I am a Hamblen DAR member but thru John Hamblen and his son Hezekiah and his son Henry and his daughter Jerusha (Hamblen) SHEPHERD was my great grandmother. It has been a long time since I have looked through the family papers and I know I don't have a Hamblen Bible. Is there anything else that would help you?

Kay

Laurie, I live in the DFW area and am needing source copies for Daniel Hamblen (1752-1802)for my DAR application. I have a "record copy" of another relative's application and she makes reference to the "Daniel Hamblen Bible" as her source for the dates of Mary "Polly" Hamblen and Daniel Hamblen.

Do you know where I can get copies of it?

Thanks...Valerie
email: laskowv@att.net

Perhaps I have answered this, or perhaps not, but please accept my apologies if not...

Sara Hamblen did indeed marry Shilo Glasscock. I have not done much research on that line, but will get on it...
Laura

Catherine Cassie Hamblin d/o Benjamin Hamblin Sr.

I am looking for information regarding the death and burial location of Catherine Veach (Hamblin)

Catherine "Cassie" Hamblin was born in 1804 in either South or North Carolina. (I have seen both recorded for her). Cassie married Amos Veach, born 1807 in South Carolina, in the 1830's. Amos Veach died in 1865 in Whitley County, KY.

Amos and Cassie had 11 children.

The last record I can find is in the 1880 US Federal Census Cassie was living in District 113 Whitley County, KY with her son Daniel Veach.

Brandy - I'm so happy to receive your email regarding Benj Hamblin Jr. I believe I am related to Benj Hamblin Sr. through his son, Daniel. I am looking for more informaton on Benj Sr. There are many missing years in his life. B. 1759 MD through approx 1808. Family tradition says he was a sailor so I am looking for proof of that. I don't have anything on Benj Jr. but some on Benj Sr. I have never heard of Casey Stormsworth so this is worth checking out.
Please contact me via dfitzwater@cox.net
Thanks, Barbara Fitzwater

John Draper b Abt 1786 NC or TN

Here is some of my leftover DRAPER research to ponder, pursue, or discard. I collected it while researching my target – ROBERT DRAPER. (See far below.)

!1850 Census of Tennessee, Hawkins County, District 14, page 422, stop 99:
DRAPER, John, 64 (1786), TN, farmer.
DRAPER, Zilpha 52 (1798), TN.
DRAPER, Clairborne, 25 (1825), TN.
DRAPER, Baden, 19 (1831), TN.
DRAPER, Anna, 22 (1828), TN.
DRAPER, Susan, 14 (1836), TN.
DRAPER, Eliza, 12 (1838), TN.
DRAPER, Lucinda, 12 (1838), TN.

!1860 Census of Tennessee, Hawkins County, District 1 – St. Clair PO, page 86, stop 567 and 568:
DRAPER, Clairborne, 35 (1825), TN, farm laborer.
DRAPER, Anna, 27 (1833), TN.
DRAPER, Susan, 26 (1834), TN.
DRAPER, Eliza, 22 (1838), TN.
DRAPER, Lucinda, 20 (1840), TN.
DRAPER, Zilpha, 63 (1797, TN.
Stop 568:
DRAPER, Baden, 24 (1836), TN.
DRAPER, Martha, 24 (1836), TN.
DRAPER, William, 8 (1852), TN.
DRAPER, Robert, 4 (1856), TN.
DRAPER, Lucy, 2 (1858), TN.
DRAPER, Sallie, infant of 11 months (1859), TN.

!1870 Census of Tennessee, Hawkins County, District 1 – Whitesburg, page 3 (stamped 2), stop 20:
HAMBLEN, Leonidas, 31 (1839), TN.
HAMBLEN, Eliza, 30, (1840), TN.
HAMBLEN, William, 6 (1864), TN.
HAMBLEN, Robert, 3 (1867), TN.
HAMBLEN, Thomas, 1 (1869), TN.
DRAPER, Elizabeth, 80, (1790), TN.

!1880 Census of Tennessee, Hawkins County, District 1, page 36 (stamped 179), stop 174:
DRAPER, Zelpha, head, 83 (1797), TN – NC – NC.
DRAPER, Malissa, daughter, 49 (1831), TN – NC – TN.

I believe SUSAN DRAPER b. Abt. 1836 above is the first wife of LEONIDAS HAMBLEN. (Leonidas is the son of CAPT HENRY HAMBLEN 1807 – 1864.) Susan and Leonidas probably married about 1862 in Hawkins County, TN. And ELIZABETH J. “ELIZA” DRAPER b. Abt. 1838 above is the second wife of Leonidas Hamblen. Hawkins County records say Eliza Draper and Leonidas Hamblen married 30 Jan 1866. Look at the 1870 Census record above at the family of Leonidas Hamblen and you’ll find Elizabeth Draper’s mother, ELIZABETH “ZILPHA” DRAPER living with them. I believe her age was incorrectly recorded by the census taker. It should be 73 (in 1870).

The target of my research is this Robert Draper:

1. ROBERT DRAPER was born Nov 1855 in Tennessee. He married MARTHA DRAPER 1891 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, daughter of THOMAS DRAPER and HIDASSA ? ?. She was born Abt. 1872 in Kentucky.

SPECULATION BY BARRY ASHBY: Robert Draper b. Nov 1855 TN MIGHT be the son of BADEN DRAPER b.Abt. 1836 and MARTHA LNU b. Abt. 1836 TN. Baden, Martha and their son, Robert Draper, are listed together in the 1860 Census of Tennessee, Hawkins County, District 1 - St. Clair PO, page 86, stop 568. Furthermore, Baden Draper is the son of JOHN DRAPER b. Abt. 1786 TN/NC and ELIZABETH "ZELPHA" LNU b. Abt. 1797 TN. John, Zelpha and their son, Baden Draper, are listed together in the 1850 Census of Tennessee, Hawkins County, District 14, page 422, stop 99. END OF SPECULATION

Children of ROBERT DRAPER and MARTHA DRAPER are:
i. GUY DRAPER, b. Aug 1892, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.
ii. GEORGIA DRAPER, b. Sep 1894, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.
iii. CLYDE DRAPER, b. May 1896, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.
iv. MINNIE L. DRAPER, b. Jun 1898, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.
v. EVA DRAPER, b. Oct 1899, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.
vi. DICIE DRAPER, b. 1903, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.
vii. THOMAS T. DRAPER, b. 1904, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.
viii. MATTIE DRAPER, b. 1908, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.

Barry Ashby

I am in search of my great grandmother, Kate Ann Hamblen stipe dob 11/16/1883 and died in Canton Ohio and buried in Stipe Cemetary 11-22-1973. She married Joseph Thom Stipe dob 1857 dod 1921. She stated her father is Daniel Hamblen and her mother was Cindy Herron Reuben (not sure she married Daniel). We have a tin type picture of the slave that took care of her as a child. The slaves name was sarah (i believe) she also is buried in the stipe cemetary in Rogersville. She had a brother John F. Montgomery, I believe he was the police chief in Knoxville (which she was very proud of). She also worked in the school in Pressman in the kitchen. I believe. I knew her very well and was 13 when she passed on Thanksgiving day 1973. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The Spittlers, Hamblens, Bowdens and Hickeys must have been close families. It seems like they all intermarried.

I unfortunatly lost all my Hamblen information when my computer crashed a couple of years ago. :( and since they were a colateral line, I didn't continue my research.

I do wish you luck in yours, fyi, Hamblen is a well known name in Eastern Washington.

It is a slow process but growing each day. Be glad to add your information as well.

Seeking Hamblen/Hamblin ancestors

Hi, all. I am searching for information on my grandfather, Tilson J. Hamblen (Hamblin, etc.) He was born in 1869 in GA., and married my grandmother, Vergie King in 1909. She was his second wife. Later, after they divorced, he married Lucy Thompson, and they settled in Covington, KY, and lived there for the rest of his life. Grandad died on 3/24/1947 in Covington. Other names (his children) I know of are: Odell, Charles, Lester, Louis, Blondie (spelling?), Clyde. Then the children from his marriage to Vergie (Virginia Leanne King-my grandmother) are John T., Lucille Rosebud, Alma Ruth, Justin Orpheus, and Walter Greer Hamblin. If anything rings a bell, please answer via this forum. Thanks so much!
Cheryl

Virginia Hamlin/Hamblyn/Hamlen Family - Unite Two Lines

I am seeking to discover the parents of Stephen H. Hamlin b. 1756 in Amelia (who provided food for Virginia's Revolutionary War army) and any siblings he may have had. I possess two Virginia Hamlin family charts, one 1665-1725 and the other 1759-present. The "Stephen H. Hamlin Link" would successfully unite these two large family lines . . . I believe for the first time ever. And, would fill-in the 35-year gap created with the loss of marriage, death and land records during the Civil War with the sacking of Richmond and Petersburg, VA.

It's only 1,400 pages =). Your father was quite the imposing young man! Did you grow up to be a priest too?
>On page 32 in the book The Hamlins of New >England by Simon M. Hamlin(Tuttle Antiquarian >Books does photocopies available thru Barnes >& Noble--I just purchased mine this year so >>it should still be available...I think about >$25)there is a reference to Lydia Hamlin born >1724, daughter of Benjamin Hamlin (b. 1692), >first son of Eleazer (b. 1668) who was first >son of James Hamlin (b. 1636) who is son of >>James and Anna Hamlin of London and >Barnstable. Lydia is a name that is common in >the Hamlin line, but you might want to >investigate the line I mentioned as the time >frame fits.

According to The Hamlin Family a genealogy of James Hamlin of Barnstable Mass [99] Lydia Hamblin dau. of Benjamin married John Willcut with no mention of children.

BTW I'm currently scanning that book (1411 pages!)and am including it with The Hamblen And Allied Families on CD-ROM. griffon@ccrtc.com I've only got the first 101 pages done.
