My name is Nancy M Ivy. Queen Ann Hammock is my Great Grandmothers sister. Katie Parilee Hammock are the daughters of Josie 'Sumners' & Jacob Hammock. They were married in Haywood County TN Sept 28, 1886. Katie married my Great Grandfather Andrew Jackson Williams.

I am so glad to finally find someone who knows Queen Ann.

Hello, this is Bonnie Hammock, Charles's daughter from Missouri. I spent a summer with the Hammock family in Linden, Alabama in the 60"s. Bobby and Greg Hammock were young boys at that time. Sybil made biscuits and gravy every morning. I gained about 10 pounds on my visit. They took me down to the Gulf Shores, too. They treated me so wonderful, I have never forgotten how good they were to me. I came to Robert's funeral and that was the last time I saw Sybil. I would love to hear and know about her and you boys.

But first, a little about where I'm coming from - My last proven ancestor is Ambrose Harrison Duncan (b.c. 1745 d. Granville Co, NC). He lived in Bute Co NC (cut from Old Granville) near a Peter Duncan. Also, a Blanchflower Duncan Sr about 3-4 miles away. Also, a Paschal family living nearby. Blanchflower Duncan is a known son of a Henry Duncan, son of Peter Duncan of Westmoreland Co. Va. (who lived near the Middleton family mentioned in these post). Peter the Elder had known sons, Charles, Peter, Henry, John (and maybe a Matthew). I believe my ancestor was the son of John, son of Peter, son of John (brother to Peter & Rebecca), son of Peter the Elder .

Peter the Elder also had a dt, Rebecca (who first married Thomas Kirtley), who later married John Hartley (who I believe is named in the estate info you provided). Also, my information is that Richard Hammock married Elizabeth, the relict of Peter Duncan, the son of Peter the Elder. Some documents indicating this through court proceeding of a Stephen Bailey, representing children of Peter Duncan II. Other dts of Peter the Eldere were Elizabeth, who married George Harrison, Ellener married ???, Ann married Dennis Cornhill (sp)

Glad to exchange info...Think I have the documentation to prove above.

PS: This Rebecca and John Hartley is a big find for me - THANKS - John Hartley also had property in Westmoreland Co Va.

Lewis M Hammock signed as surety for the marriage of Solomon Ray and Jane Echols in 1796 in Wilkes co Ga. I noticed Gresham was one if the families you are researching. Solomon Ray witnessed the will of a Gresham in 1796 in Wilkes co Ga. I can not remember his first name. Was the Greshams you are researching from Wilkes co Ga in the 1790's. Lewis Hammock was the son of Robert Hammock and Milinor Jackson. I am trying to find who the parents were of Jane Echols who was born about 1779. She married Solomon Ray. Were your Greshams related tot he Hammocks and the Rays and the Echols in Wilkes co Ga in the 1790's. Thanks,Ross

Two or three years ago I found a book on the Hammock Family in the Rockdale County GA Library. Last week I returned to get more information from this book in hopes I might find if the book is still in print. The library is under construction at this time and I was unable to look at the book again. When I asked about the book they did not have it listed in the computer . Does anyone out there know of a book on the Hammock Family and how I might aquire one thanks so much. I am a descendant of John Day who married Susannah Hammock in Newton Co. GA. in 1822. I am not personally related, but was researching for a family member.

I, too, heard that she was possibly Cherokee, but I have not found any evidence to support that. Everything I have found also records her as white. She was not found in the Dawes Roll, nor in the US Indian census rolls. I did not find the family in the OK Territorial census for 1890, although Riley was born there Aug 1890.

Neither the 1900 or 1910 census records (for Indians) record her or any other in the family as on a reservation or not, and those records have listings of individuals with minimal Indian blood.

I'm not saying that she was not of Indian descent, but I have not been able to find anything to support that claim. She may have been, and chose to pass as white.

Her Father was John Hammock, no information about him yet.

I don't know what led me to check my various messages tonight, but I'm glad I did. I am embarrassed to say I don't know any of Viney's kids names. In fact, I probably last saw you when you were not even in school yet. You probably don't know that I am Ed's daughter.

I know Linda was in touch with some of the Johnson's and I believe it was someone in that family who sent her pictures of Grandma & Grandpap Wingren and their kids when they were young and still living in Alabama. Linda told me she would send me copies of the pictures but that was when she was so ill and sometime in that period, she told me JR had cleaned up her desk and she had no idea where he would have put the pictures. He said he had not thrown them away, but she suspected he may have not realized what they were and just tossed them. I was hoping that same person would see the message on here and possibly send me copies of the pictures. I was in brief contact with one of the Johnsons at one time but he didn't have pictures. See will of Moses Walker, Jasper Co , Ga. Rachael Walker Hammock) was the sister of Moses Walker and the daughter of JoHn Walker of Pa and Chester S. Carolina. John died in Rowan Co, N Carolina and left will in 1803, names Rachel and siblings . Hammocks and the Walkers were neighbors in WIlkes county during the 1790s and up till most moved on to other counties.

Is anyone researching the Hammocks who were in Wilkes co Georgia in the 1790's and probably before that? I believe they were from Amelia co Virginia but I am not sure. I am looking for an Echols connection in Va or Ga. Solomon Ray married Jane echols in 1796 in Wilkes co Ga. LEWIS hAMOOCK SIGNED AS SURETY. sOR SOMEONE TO HAVE SIGNED AS SURETY AND PUT UP MONEY FOR A MARRIAGE THEY WERE USUALLY RELATED BUT NOT ALWAYS. There was a Robert Hammock living in Albemarle co Va in 1785 and probably before then. I think he was the Robert Hammock who went to Wilkes co Ga. His land was next to my ancestor's land in Wilkes co Ga. My ancestor's ame was George Ray or Wray born in Va in probably the 1740's. He had a son named Solomon ray who married Jane echols in 1796 in Wilkkes co ga. Robert Hammock's son Lewis signed as surety for their marriage. Would you have any Wrays or Rays listed in your data base who were close to the Hammocks in Albemarle co Va? Also, I can not find who Jane Echol's parents were. The Echols were from Virginia originally. Would you know if there were any Echols families close to the Hammocks in Va? Jane was born about 1779 possibly in NC. Did any of the Hammocks go to NC after Virginia. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Do you mean the Ella Mae Hammock from Georgia, originally born Ella Mae Smith in 1886? I believe her father was Samuel K. Smith, born July 14, 1852. If this is her, then she married Henry D. Hammock and had several children, including Tessie Ree Hammock who is my great-grandmother. Let me know if you want the rest of the information I have on them.

On June 16, 1900 Thomas N. Hammock, age 28, and wife, Emily A. (Hand), age 30, lived in the Lost Creek Community of Ranburne, Cleburne County, Alabama.

He was born in June 1871 in Alabama and she was born in May 1870 in Alabama. They had been married 8 years. She had 4 children and 3 were still living.

Children in the household were:

George W., born July 1894
Guy Herbert born March 1897
Mary J., born October 1899

In 1910 it appears that Thomas had died and Emily was living with her children in Precinct 9, Cleburne County, Alabama.

Emily, 40 years old, widow,
she and father born in GA, mother born in Alabama
George Wesley., son, age 14
Guy Herbert, son, age 13
Mary J., daughter, age 10
Isaiah W., son, age 4
