Classification: Query
Surnames: Hamp, Burgess, Chick, Turner, Keeler, Read, Tilsbury, Bourne, Hanson, Crick.
According to family letters my HAMP ancestor JOSEPH HAMP, had two brothers, BENJAMIN and EDWARD ALEXANDER. All born sometime in the early 1800's, Joseph is thought to have been born c1806. All possibly in the London area.
BENJAMIN married MARY CRICK in 1843, Middx.
They had as far as I know, the following children -
JAMES - born 1844 - married Harriet Bourne 1871
EMMA - born 1847 - married James Hanson 1872 Newington, Surrey
CHARLES - born 1850
ALFRED - born 1852
GEORGE - born c1855
HUBERT - married Winifred Tilsbury 1915 (confirmed)
EDWARD - married Gertrude Read 1906
LEONARD - married Emily Read 1906
EDWARD ALEXANDER married Rebecca Keeler in 1838 and they had the following children to my knowledge -
CHARLES Keeler HAMP - born c1842 ( had a son who went to New York)
EDWARD ALEXANDER - born 1840 - married Mary Turner in South Africa and had twin sons, EDWARD ALEXANDER and WILLIAM Turner
ALFRED - born c1848
ELLEN - born c1841
ELIZABETH - no details of birth, it is believed she married a Mr CHICK
SARAH - no further details
JOSEPH HAMP married Harriet BURGESS - possibly in 1833, London, but spent the rest of their lives in Ware, Hertfordshire UK.
Letters from the family state there were 16 children in all, I only have the following names , all born in Ware, Herts -
JANE - born 1834 - died 1835
CHARLES - born 1836
FRANCIS - born 1837 (my Great great grandfather)
EDWARD - born 1839
JOSEPH - born 1841
ALFRED - born 1842
EMILY Harriet - born and died 1844
HENRY - born 1845
BENJAMIN - born 1846
ROSA ELLEN - born 1848
GEORGE FREDERICK - born 1849
JAMES SAMUEL - born 1851
THOMAS CHARLES - born 1852
EMILY AGNES - born 1854
In the family letters there is mention of a THOMAS HAMP born Jan 1835, and yet another EMILY also born c1835. This would make up the 16 children, but so far there is no proof of these two children.
If anyone has any information about the above, please get in touch. I am in contact with another HAMP researcher, and we would love to hear from anyone with connections to the above, or with ANY HAMP CONNECTIONS in the UK. Many thanks.
