Lucretia Hames

During my research I've found that the Hames family has quite a colorful history in California. I'm only related to them through my 3rd great aunt, Drucilla Shadden who married John Hames in 1845-46 im Monterrey, Ca. I'm trying to find where Lucretia E. Hames ties in...b. 1 Aug 1881 in Ca. and died 3 Nov 1965 in Santa Barbara County, Ca. She married someone with the last name of Dana. Her death record lists her as Lucretia E. Dana. I'm wondering if she is related somehow to my 3rd great Aunt.
Thanks.

William W. Hames, b. 1816 Union County SC

I am looking for any information on William W. Hames who was born ca. 1816 in Union County SC. I would also like data on his wife. According to death certificates of his children and to the 1870 and 1880 census, he went by William, William W., and Billy Hames and was married to Mary Reed or Mary Reid. The last reference I have to him is the 1880 census. Mary was living with a daughter in Spartanburg in 1900.

Someone online has listed William's middle name as Wesley, but I have found no verification for this.

Sarah Hames bc. 1809 Union Co. SC

Hi List,

This is my first post to the Hames list. Sarah Hames bc 1809, daft 1860 married William Sprouse, b 1798, d 10 Jul 1881. I believe William is my 2nd great grandfather but have no proof. I found this list of their children on Rootsweb;

Henry Clay, Betsey, Polly, Lydia, Frances, Eliza, Gustyann and Scintha.

It is my belief that the first child of William and Sarah was not Henry but John Sprouse b Aug 1828. I have examined all the Sprouse families listed in the 1840 census for Union Co. and only William had a male child of the correct age to have been my John Sprouse. In 1850 William and Sarah Sprouse's oldest child living at home is listed as Henry, age 19. In 1850
John Sprouse, age 22, was working as a laborer in Union Co. The ages would work out just right.

A posting on the Sprouse Family Genealogy Forum at Genealogy.com by a Tammy Guinn, dated 23 Feb. 2001 said:

"Sarah Hames and William Sprouse are buried at Fosters Chapel Methodist Church in Pea Ridge area in Union County, SC. They had 8 children: John,Henry, Liza, Betsy, Synthis, Lemuel, Nancy and Frances." I sent Tammy an
e-mail but the address was no good.

I believe William Sprouse and Sarah Hames Sprouse are my 2nd great grandparents. John Sprouse is my great grandfather. If anyone has proof or information that John Sprouse is William and Sarah's son, please contact me.

Ray MacMahon

The name of the cemetery is the Glendale Methodist church cemetery. The graves are very old and I could not read a lot of them but their were more Hames stones in there. Where William and his wife were, was fenced and there was another stone that I couldn't read without chalking it in the same fence. I am going back this weekend maybe I can get more information.
I have recently found a graveyard in Spartanburg County, S.C. with William Leander Hames born in 1866 died in 1917. He was maried to Sallie Gilmer b 1868 died in 1928. The only thing I have found that might be him is on the 1870 census in Union Co. his father was Samuel born about 1848 and mother was Mary Jane b 1848. Henry Richardson Hames and wife Sarah was living next door. In the 1880, Mary Jane is remarried to a Holmes and William is listed as a stepson. I think Samuel is H.R.'s son. Does anyone have this line? Thanks Leslie Hames Abernathy

I also have a Mary Malissa Hames, b. abt 1830 D/O of Joshua Hames & unknown wife, who married Francis Page. Are you sure your Mary Malissa married a Frank Page ? If so, could his name have been William Franklin or William Frank Page ? Both of these Mary Malissa's were born in Union Co., SC. I would like very much to hear more information on your line.
