Hello Hamann family researchers -
I just searched through 162 postings on this Hamann
Rootsweb Message Board and was unable to find one
single clue or lead to the Hessian soldiers named
HAMANN, who served during the American Revolution in
Canada and the U.S.A. There were several who either
remained in Canada and down south, and one who did
come back on his own after he deserted in 1784 in
Germany.
These Hamann's all served with the Hessen-Hanau troops:
Hamann, Jacob, 1752/53 born in Langstadt/Hessen
Hamann, Johann Georg, 1760/61, died 1782 in New York,
Hamann, Konrad, 1754/55 Langstadt, in Canada,
Hamann, Nikolaus, 1751/52 Dudenhofen, came back 1784.
Hamann, Peter, 1752/53, Langstadt, deserted 1781 U.S.A.
The history of Nikolaus is well known in Quebec, Canada,
many descendants have researched and have complete
details back to his parents in Dudenhofen near Hanau.
Konrad is believed to have deserted in the U.S.A. and made
his way back to Canada where he settled. Research is
still going on. However, Jakob and Peter are still missing,
and if anyone has any idea where they remained, should
get his typing fingers going and let us know.
That's what this Board and this mailing list is for, to help
solve the mysteries and to help find the missing.
With my best regards,
John Helmut Merz,
