Marie, I believe the Henry Goodlett in your query was in business with Job H. Goodlett. I must tell you that there is something strange about Job. In the 1850 census of Shelby Co TN, Job is listed with 3 sons - ages 2,4, & 6 (I believe without files in front of me) all born in MS but without a wife listed. There are 2 marriages later involving Job - one in 1858 & one later, I think. To be certain about all this I would have to go to files. I have never been able to locate a marriage record for these children in MS or states around. Job was in Memphis before his brother, William Hume, arrived; but they never were in business together. Job moved from one job to another - always seemingly less important positions. The story goes that Job's son, James E, enlisted at age 17 in the Civil War and rode with Morgan's troops. He was taken prisoner and held in IL. William Hume went to IL and secured his release - making him his business partner in Memphis in the cotton factor business that flourished. When William Hume died, his widow married James E. I can't remember the year Job H died, but the city directory lists his widow the next year. I would have to go dig in files to figure out who Henry might be. There might be court records - have not looked any further than census and city directory for info about the Goodlett family in Memphis. These are sons to the line I am most interested in tracking and I have not followed them very closely. I am most interested in Ebenezer Erskine Goodlet's other son, Adam Gibb, and Adam Gibb the brother to Ebenezer Erskine who came to Nashville TN in the early 1800s. Who exactly are you researching? Maybe I should have looked in the LA records for a marriage for Job H Goodlett - the mother of the 3 children listed in the 1850 census. All the best, Julia
