England, because James Halley was born in 1707, twenty-eight years after his father, Thomas, first came to Virginia.
-----
Of Thomas Halley's family, we have no authentic record except for one son, James.

Timothy came to Kentucky about 1778 from North Carolina. Was probably the only member
of his family to come to Kentucky.
The Logan's were Scotch-Irish extraction. Buried in the Logan Cemetery on Kelly Ridge.
February 26,1780 Company of Captain John Allison under the command of Colonel John
Bowman, County of Kentucky County Virginia, also serving in the company were Samuel
Teater, Joseph Wray, Ambrose Ross, Thomas Dooley, early Garrard Countains.
Others include John Kelly, Charles Teater, Samuel Dunn, John Adams, John Willis, also
possibly connect to early Garrard. July 20 to August 21,1780 Captain Brisco's company as
part of an expedition across the Ohio against the Shawnee Indians. March 25th to June 1781
on duty guarding Bryant's Station following the attack there on March 25th when 12 men
were killed.
July 1782 member of the detachment of Horse Man Rangers under Lt. Thomas Stevenson,
killed, served with Samuel Boone.
They ranged the frontier from Big Boone Lick to the Licking River by horseback for a period
of 30 days, a very dangerous assignment. It is shown by the Veterans Administration,
Washington , D.C., that Timothy Logan was born in Surry County, North Carolina.
He came to Kentucky before 1780. While residing in Garrard County, he enlisted at
Kennedy's Station in 1780,and served as an Indian Spy in Captain John Kennedy's
Company until August 1,1781, when he went under the same Captain in General Benjamin
Logan and Colonel George Roger's Clark's Expedition, and was in the battle at Pickway
Towns and served at Bryant's Station until peace was declared in 1783.
He was allowed a pension on his own application executed September 17,1835.
He was residing in Garrard County, Kentucky at the time. Pension Claim W.3700.
He died March 2,1848.
Timothy Logan came from North Carolina in the early settlement of Kentucky about 1778,
was a great Indian fighter, and caused many foe to bite the dust in his encounters with the
Savages. He was a farmer in the northeast part of Garrard County, was the only member of
his branch of the family who came to Kentucky and died at the age of 96. Most traditions
states that Timothy Logan came to Kentucky in the Fall of 1775 when Daniel Boone brought
his family to Boonesbrough. He had ran away from a step-mother he didn't like and moved
in with them while Daniel Boone was in Kentucky.
Tradition has it that Timothy was one of the bachelors who guarded the families on the trip
into Kentucky.
