Just began tracing my roots this week. What fun I've had. I'm from Montgomery County, Kentucky (Mt. Sterling) my father is from
Bloomington (near the Licking River)(Morgan County, Ky.). My father was born in 1899 was 50 when I was born. Therefore, all of my cousins were always considerably older than me. Lineage:Connie B. McCorkindale (me), Boyd Brown (father), Minnie Patrick Brown (grandmother), William Patrick/Eleanor Franklin (gr. grandparents), Martin Franklin/Eliza Hamman(gr. gr. grandparents), John Hamman/Margaret Evans (gr.gr.gr. grandparents),Phillip Hamman/Christina Cook (gr gr gr gr grandparents), Valentine Cook/Susannah Baughman (gr gr gr gr gr grandparents).
My grandmother was 101 when she died.
She was born in 1874. She often spoke of Indian raids upon her ancestors. She once told me that her great great grandparents
were being raided her husband ran for the horse and the grandmother dropped their baby from the loft in their home and her husband caught it while in the saddle and evaded the Indians. In the meantime, she (the gr gr grandmother) ran off to the woods to escape capture. She often ended that story with "I'm sure glad he caught it or I wouldn't be here because that baby was my great grandmother". She had lots of stories regarding her ancestors in Ky West Virginia. She is buried in Irvine, Ky (Estill County). Her husband died in the 1920's while working as a railroad detective.
He was murdered during a gun battle.
