David Halsey Wolfe (Morris Co., NJ)

Looking for background on the name HALSEY relative to David Halsey Wolfe (b. Aug. 1832, parents Jacob Wolfe & Esther Sharp. Married Caroline Elizabeth Dufford 12 Dec. 1863; sons John and Jacob H. Wolfe) He is in 1870 & 1880 census in Morris Co., NJ. I presume Halsey is a surname somewhere in his ancestry, but have no proof of this.

Thanks,

Joe

For me, I can't get past James, and other family members have tried as well. If you get any new info please let me know and I will do the same.

Thanks bro

Troy

Amber,

My grandmother's maiden name was Halsey, and I have been able to compile a great deal of information about the history of her family, and some details about her family, itself.

Start with your father's father's name, exactly where and when he was born, who his father was, exactly where and when he was born, and go as far back as you can. Also get the names of your uncles and aunts Halsey and so on.

I have a database that might be able to locate your family in a very long line of Halseys from this information - or not, I don't yet know.

Keep in touch at battiste@sasktel.net

Art

William John Henry HALSEY married Charlotte Jordan STIMSON/STIMPSON

Thanks to the help of a kind 'listener' I have been able to ascertain that the above couple married in Pancras reg dist in 1867. Their son William John Henry Halsey was born in March 1870, and Charlotte, son William J.H. Halsey (1 yr) and Charlotte's young sister (Sarah Stinson, 13) were living in Hammersmith, London at time of the 1871 census. Husband William was not with them at this time, however, I believe William and Charlotte, along with young son William emigrated to NZ between 1871-1874. I'm hoping that I can connect with someone else reseaching the Halsey or Stimson/Stimpson lines. I can provide more info on this couple (from NZ onwards), but would like to track down William and Charlotte's parents.

Halsey/Helsey from Indiana and Ohio

I am looking for anyone who is related to, or a desendant of Ambra Halsey Hurt from Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born on June 17, 1890/1892 in Ohio. When Ambra was about a year old she was taken in by Cassie Pitts Davis (later Norton after the death of her first husband Jacob Davis). Ambra and her husband Lewis were missionaries in Africa and lived there most of the time after their marriage. Ambra returned to Africa after his death in 1948; Ambra died in 1972 in DC.
Ambra spelled her last name HALSEY while her sister Lula (who I am a desendant of) spelled her name HELSEY; which was the way her mother (Rosa Dixon) spelled it before her second marriage.
Ambra had two daughter, Lois and Virginia. If anyone has any information regarding them or anyone I have mentioned PLEASE contact me. If I am correct Lois died in 1985 but I don't know anything about Virginia; or if either one of them had any desendants.
Ambra met her older sister Lula once, as far as we know, after they were seperated when little. We have a copy of a letter Ambra wrote Lula after she found her in 1912, when Lula was living in Missouri. Ambra mentioned in the letter she was going to write Nevada, Wyandot Co., Ohio, where their father had last been heard of, but as this is the only letter of Ambra's we have a copy of we don't know if she found her father or any of her mother's family except an uncle, (Frank E. Dixon).
Thanks in advance!

William Muir Halsey, Lydia and Harriet Halsey

Hi,

I am looking for descendants of William Muir Halsey, grandson of Lydia Halsey of Chicago, Illinois. I recently obtained records from Green-Wood Cemetery of New York and have found a Matilda Jane Redmon Halsey and Harriet Halsey included in plot where siblings (Mary Jane, Harriet, Sarah E., Emily & Ann Eliza) of my gg-greatgrandmother Alice Hall Mulgrew are buried. There was a note on the records that Lydia Halsey who died April 16, 1915 and buried in Waldheim Cemetery, Chicago granted inalienable rights to burial plot to her grandson William Muir Halsey on May 5, 1902. Would like to find out how Halsey and Hall are related.
Also in burial plot there is a Frances Hall who died in West Farms, Westchester Co., New York. Found a James, Margaret and William Hall there in the 1850 census. Does anyone know if there is a relationship?

Jill,
What a mix you have! See the response to Tanya's posting. I will also invite you to visit my Halsey tree. Interestingly enough my husband's mother's Halsey line has Wilson's and his fathers line has Rose's. We could cross several times. I will also look for your names. I know I have seen Evoline and David Rose somewhere. Was Evoline's fathe Amos Halsey married to Elizabeth Howell? There is an Ancestry World Tree project that has alot on the Rose family. Could your David Rose be David Bowen Rose b.22 Apr 1856, died 14 Feb. 1931, married Mary Catherine Whisman?

My husbands family is from the Wolfe County Halsey's on both his mother and fathers side. I will keep your names in mind. Ky has fairly extensive marriage list, death notices and other information. Most all of the Halsey's are buried in the Catron Cemetery in Pomeroyton, Ky. Sometimes the cemetery lists are posted. Census records are helpful. The Halsey line has been traced by others back to John Halsey alias Chambers born ca 1498 in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, England. There are still Halsey's living there. The only trick is to find out which is the correct line to him. Most all of the men were named William, James, John and Thomas. In the U.S. they began in Southampton, Sulfolk Co. New York. The original Halsey homestead is also there. There are also many old wills and interesting stuff posted. I have a good deal of our tree "The Halsey Family" on ancestry.com. Send me your email address and I'll invite you to look at it.

Wes, I would love the full information on James Jefferson "Jeffery" Halsey. His Brother was my husband's Great Great Grandfather's brother. I have THAT line along with the ancestors. Have pictures of My husband's Great Great Grandfather, James Clinton Halsey and his wife, Martha Jane Warden Halsey. They migrated to Missouri and their children raised their families here. I had contact with a descendant of William P. Halsey's daughter, Fannie, several years ago and have a picture of she and her husband, Fallie Reaves. I believe they went to Arkansas, also. Please E-mail me.

Marvin died just before his 2nd birthday and is buried in the Mt Zion Cemetary near Batesville AR alongside Lillie Pearl, T.E and Lucinda (Lue Cindy) Brickell.,My grandmother Velma Pearl said Lue Cindy died at the age of 14 of Dropsy. She remembers seeing her in the hospital with her head all wrapped up. Velma said Lue Cindy had always been the one who took care of her and put her to bed, bathed etc. and after she died, Velma would not let anyone else put her to bed. (just a side note). Don't want to get carried away and bore you but let me know specifically what your interested in and I can email it.

Velma other daughter,(and my aunt) is named Phyliss and she lives in Colorado.

Let me take a wild shot in the dark here. You wouldn't happen to have any info on the father of the Joseph Brickell who moved from NC to AR in about 1858 (Wife Rose Ann). if I connect that link then I've got the line back to Ireland.

Hope I've provided something that helps. Let me know

Thanks. Never too late. I've been researching some other lines the last several years so its refreshing to get some info on The Halsey's. My grandmother Velma Pearl (Brickell)Covington passed away this year at the age of 88. She was the daughter of Lillie Pearl Halsey and T. E Brickell. She married James Albert Covington and they lived in Jonesboro Arkansas for many years. Their daughter Linda is my mother. If you ever need any information on any related lines, just let me know.

Thanks again!

Wes

Elizabeth Howell was Emeline or Evoline's Mother. However David Bowen Rose was born March 20,1785 and died November 7 , 1871 in Wolfe Cty, Ky. David Rose had a son named David Bowen and one named Bowen David. By the date I would say your David Bowen was probably a grandson of mine. Jill

She was born in Va and had a brother named James also born in Va about 1861. Also sister Mary Ann and Susan (married to Curly Bob Rose) and another brother, william. Father died in Va and Mother married David Rose about 1870. Does this sound like anyone in your family? Jill Russell Martinelli
