Surnames: Hampson, Whitaker, Stanton,
He was my great-great grandfather (his son William was my grandfather and Roy B. Hampson was my grandfather). Here is what I know about him: He was born in Liverpool, England. He was destined to be a shoe cobbler (as were all boys - girls were supposed to be dress makers). Because he didn't want this, he was a stowaway at the age of 12 to America. The captain of the ship he came over on found him a home in NYC. He was in the Yankee Army during the civil war and sustained a (non-fatal) head injury. He moved to Syracuse, MO after his discharge and was given 80 acres of land. He is buried in Olive Branch Cemetery. His first wife was Sarah Whitiker who died in childbirth. He married her sister, Elmyra who died in 1916. He had five children: Mary Ellen, Thomas, James, William Benjamin (my grandfather, born March 28, 1870, died Aug 30 year unknown) and Robert, who died as a child and who is buried also in the Olive Branch Cemetery. William Benjamin married Sarah Modelia Stanton (DOB 10/7 1874, died 9/12 1958). They had 8 children: Tracey, Ray (died in infancy), Chloe (Sam Donaldson's mother), Herbert, Roy (my grandfather), Olga, Ruth and Ethel. Which Hampson branch are you from?
