Hi,

I am interested in hearing from anyone with HALLIDAYs from Lochrutton or Urr in Kirkcudbrightshire or Cardenden or Auchterderran in Fife. Other areas in Kirkcudbrightshire that my Hallidays may have came from are Troqueer and New Abbey. The Kirkcudbrightshire Hallidays were farmers, and the Cardenden/Auchterderran Hallidays were a branch of the Hallidays from Lochrutton - some of them became coal miners.

The earliest Hallidays I have are ROBERT (b.1777) and SARAH HALLIDAY (b.1781). Popular names amongst my Hallidays (and probably every other family on the planet!) are ROBERT, JOHN, JAMES, WILLIAM, GEORGE, SARAH, JANE, JANET, JESSIE, ELISABETH and MARY.

Other surnames married to my HALLIDAYS are ANDERSON, FARISH, BLACK, RICHARDSON, WILSON, KERR, LAURIE, SHARPE, CARSON, McCAIG, CHAPPEL, GILLIES, KEIR, HAUGH AND JAMIESON - there is also a McCRAE that I know is connected, but am not sure how yet.

Some names of the farms that various Hallidays and their spouses came from are: Slacks, Bogrie, Mosside, Whiteyard, Under The Brae, Barfil, Little MIlton, Fell, Meikle Kirkland, Durhamhill, Gatehouse, Dinnance, Senwick, Moat - there are probably many others that I can't think of offhand.

I would really like to hear from anyone who is interested......I only started my family research a few months ago, and I have alot of information, but have many branchs unexplored - I have 58 Hallidays (and their spouses/families) in my tree, and growing, and am most interested in finding out more about the Hallidays in particular, but also any of the other names connected to my Hallidays.

I've never posted to this forum before, so I apologise if my post isn't keeping within the rules! I am more than happy to share any information I have - if anyone would like to know more, just let me know.

Regards,
Elaine HALLIDAY

Hi John,

I look forward to your email. I believe that you are the same John that replied to a thread my sister posted years ago http://genforum.genealogy.com/halliday/messages/226.html .

All we knew then was information passed on from our relatives, and information from various gravestones - the last few months I have been researching it a bit more thoroughly....like I said - I look forard to hearing from you!

Regards,
Elaine Halliday

Hi Elaine, Do you have a John Halliday who married Margaret McQuaker in your tree? I have no birthdate for John, but Margaret was born circa 1796. She appears in the 1841 census in Creetown (Kirkmabreck), with presumed daughters, Jane and Margaret, both born circa 1821 and a 3 year old John McKeand which I believe is her grandson and my husband's gr.grandfather. I believe McKeand is a misspelling on the census enumerator's part as John eventually spells his name Kain. John and Margaret (McQuaker) Halliday were the parents (according to the IGI) of Elizabeth Halliday (b. 1815) who married John Cain (Kain) in 1838 in Whitehaven, England. Thanks, Conni

Hi Conni,

I'm afraid I don't have anyone who has the surnames McQuaker, McKeand or Cain/Kain in my Halliday tree. Are any of your other Hallidays from the Kirkcudbrightshire area? I would be interested to compare their names to the Hallidays in my tree, to see if I can match any up.

Regards,
Elaine

Hi Jayne,

I have sent you an email, and I would really like to hear back from you. My Hallidays have been in the Urr area since 1875, and possibly earlier - and some are still there now. I also have Hallidays born in Troqueer in the 1700s. Would be interesting to see if our Hallidays are connected. I have another Halliday family connected to mine (but not related, as far as I know) who are also from Urr.

Regards,
Elaine Halliday
