The Phillip Hamman Family Association Reunion is held every two years and for the 2012 reunion the group is “going back to our roots”. Phillip Hamman and Christina Cook were married in 1780 at Cooks Mill in Greenbrier Co. Virginia. When part of Virginia was set aside to form the state of West Virginia, Greenbrier County, VA became Monroe County, West Virginia.

The 2012 reunion will be in Lewisburg, West Virginia. The Quality Inn, Lewisburg will be the headquarters for the reunion. A block of 30 rooms has been reserved for the dates Wednesday, August 1 through Sunday, August 5, 2012. The address and phone number for the Quality Inn (formerly The Brier Inn)is 540 N. Jefferson St., Lewisburg, WV 24901, 304-645-7722. The usual room rate is $89/night (standard room)but a special rate of $79/night for the Hamman group. This block of rooms will be held until 30 days before arrival (June 30) The hotel will provide our Saturday night banquet.

Jim Rose, the Hamman Family Association president, has contacted Fred and Barbara Ziegler. They are the owners of Cook's Mill, which was in possession of the members of Christina Cook’s family for many years. The Zieglers have set aside the dates Thursday, Aug 2 and Friday, Aug 3,2012 as possible dates for our Hamman visit to Greenville to visit the mill.

Other things on the agenda for the group to see include: Ft. Donnally on Radar Rd southeast of Lewisburg, Cook's Mill and the area around Greenville where Phillip Hamman and Valentine Cook settled. There is a historical museum and genealogy library for Greenbrier Co. in Lewisburg. They have collections and have a fair amount of info. There is also a small historical museum in Union for Monroe County. They have several of the Monroe County publications for sale there. There may be other things in the area that would be of interest to our group.

It is time for Hamman family members to begin making plans to attend the 2012 Reunion.
