Pierre Hamel & Marguerite Gregoire

MARIE- MARGUERITE GRÉGOIRE was born 06 Aug 1798 in Grondines, Portneuf county, Quebec, daughter of Joseph Gregoire and Marguerite Paquin. She signed a marriage contract with PIERRE HAMEL before the notary Chavigny in Grondines on 8 Feb. 1830. They married the next day,.on 09 Feb. 1830, at St. Charles in Grondines, Portneuf, QC. Present as witnesses were Nicolas Larose and Antoine Arcand for the groom. The record notes that both of her parents were deceased, so her brother Joseph Grégoire stood as witness for her. (Parish records, 1830, marriage #2 - digital image)
PIERRE HAMEL was the son of François Hamel and Catherline Leclerc
In 15 years of searching, I have found NOTHING else! No children, no census, no death or burials or remarriage of one party. They just disappear after the marriage.

Any help appreciated.
Sister Therese Gregoire

Do you read/write Spanish? I have Hamel and Crespo ancestors in my father's family. In 1951 they were living in Los Angeles. I'm working on my family tree and this Hamel-Crespo lines has always being a mistery. I knew Mr.Hope Hamel in 1951 (I was 5 yo...now I'm 64). I have photos. Also from Esperanza Crespo, his wife. I remember his sons John, Peter (by that time at war in Korea), Mercy (with a baby). In the photo I'm in the back. The other boy was Mercy's (Mercede's son), about my age. I have more photos. My name is Juan Antonio Marquez Lacasa. juarkez@hotmail.com The Marquez 2nd. name is connected with Hamel and Crespo. Could we get in touch? Thank You.

Please send me an email to: mynana330@yahoo.com and I will be able to help you with your ancestors. However, I also expect that you will provide me with information on their descendants - names, dates of births, marriages and deaths, places of births, marriages and deaths, names of the spouses, etc. up to the present time. My grandmother was Hamel and I am researching the Hamel family, so have created a database so that I can help other Hamel descendants if they are willing to help me. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Take care, Nancy Auclair, mynana330@yahoo.com

Good Evening: My name is Nancy Auclair and my e-mail address is: mynana330@yahoo.com. I am researching the Hamel family because my grandmother was Hamel. Unfortunately, I cannot help you out at this time with your genealogy, but I would suggest that you try to find your grandfather's birth certificate or death certificate. The death certificate should give you the date and place of his birth and then you can request a copy of the birth certificate from the town or city where he was born. I have tried to do research in NY state, but that is a state that is almost impossible to get information from, especially in the areas of upstate NY. Did you try to find him on the Social Security Index? you can often get information there that will, at least, be a beginning for you. You might also try checking the census for upstate NY (I am not sure what county Plattsburgh and Saranac are in). If you can get to a census center, you can check the censuses yourself. Otherwise, you can get on the Internet and send a request to the census center in Pittsfield, MA and they will look it up for you and send you a copy for a small fee. Good luck, and if you can find the names of his parents, please let me know as I think that I may be able to help you with your ancestors, but we need to find the name of his parents first, so that we can get you back to your ancestors in Canada. Good Luck and keep in touch, Nancy Auclair, mynana330@yahoo.com

Greetings,

Thanks for your message. I have received very few replies as well. The info about this couple was from a Hamel book, but I need to get my hands on it again. I don't believe it gives more than just the names. I am interested to know why Antionette Guilbert has the name Miville associated with her name. One fellow replied that his documentation about her does NOT have the Miville part with it, and also lists her parents/grandparents. There is no Miville association with them as well. Odd, curious, mistake? I'd like to get to the bottom of it someday. Does your new book talk about this couple? Do you have any different information than I've just mentioned?

From Francois and Antoinette, my line descends as follows:

Louis Hamel & Archange Provencher
Noel Hamel & Lumina Bellemare
M.E. Yvonne Hamel & J.
I am trying to trace back the lineage of Sophie Hamel, my great grandmother, who was born about 1835 and married Francois Xavier Derouin (Drouin) abt 1855 and settled afterwards in St. Joseph d'Ely Parish, Valcourt PQ. Can anyone confirm she is the Sophie born to Joseph Hamel & Rose Vien in St. Mathias, Rouville County, PQ? That looks like the probable connection.
Frank Dominic HAMEL b. around 1890 in Clinton County, NY

I am seeking information on my great great grandparents. The surnames are HAINAULT and HAMEL. There were 3 children from the Hainault marriage: Alvina, Aurora and Rose. Their parents were born between 1850 and 1885 because my great grandmother, their child, Alvina Mary Hainault was born May, 1898. Alvina may have been born in Saranac, NY. She lived in New York until her death on Dec 29, 1985 (Social Security Death Index).

In the 1920 Saint Lawrence County, NY census I discovered that Aurora (age 23), her husband Fred Gaynor (age 32) and son, Victor W. Gaynor (age 1) lived with Alvina Hainault (age 21). They lived in the town of Gouvernour and their address was 5 Mill Street. Alvina was an office clerk at the time. The census confirmed that her parents, the HAINAULTS were born in New York.

Alvina's husband, Frank Dominic HAMEL was also possibly born in Saranac, NY. I am unsure of his birth date but I believe he died around 1949.

Alvina Hianault and her husband Alfred Hamel are buried in Redford, NY in Clinton County.

Alvina and Frank had 9 children: Leo Hamel; Veronica Hamel; Galen Hamil; Madelyn L’Heureux (my grandmother); Joyce Williams; Roger Francis; Gail Hamel; Carol Siskavich; Bertha Bennett.

Phonetically, Hianault is actually pronounced [A-Nault] in French and phonetically Hamel is pronounced [A-mel]. I do not know how many generations my family goes back as Americans, but I do know my ancestors in this line are from Canada.

Any idea on the names, birthplaces and any other information on Alvina Mary HAINAULT’s or Frank Dominic HAMEL’s parents would be greatly appreciated.

-Kelly Rock
