Do you suppose the parent names would also be on her death certificate? (She died in Massachusetts.) I am sure my mother must have known their first names for the records.

hi,

i don't think the robert on the passenger list is your robert. I looked robert up in the 1881 census, and the only one i found that would fit the one from the passenger list is in an insane asylum. you need to get the birth certificate so you can get the parents names for MaryAnn.

I am not sure when Robert was born, so don't quite know what to look for on a census. I don't have the World census program any more, just the US one. I do have a ship record of a Robert Hammond coming to the US, and it would have been about the right time for my grandma's brother to have come looking for her, but his birthplace makes me unsure:

The Mary Ann in 1865 may be my grandmother; her birthday was 13 Jan 1864. I also believe she is called "Maria Hammonds" in 1881.

I got some more information for you to follow up on...

I found a birth record for a Sarah Caroline Hammond born 1856 in Birmingham. Its registered in the 3rd qtr, volume 6D, page 254. You need that information to order the certificate. that will tell you both the parents names and where they live. Then you can follow up to see if these are parents for mary ann. There are two Mary Ann Hammond registered...one in 1862 and one in 1865. The one in 1862 is 3 qtr, volume 6d, page 116. the one in 1865 is 2nd qtr, volume 6d, page 473.

Also I found a marriage for a Sarah Hammond to a Joseph Bellamy in 1879 who was a tailer. He was born in Leicester however.

I found a marriage for a Caroline Louisa Hammond to either George Arkinstall or Michael Johnston in 1872 Birmingham. But by the 1881 census in England, George was a widow and there is no married Michael Johnston in 1881. However the majority of Michael Johnston's listed were from Ireland. I would purchase the marriage cert to find out who she actually married and her father's name which would be on the certification. (the husband's father will be listed as well). You can order it online from the GRO.

HI there,

I went back and read the posts. It's possible Caroline married someone who was from Ireland and went there to live and she may have had children. She may have just been visiting and that's why she "went back to Ireland" to be with her children and husband in Ireland. The Birmingham picture says they are all from Warwick England especially if the girls are children at the time. The other thing is that Caroline may be a middle name that she used instead of a first name because she may not have liked her first name, or her mother preferred the middle name but was forced to give her a name the father chose. There could be several reasons.

My grandmother never mentioned that Anne married, but she did know Caroline married and "went back to Ireland". The "went BACK" is interesting and suggests that Caroline had been in Ireland before she married. The mother's maiden name of "Hughes" was told to me by my grandmother (and spelled) several times. Perhaps she was originally from Ireland. I have discovered that not only was Mary Ann a dressmaker, but her sister Anne may have also been one.

Mary Ann was probably the youngest (born 1864) and Anne the eldest.Mary Ann came to the US in 1882 and fibbed on that date in 1900. Anyone knowing anything about this family please reply.

Hi i am looking for any info on martha hammond nee davies born 1861 i think llanfairfechin, she married william hammond 1882 ludlow, had a son william 1884, then she seemed to get ill and was in hospital i carnt find her on any cencus, or her death william (husband) is on the 1901 census with 2 more chilldren albert and doris in ashton and is a widower then but i still carnt find anything about her she seems to be our family mistery that we carnt fathem

I'd like to find the parents of Amanda Hammond b. abt 1817 in OH, d. 1897, buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Zanesville, OH, and was m. to John Graham on 15 Dec., 1845. I am wondering if her father was Charles, the early Belmont County politician, but I cannot find a list of his children's names. John Graham, her husband, was a carder in a woolen mill in Jerusalem, Belmont County, OH in 1880; and they resided then in Malaga then. Both her parents are listed on the census as being born in MD.

Their children: Sidney b. 1840, William b. 2 Jan 1848, Mary Eliza (my ancestor) b. 22 Aug 1846, Adaline A. b. 10 May 1849, Jane b. abt 1852, Margaret Ella b. 10 Jun 1856, Robert b. 1858, John W. b. abt 1860.

I just read your word docs attached. Thanks for the information! One note - Selah (Celia) Cheney was not born in Sharon, Litchfield. Her Father Zebulon Tyler was born and raised in Windham County, Brooklyn and Canterbury. She was baptized in South Killingly, Windham with her mother Betty, of Pomfret and Canterbury. Neither Joseph or Selah were in Litchfield. Way too much info, but I have found a lot of very good info on Joseph and Selah (did you ever see the South Killingly Church records that show Betty, wife of Zebulon Tyler, bapt with her daughter Selah and son Abijah? June 20, 1770). As you know, Joseph moved to Vermont, as did Elizabeth and her husband above, just about the same time. JOB1 TYLER was born about 1619, as in a deposition of 1659, his age is stated as "about 40 yeares." The author of this history (who died before its publication) left a note stating that he had never been able to "find a scintilla of evidence upon which to base" the tradition that Job Tyler was a native of Shropshire, England. Job's death is nowhere recorded. It is conjectured that he died in Mendon and was there buried, but no proof is at hand to confirm the supposition. He married Mary - —. It has been thought by one of the descendants of Job engaged in research that she may have been a widow Horton, but the proof of this statement has not been forthcoming. She was dismissed to the church in "Mendham" from the church in Roxbury on the 28th day of the third month (May), 1665. Her birth and death are unrecorded so far as present research has gone. The eldest child was born in Roxbury or Andover as was probably the third; the fifth and sixth in Roxbury; the others are uncertain. Douglass ".....His will and other Massachusetts records indicate that he had children Mary, married before 1639 Thomas Woodford; daughter, married first a Green, and second a Tosier; Joanna, married 1644-45 Daniel Lovett; Lydia, married before August 1646 Daniel Turin or Turell; and Sarah, born about 1631, married 1652 Edward Ellis."

The TAG article goes on to speculate that Robert may have been the son of an earlier Robert of Harrold, who left a will dated 03 Jan. 1609/10. He mentions a wife Elizabeth, and sons William, John, Robert, Thomas; and daughters Marye, Alice, Edith (or Judith), and Joane. This article, and the subsequent one, "John Black of Charlestown Was Really Robert Blott" by Robert Charles Anderson both concur, by the way, that Robert had only one wife, Susanna Selbee.

He died 1726, having made his will 5 June 1723, in which he names as living wife Sarah, all his sons and daughters except Mary (and her two daughters Hannah and Mary to have their mother's part), and made his son Robert and son-in-law Thomas Gates to be executors. The farm, which he bought 1664, is now occupied by his descendants in Ledyard, set off from Groton, formerly part of New London. Sarah married Nathaniel

Robert Allen, who was living in Salem as early as 1636, when he was granted land there, is said to have been a brother of William Allen. Robert was granted land at Jeffries creek (now Manchester) in 1638, and removed thither before 1648, when he was constable there. He was made freeman 26: 4: 1649. He emigrated, with the Gloucester company, to New London, Conn., in March, 1651, and removed to Norwich before 1662, when he was dismissed from the Salem to the Norwich church. He soon afterward returned

Benjamin Fassett's will:....I will to my only daughter Elizabeth TYLER of my moveable estate four pewter dishes, six pewter plates, two pewter basons, two pewter poringers which was of sd pewter that was used in my house in the days of Elizabeth FASSET my first wife.......When Elizabeth Tyler's mother, Elizabeth Parks died, her father Benjamin remarried to Eleanor (Fassett) Adams (when her husband Issac Adams died). Elizabeth's Tyler's oldest son, Zebulon Tyler, married Betty Adams, daughter of Eleanor (Fassett) Adams. Her son having married her stepmothers daughter.

Benjamin was born 17 July 1690 in Billerica, Mass. He 1st m. on the 4 Feb. 1713/14 to Elizabeth Park of Concord, Mass., the daughter of Lt. Richard and Elizabeth Hastings Billings Park. At this time of his marraige he was called "of Lexington," according to Concord Records. He married 2nd on 5 Feb. 1758 to Mrs. Eleanor Adams. He died 3 October 1764.
Benjamin Fassett soon after his marraige removed to Canterbury and Pomfret, Connecticut. The church records of the Second Church in Pomfret (now Brooklyn, Conn..) on the 21 Nov. 1734. He held one share as proprietor under the patent of 1710. John, Josiah, Benjamin and Elizabeth were Separates in 1742. In 1748, Benjamin and John appear among petitioners to form a town out of the Northlake Society. The town of Brooklyn was formed in 1786.

Thomas Bellows Wyman, Genealogies and Estates of Charlestown, Massachusetts 1629 - 1818 (Boston David Clapp & Son 1879) calls John REYLEY, ROYLLEY, brother-in-law to Patrick FASSETT which implies that Sarah FASSETT was either a REYLEY or sister to John REYLEY's wife. I found no proof of this but made only a limited search at this time.

Patrick was born in 1629 and died Nov. 1713 at the age of 85. He is buried in the Old South Cemetary, Billerica, Mass. with grave stone. He married Sarah Reyley.. She was born in 1644 and died 15 Jan. 1739/40 at the age of 95. Sarah married second on 23 April 1716, Thomas Bateman, Concord, Mass. Patrick is buried Billerica, Middlesex, Ma. Sarah is buried in the Old South Cemetary.

That Lt. Richard Park, of Concord, was not identical with Richard, son of Thomas, is easily proved by the following considerations:
1st. Richard Parks and Elizabeth Billings were married according to the Concord records, May 14, 1690. They had children Joseph born 1691, Elizabeth born 1693, Sarah born 1696 Josiah born 1698 and Abigail born 1700; just in the very decade of years that Richard the son of Thomas, was on Mr. Jackson's authority having quite a different lot of children born at Newton. 2nd. Lt. Richard Parks, of Concord, died June 19, 1725, in the 5th year of his age; his tombstone being the authority. This would bring his birth in the year 1667 or 1668. While according to Dr. Bond, Richard the son of Thomas was born Dec. 21, 1663, and was thus four or five years older than the Lt. Richard of Concord. 3rd. In the record of the births of his children at Concord, Lt. Richard is frequently called Richard Parks JR. This of itself would imply that there was a Richard Parks SENIOR, then living.

On April 9, 1711, Richard Parks, senior and his wife Mary and John Parks and wife Deliverence, all of Concord, sell and convey unto Richard Parks Jr., of said Concord, a certain messuage or tenement containing two dwelling houses, and two barns and thirty acres of upland, in south part of Concord and bounding on land of Joseph Da—ey, John Smith, Daniel Dean, and John Heywood. This deed, as well as several others from various grantors to Lieut. Richard Parks, appears to have escaped record until after Lt. Richard's death when they were all recorded at once, probably to facilitate the settlement of the estate.
John Parks, husband of Deliverance, was a son of Richard and Mary. Find no record of his birth or that of Lieutenant Richard. They must have been born before their parents left Cambridge for Sherborn.
John Parks sold his birthright to Lieut. Richard, removed to Weston with his wife and two daughters; and father and mother went there also, for it is recorded in Vol. II of the Middlesex Court records, page 316, under date of Aug. 30, 1715 that: " At his Majesty's Court of General Sessions of ye Peace holden at Concord the Selectmen of Weston are allowed to enter their caution against one Richard Parks, and his wife Mary, both being aged and impotent persons, being inhabitants of their town, having been warned by a constable pursuant to law, to remove out of their town." Here we must leave our newly discovered Richard and Mary, parents of Lieut. Richard Parks.

While all previously published accounts give but three children to Richard1 Parke, and have entirely , ignored the existence of a second Richard; there seem to be very good reasons for believing that this second Richard was the oldest son of Richard'. Notwithstanding the fact that the first Richard dying in 1665, named in his will no son but Thomas, I am still convinced that this Richard of Cambridge Village was his son, who being older than his brother Thomas, had already received his portion of his father's estate during the lifetime of his father. The will of the first Richard Parks is a curious document; written partly in the first person and partly in the third person; obviously dictated; not mentioning by name his wife or either of his daughters, and with a meaningless and shapeless blot in place of a signature, as if the baud that held the pen were already too weak to write.

He owned in 1655 seven lots containing fifty-four acres, which was later (1880) owned by Amos Baker. He died August 24, 1673. Children: 1. Will of Deacon John Hastings dated 26 Jul 1657 Mentions wife Anne, sons Walter, Samuel and John, daughter Elizabeth, daughter-in-law Mary Meane, son-in-law William Buttricke. The widow Ann died 25 (1) 1666, age about 60. The inventory of her estate was filed by son Walter, 3 April 1666. Walter and Samuel, who had married her two daughters, agreed on division of the estate with John Hastings and Elizabeth Billings.

Mosley's Co. 12/19/1675 on the attack of Camp Swamp (now West Kingston, R.I.) After being paid on 1/6/1676, they waited for orders that were given on 2/15/1676 to return to Sudbury, and finally paid on 6/24/1676 for the campaign. Before the outbreak of King Phillip's war, Richard Adams had gone in 1673 with his mother to Worcester Co., Mass. (originally Suffolk Co., until 1713) south of Lancaster, where she had land. After the war Richard was married in Sudbury; and he and his wife remained at Sudbury until after 1689, the last date of a birth recorded for them there. They attended the Sudbury Church, founded in 1640. Richard was near Major James Fitch, who settled north of him in the Lisbon section, Preston, being south of Lisbon and east of Norwich. In the summer of 1695 Richard is reported as a tax collector for Major Fitch. In an altercation with one of the major's tenants over the rent, he is reported to have been struck by Benjamin Palmer, and the case went to the New London Co. Court. (Larned, v.1.p.107) Note that Maj. James Fitch was a son of the Rev. James Fitch, 1st pastor of Norwich, New London Co.; Maj. Fitch's granddaughter, Lydia, married Richard Adams' grandson, Phineas Adams, Son of William.--(Pond, p. 48.) Richard might have died 6/24/1679 in Sudbury, Middlesex Co., MA.--(Alice Beard).

James Adams died after 1656 when he was living on the Island of Barbadoes where he purchased 3000 pounds of "good Marchantable Muskovadoe Sugar" from Nicholas Ware.

The payment to son James, made by Kenelm Winslow, was recorded on 26 December 1651.

I've run across Welthea Holcomb(e) and Calvin Hammond - Welthea was the daughter of Abner and Mindwell (Buell) Holcombe. The Holcombes in general came from New York and Connecticut.

Paducah Kentucky area is where my ancestors are from, I have one cousin that I know lived all his life in Paducah and the McCracken County area, He passed away about five years ago. (George Hammond). My father is Robert Hammond, who passed away in 1981 in Ohio. He was a baker. He was married to Louise Stanley, my Mother. My grandparents on my Fathers' side are buried in Paducah. I took pictures of their grave sites when my cousin showed me around and took me to the house that I lived in untill I was about 4 years old. I would like to know more about the Hammond family also.

John William Hammond, 75, Wapello, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2006, at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, after a brief illness.

Max L. Hammond will officiate. Burial will be at the Wapello Cemetery with military rites by the Glenn Allen Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5166.

He born Jan. 23, 1931, in Louisa County, the son of Max Albert and Josephine Morrison Hammond. He married Mary Helmick on Jan. 12, 1957, at Louisa Center Church, Louisa County.

He was raised on a farm in Louisa County and attended school in Louisa County and Columbus Junction. He then served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked in the Louisa County Engineers office for almost 40 years before retiring in 1993.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5166, Wapello; the Odessa Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and his family, especially his new granddaughter Kamdyn and great-grandson, Christian.

His friendship will be missed by all.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Max Hammond and wife Adrianna and Jeff Hammond and wife Katie, all of Wapello; two grandsons, Sgt. Christopher Hammond of the Army National Guard stationed at Fort Rucker, Ala. and Lance Cpl. Joshua Hammond of the U.S. Marines stationed in Iraq; two granddaughters, Samantha Rosbury and husband Aaron and Kamdyn Hammond, all of Wapello; and a great-grandson, Christian Rosbury; his mother, Josephine Hammond of Columbus Junction; a brother, Richard Hammond and wife Lorna of Wapello; a sister, Sharon Zimmer and husband Gene of Lemars; four aunts; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Hammond was born Oct. 16, 1953, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Richard and Lorna Hammond. On June 25, 2005, he married Peggy Erquist.

He graduated from a technical school and began a 33-year career in the power line industry. Recently, he and his wife began to fulfill a lifelong dream of opening a boat repair business.

She loved making homemade bread, spending time with her grandchildren and getting together with her brothers and sisters for reunions. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and enjoyed her great spirit for living life to the fullest.

She is survived by her son, Richard Hammond and wife, Lorna, of Wapello; a daughter, Sharon Zimmer and husband, Eugene, of LeMars; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Lillian Fletcher and Marion Langstaff and husband, Douglas, all of Wapello; and a son-in law, Jack Gustison and a daughter-in-law, Mary Hammond, both of Wapello.

Mr. Hammond was born March 7, 1947 in Trussville, Alabama, a son of Joseph and Estella Lake Hammond.

He was a 1968 graduate of South High School and entered the U.S. Army in 1969 until 1972, and then the U.S. Army Reserves until 1975. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Good Conduct Medal.

He was employed by Youngstown Sheet and Tube and later Dacas Home Health Care. He enjoyed music and being with family, especially his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his daughter, Bridgett Hammond of Baltimore; four grandchildren, Eric, Keondre, Emani and Khalil; his siblings, Joseph Hammond Jr., Joanne Hammond, Winifred (Anthony) Woodland, Jeffrey Hammond, Barry Hammond, and Sherry King, all of Youngstown, mahoning county, Ohio and Beverly (Paul) Shinn of Connecticut; as well as a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Cynthia Sims and Gregory Hammond.
