After many years of research I have stalled at my Great Great Grandfather, Walter Scott HALVERSON. The first reference I have found is when he married my G.G.Grandmother, Charlotte Rains , in Seale, Kent, UK in Sep 1861. It appears to have been somewhat of a 'rushed' marraige' since their eldest child, Henry, was born seven months later. Their marraige certificate indicates that Walter was born about 1830 but I can find no information on where or what he was doing in Kent.

The next reference to the couple is north of the Thames in Poplar where the first child was born. They lived in a variety of places in North London during the next nine years and had a further three children, one of whom died young.

Walter died by drowning in the River Lea at Hackney in Jul 1870. It was the subject of a coroner's investigation but no coroner's report seems to have survived.

With his first documeneted appearance being late 1861 and his last being mid 1870 he managed to 'avoid' both the '61 and '71 census.

If anybody has any information about Walter Scott HALVERSON prior to September 1861 I would be mosy grateful.
