Ok, this is difficult. If this is the Diane Hamby from Travis Highschool, class of 70, then I DO remember her! We were friends in our Junior year, and were in quite a few classes together. I had a terrible crush on her, and we had some "cute" times together while rehearsing for one play in drama.

I had heard she died in Las Vegas at around that date but the details were never clear. franz dot hofmann at gmail dot com.

No, I haven't been able to visit the cemtery, but one of the nice ladies associated with Sutton county was good enough to send me photos and obituaries, etc. I live in Arizona, so that is a bit far for me to travel. I thank you for your reply.
I would love to see your tree if it is online.....I wouldn't mind filling in some of this family line if you don't mind helping me out with it. My line is from Priscilla Clifton Hamby......

Have you had the time to make the trip to the cemetery in Sonora, TX and photo the stones? It is a very nice one with lots of oak trees, etc. There are Hamby stones are in two different spots.

Lillian (Ramsel) Hamby was my great aunt. I spent lots time with her as she and my grandmother Adele Ramsel Evans shared an apt. together in San Angelo before Lillian past away. I do not know much about Mr. Hamby as he had already past away before I was old enough to know.
I have a couple on the pictures of stone on my tree.

Hamby family Y-chromosome DNA project

Hello!

I have established a Hamby/Hanby family Y-chromosome DNA project at FamilyTreeDNA. We have two members so far, and I invite all male Hambys to join. The project has several purposes, among them to help Hambys in their research when the paper trail has gone cold. I'd also like to work out the different lineages of Hambys in the Carolinas and beyond. The site below has all the information including pricing for the tests and such. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Hamby%2fH...

Thanks,

Grant Hamby

Don't have much information on Andrew Hamby, son of Lankingston and Nancy (Foster) Hamby. Andrew with Lawson and Nancy on the 1860 Roler Ridge, Benton Co., AR. census as b. 1855 in NC. (age 5 on census) This Andrew also had a brother named Ruben on the 1850 census, and it is assumed that he died because he was not on the 1860 census with his family.
Nancy

You know, I might know the person you are looking for. My great-grandfather was Corda J. Hamby. But we did not call him Jackson, we called him Jack. (Jackson could be his name but we only knew of him as Jack). Everyone in town called him Happy Jack. He died in my grandfather's gas station/resturant on August 26, 1960 in Bradford AR. He is buried in Coffeyville cemetary in Bradford AR. We have his birthdate as December 14, 1884.

My grandfather used to tell me that he never talked about his past and when he would get mad if you asked him. I do beleive we have the same person becasue how many people have you met named Corda??

If you want to talk further, please email me at v8bravada@comcast.net. I would love to know if I have other family out there that we have never met.

Thank you,
Alicia Hamby-Taylor

Hi,
I remember Vester and Virgie Hamby from when I was a child. We lived on Chateau Ave in Price Hill which is a sub of Cincinnati. They were both good friends of my parents Glen and Odessie Collins. This was back in the middle 1960s. My parents are both gone now. I suppose Vergie and Vester are too by now. I have good memories of them. Just thought I would share this with you.

The name of the church that you are thinking about is Siloam Baptist Church which is located in the Powdersville Area of upper Anderson County just off Hwy. 81 and directly on part of the old Hwy 81 next to where Concrete Elementary School is located. The Beeco family is located in the cemetery with the Merritt family. Antwain Beeco married Anna Lonsdale from England. One of their daughter Amelia ( Emelia ) married Joseph Mattison Merrit. Antwain ( Antween) I have seen several spellings and also on Beeco, it is sometimes seen as Beecough. Their sons participated in the civil war from N. C. I believe. I am not looking at my records. The exact dates- I believe that there are not exact dates on the tomb stone- I believe only ages. These can be checked out at the Book of the Dead by Ross M. Smith . It is listed by cemetery on one of the Anderson County forums for genealogy - maybe Genforum or Genweb. Just type in Ross M. Smith's Book of the Dead on a Google Search engine and it should show up. I have some info on the Beeco family if anyone is interested. Please contact me at sswillen @ comcast.net. Thank you.

I have been researching for the past 2 years and it is not easy since, a lot of the Hamby's have the same first name. I believe they must all be related. My mother knows some about her mother's side Lilly Hamby born in 1900 and her grandfather John William Hamby born in SC Jan of 1863. John's father was Stephen Nathan Hamby born abt 1838 in Greenville Austin district. Stephen's father was John Allen Hamby born in 1815 married to a Sara born 1810. I can find Stephen on the SC 1850, SC 1860 and NC 1880 (married to Melinda J) census but, I can not find him anywhere on the 1870 census. There were other Stephens but not my gg-- grandfather. He used the name Nathan sometimes and I have a feeling he was married to someone else around 1861 because, he had a son in 1863 in SC and Melinda looks like she starting having children abt 1876. Thanks for the information. I do have pictures of my great grandfather JW wearing a sheriff's badge.

I would greatly appreciate any information that you have. Stephen Hamby's father was John Allen Hamby born 1815 and I belive that J Allen's father may have been William. But something tells me since J Allen was born in 1815 that William may have had a child that would have been John's father. I would love to know if, Stephen N Hamby which was born abt 1838 had anymore children after 1880 census. I can only find him on the 1850, 1860 and 1880 census. Also, I would like to find out if he was married to someone else in 1870. He was married to a Malinda J on the 1880 census living in Burningtown NC. One of Stephen's sons name was James A Hamby and I found a death certificate showing his mother's name was Cynthia Hamby. However, there was another Stephen R Hamby which also had a son name James. thanks for replying

Help!!!I am looking for information on Stephen Nathan Hamby born abt 1838 in Greenville SC that married Melinda S J Hamby (don't know her maiden name) she was born abt 1842 in South Carolina. Stephen is listed on the 1880 Census in Burningtown, NC. as Nathan Hambie with children, J William(my great grandfather which I have info on), James A, Manda S J, Mary A, Henry M, Thomas J, Louisia L, Robert A, Samuel and Luther H. He was listed on the 1850 and 1860 census as Stephen with his father J A Hamby which was born abt 1815 married to Sarah (don't know her maiden name) but Sarah was born abt 1810. On the 1850 Census J A Hamby (Stephen's father) was listed as Allen Hamby with children, Henry (Hennrietta), James, Stephen, William J, Sarah Jane, Mary A, and Andrew Benjamin. My mother's mother was Lillian Hamby and her father was J W Hamby (Son of Stephen Nathan Hamby) which JW lived in Oconee SC. I am looking for any information on Stephen and Melinda Hamby and their parents, I show Stephen and Melinda's children's names on the 1880 Census but, I can't find them on the 1870 census before moving to NC. It looks like they disappeared. I know he had to be married before 1870 because he had a lot of children born in 1860's. I am not sure if maybe he married one of his brother's wifes or what. He was born in Greenville South Carolina. If anyone has any hint or info, please let me know...thanks and hope to hear from someone.
If anyone has information to share with me, my email is:
Lydiald@windstream.net
