My GGrandfather left Hamburg to settle in Guyana c. 1850.
He was a watchmaker and optician and ran a business with a man named Gomes in Georgetown, Guyana.

His name was Joachim August Schuler and his father was Heinrich Ludolph Schuler from Hamburg. His mother was Lucia Elizabeth Holtzhausen from Verden.

Does anyone have any further information on these names?

I don't know if you are still using this site, but my greatgrandfather's name was Henry aka Heinrich, he settled in Nebraska. His youngest son Victor moved out to Stockton, California. He had two boys, Marvin and Roy.

Nurse family in Hamburg

My branch of the Nurse family was from Wales, but I'm looking for a German branch, which my grandmother Eleanor Nurse 1886 used to talk about. I'm wondering whether Hattie Nurse, wife of August Feldkamp and mother of Donald Feldkamp, could have been part of it. She probably married August Heinrich Feldkamp in the USA, since he was born in Manchester, Michigan. As far as I know, Hattie (Henrietta) was born 7 Oct 1893 in Hamburg, Germany and died 22 March 1982 in Clinton, Michigan. She was the daughter of George Sherwood Nurse and of Anna ----, but I have no idea where George was from.
I would be grateful to anyone who could find Henrietta's birth certificate, and the marriage certificate of her parents.

hello is there someone who could possibly look up the ubove to see if the following names are listed. i am trying to find out when and where they left and arrived. the only other info i have is the lived in northumberland morpeth uk and then glasgow garnhill, bellshill county of lanark (lanarkshire scotland..;
vitorrija and albert retkevycus dob unknown abt 1830ish?
albert was a coal miner and they both changed thier name to miller. victoria was formally; terusevycus?
when she died in 1942 27th april she was 52 yrs old. they had a son called joseph.

Henry is listed in the 1880 city directory of Hamburg/Altona. Sometime during that year, he married Dorothea Shultz. In July of 1891, their first child, Katherine Julia was born. Cah anyone give me any further information on this family?

Mom's brother was Fred Hamburg. My Grandfather was also named Fred or Fritz, who married Verna. I know this isn't much to start with but I'm learning.

I do too. If you are the same Albert von Borstel, you tried contacting my grandfather a couple of years ago, and we found no connection. I haven't found any new information since then, but maybe you have.

Gieselmann from Hamburg area 1835-1855

Several Gieselmann families emigrated to USA middle 1835-1855 . Henry wife Minnie and son Wilhelm Fredrich.
In 1856 Wlihelm Fredrich married in Evansville, Indiana.
It seems not all theGieselman families settled in the same aera. Wilhelm is my 3 gr-grandfather. I relly want to find his village of birth.

Joseph, Roy Hamburg

I have Roy S. Hamburg (b. IA 1890) and Alanson Hamburg (b. OK 1901) sons of Joseph C. Hamburg (b. OH 1859). This comes from the 1910 Clark Township, OK Census.

I'm primarily interested in Joseph's wife Girtrude (b. IL 1866) - I think she is the daughter of Alanson Jones and Charlotte Wilcoxon. I'm told Girtrude and Joseph moved from Iowa to Oklahoma around 1895 and then Alanson and Charlotte followed them around 1900.

If this is the same family as yours, I'd appreciate any additional information about Joseph or Girtrude.

Our common ancestor is Gertrude's father, Alanson Jones. He and Charlotte Wilcoxon had 7 children in the 1870 Eden, IL Census: Francis M., Charles F., Eber Otho, Laura E., Sylvia G. (Gertrude?), Wilbur and Mary A. My grandmother mentioned they had another named Ruth.

I'm related to the 3rd son, Eber Otho Jones. He married Maria Louisa Schmidt in 1882 and lived in IL until 1888 when he moved to IA. After Alanson and Gertrude moved to OK, he moved to Decatur, IL. He and Maria Louisa are buried in Clinton, IL.

My Grandmother, Eber's granddaughter, remembers her mother, Lottie, talking about Alanson's farm near Macedonia, IA. She also heard that one of Gertrude's children was an all-state athlete in OK.

I'd love any pictures of J.C. and Gertrude you have; my grandmother's house in IL burned a while back and much was lost. I have an obituary of Eber Otho from 1928 that mentions his sister Mrs. J. C. Hamburg of Thomas OK if you'd like a copy.

Thanks for all of the great information you've provided. I'm also trying to gather more information about Gertrude's parents. Do you have any information about them?

I've just received a copy of Alanson and Roy's Social Security applications from the social security administration. The curious part is that Alanson's application has Roy's name on it and Alanson's birthplace. Evidently the name was corrected later, since the number brings up the correct name on the social security death index.

I also received a copy or Gertrude's death record from Oregon. If you's like copies of these documents I can email (or mail) them to you.

I can't thank you enough for the information about Herman Ritzman that you posted in June of 2003 on RootsWeb. Our family and many other distant cousins have searched for Herman's elusive roots for years without any luck. My great-grandmother, Jennie Richman Brooks, is a descendant of this man, and even the most proficient 19th century genealogists in her family couldn't find his country of origin, original surname, or Maria Elizabeth's maiden name. I was able to find both of these recently the Dutch Reformed Records, but that was after a ten year search. I know that he owned quite a bit of land in Lancaster, PA before moving to Upper Pittsgrove Township, NJ where his sons', Jacob (my ancestor) and Michael, homes still stand to this day (they're approx. a mile and a half apart in distance). I also have copies of the records (transcribed) of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Swedesboro, NJ which record some of the children's baptisms if you would like them. I know that Maria or Mary Elizabeth Richman is buried in the old graveyard in the Presbyterian Church at Daretown, NJ.

I plan to share the infomation that you posted with my ninety-five year old great-aunt. Until very recently, she had no idea the surname used to be "Ritzman" or possibly "Ritzema." Any information that I happen to come across I will be happy to share with you. Best regards, Walt Williams

I am no longer researching this family. I discovered I was looking for a Hamburger instead of a Hamburg. Eastern Washington is rich with German Russians (or is it Russian Germans). If you go to the Walla Walla message board, there is posting by me that gives one of the boy's obituary. Maybe that can lead you to a living descendant who might have some information on the Conrad Hamburg family.

My great grandmother, Anna Hamburg Weber, came from the Saratov area of Russia to Washington state. She was married to Christian Weber, and they came to the U.S. in 1902. They settled briefly in Ritzville before homesteading in Quincy, Washington. I don't know if this is the same family, but it seems possible.

Harmannus Ritzman, Hamburg area, circa 1708

I am seeking information about my ancestor, known in this country as Harman Ritzman (later Richman) thought to have come with early Palatine migration to New York. He married French Huguenot woman in 1712 in NYC and moved shortly to New Jersey.
His nephew, Ulrich Otto, posted a message in a German language newspaper, looking for him in PA some years later. Nephew said he was from Am Dester (Sester) Deich, then about 4 miles from Hamburg. Harman Ritzman first went to Russia to set up a factory for Peter the Great before coming to New York.
His sons were: Jacob, John, Ulrich (Oeldrich) and Michael. He was supposedly born in 1686 and died, leaving a will, in 1744. It is possible that he was of earlier Dutch or Scandinavian ancestry and may also have been known by a patronymic.

Looking for info on a Hamburg family that immigrated to the US from Ceratof, Russia @1900 and settled in Walla Walla, WA by 1902.

They were listed on the 1920 Walla Walla census under what I assume is a misspelling of their last name (Hamberg). (In their son John's 1981 obituary it is spelled Hamburg.)

the only info I have on Ethel is that she married my grandfather John I. Porter after he divorced this 1st wife Olive Phillips. They lived in Youngstown, Mahoning Co, Ohio for as long as I ca remember. She worked for the AAA Auto Club for 40 or more years. I remember hearing that she had a daughter but I never heard her name or knew if she had other children.The last time I had seen her she was in a nursing home in Boardman, Ohio. That was in 1989. Sorry I have nothing esle on her. I would like to thak you for your time and reply.

Otto BAYERL born 1885 Prunn, Oberpfalz, Bavaria, died 1962 Hamburg Litte Nr. he was an upholsterer and lived his life in Hamburg. He married and had 2 daughters circa 1901 and 1903. His first wife died and the daughters lived with their mothers family. He later remarried but all contact was lost when his brother Anton BAYERL aka Karl STERN died in Vancouver Canada in 1953.

Jacob Gustav Gallois - Hamburg

Jacob Gustav Gallois married Emilie Rodatz in Hamburg. They had 13 children. 4 of those children were boys, Gustav born 1814, Emil b: 1822, Adolf b: 1822 (busy year that one) and William b: 1830.
William is my Great Great Grandfather.
I am trying to find out when Jacob (who was French - possibly Jersey) came to Hamburg and if there are any descendants of the other 3 boys who may be able to help me.
Long shot but worth a try.
I believe Emil went to the US and I know Charles came here to Australia.

Hello; I am just start a search for relatives from my father's side of the family. My parents divorced when I was a very young child so I really don't know much information other than my father's name was Lavando David Hamburg, Jr., from Chicago. Since his father's name was Lavando David Hamburg, I am wondering whether or not he was a child of Frank Hamburg and Mary Moeller. Yes Ronald she is in the 1920 census under Braundorf NY.>and she is in the 1930 under Knosp NJ. what I am looking for is to find out what her parents names were ? Frieda Rundt is my grandmother her parents would be my great grandfather and grandmother.

Can any one help? I've been looking up my Hamburg Ancestors for some time but to no avail. Namely my Ex Wifes Grt,Grt, Grandfather, a naturalised British Subject from Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. She has hit a massive brick wall. ( To make it more difficult ) They were Jewish. - Not because of their Faith/ Origin,) but it means they were not on the records as i believe Quakers were exempt too.
Anyway Joseph hamburg married sophia sworrp, Josephs father was levy, so dutch records are also hard to deal with.
Joseph & Sophia were marrid in the Grand Synagogue of London, in 1864.In the Parish of st. James, Whitechappel.
In the couty of LONDON. Joseph aged 21, & Sophia Sworrp aged 19.
Joseph was a dealer in jewllery.
Fathers were LEVY HAMBURG.(Deceased)
& ELIAH SWORRP. (DEALER)
Thet were living in 6 Windsor Sq?

(they were both on the 1881 British census, but cannot get any futher, i've tried some jewish records , but nothing yet!
