Wesley Hammond / Hammonds and Cynthia Smith of West Virginia and Kansas

I'm looking for information on Wesley HAMMOND or HAMMONDS and Cynthia E. SMITH who lived West Virginia until the between 1875 and 1878 when they moved to Reno County, Kansas. They were married in 1854 in Pleasants County, West Virginia. I have found census records placing them in Wick, Tyler County in 1860 and Grant, Ritchie County in 1870. I am also told by a distant cousin that he was told they were from Wheeling--that's perhaps where Wesley and/or Cynthia were raised.

Wesley was born abt 1828, and Cynthia about 1838, according to census records. Cynthia had a brother named John who was born about 1846 who lived with them in 1860. I'd like to know who their parents were, but have not been able to find any records or any information.

Wesley and Cynthia had ten children, nine of whom were born in Kansas between 1855 and 1875: Fenton (b 1855, m Clarinda Tyne CARPENTER, moved to Iowa), John Calhoun Breckenridge (b 1860, m. Anna Jane KEYS and later Anna, died in Kansas), Thomas Eberly "Tom" (b 1861, m Ada SHORT, d in Kansas), William "Bill" (b 1865, died in Kansas), Cordelia and Celia/Cecelia (twins) (b 1868) (Celia m. Joseph ALTENREAD), Leroy (b 1871 died in infancy), Sarah Francis "Doll" (b. 1872, m. Levi ALTENREAD, died in Kansas), and Albert (b. 1873, m. Sadie, died in Kansas). The youngest, S. J. W. "Jack," was born in Kansas in 1878.

If you have any information on this family, I would love for you to share it with me!

I live in Corpus Christi, Texas and found a photo in a local antique shop. It is a picture of Verl H. Hammonds in a sailor uniform. The back of the photo says: Verl H. Hammonds R.F.d.#1 Mill Creek W. Va. It also says: Photographs by JAMES 325 No. Fifth, Oxnard, Calif.

If this picture belongs to your family, I would love to return it to you. It may mean nothing to some, but may be priceless to others.

Cheryl A. Daubs

I am searching for information regarding a Felix Hammonds. He was born after 1827 in Knox County, but cannot find information on his birth or parents. I am wondering if Felix is his middle name, or if I just can't find the records because they are not online yet. He married Alafair Chafin, Christina Horn (Lawrence County KY), and Nancy Smith(possibly Wayne County WVA?) Showing back in Lawrence county KY. I have seen some of the names involved with Obediah involved in my family so I am wondering if they are related. Any help you can give me would be wonderful.

Thanks!
Tina
I found Marriage records here: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kyknox/Marriage-Certificat...
John Hammond Married Patsy Garland 27 Jun 1816, Knox County, Kentucky.

I have Obediah Hammons married Susannah Garland 10 July 1814 in Knox County Kentucky.

Peter Hammons married Patsy Hale 10 Sep 1809 Knox County, Kentucky.

I know I found a website yesterday that shows more information on them, like where they are from and such. I know that it showed that one the parents were from one of the carolina's and the other one showed from VA. Rowan sticks to mind. Hope this all helps.

Tina

I have a Felix Hammonds that is shown as born after 1827 from Knox county Kentucky. I am curious if there is a first name for him. He married Alafair Chafin, Christine Horn and Nancy Smith. He married Christine Horn in Lawrence county from what I have been told, but moved to Wayne county West Virginia, before returning to Lawrence Ky. I am also wondering if Susan Hammonds could be his sister.

Thanks for your assistance!
Tina
