Surnames: Hammond, Hardwick, Hamond, Hamons, Hammons
Update as of 6/2015. William's middle initial may not be M. Have found a "W.D.Hammond" signature on granddaughter Madge Grace Hammond Esgar death certificate. She died before her mother Hattie did, in Ohio. There is another Chafins that was an error. The name is Chapman. Now it's possible Alifair's last name was misunderstood too. It may well be Chapman.

This creates a major problem. If William died in West Virginia in 1939, who (if not him) is W.D. Hammond who signed Madge's death certificate in 1951? Possible the W.D. Hammond is another family member, identity unknown.

I have a death certificate for William Hammond (married Victoria Hardwick) that says his parents were Allifair Chafins and Phillip Hammond. Am seeking info on mysterious William: born Sept 23, 1865 in Louisa KY, died March 7, 1939 in Weston, WV. Victoria (aka Virginia) died before 1910. Have lots of info on his kids: Hattie Florence, George Washington, William David, Vergie and James Arthur. Could your Allifair be the same as mine? I have no Susan, Christine or Nancy though.

Each of them spelled the name differently at different times: Hammond, Hamond, Hammons, Hamons and Hammonds. Nice...
Thanks back!
