Researching descendants and ancestors of the
above. Benson appears to have previously been owned by Richard and Elizabeth Hallums in the
years immediately preceding the Civil War in
Pickens County, S.C. Mary Ann used the surname "Boren" before Hallums. She was free
as early as 1850 and appears on 1850 1860 Census, along with several of her children.
