Trying to find great grandfathers ancestors. John Hampson born October of 1826 at Hooley Hill. He married Hannah Bardsley July of 1850 and son Jonas was born at Hooley Hill in 1851. They left for United States in October of 1852. On the 1851 census there was a Susannah and Francis Barlow staying with them listed as niece and nephew. They settled in Missouri and had Josephine, Ella, Laura, Ralph Berkley, and Adrienne Emily. I believe Ralph Hampson and Margaret Tomlinson Hampson were the names of John's parents. Would like to know if there were any other brothers or sisters and if any of them came to America with him. Any information is greatly appreciated.
HAMPSON, Edward and Eliza

Edward and Eliza HAMPSON (nee Harrison) were married on 1st Jan 1844 at the Manchester Cathedral, in Lancashire, England. Edward was the son of Thomas and Nancy HAMPSON of Lancashire, Edward was born in 1825. He was baptised on 15 May, 1825 t St Michael, Ashton Under Lyne, Lancashire.

Not long after Edward and Eliza's marriage they immigranted to the USA. Where one son we are aware of was born, Wright Harrison HAMPSON between 1848 and 1852. Not long after Wright HAMPSON'S birth, the couple, we believe with two other children, also born in the USA, decided to leave the States and immigrate to Australia. Where after settling in the Colony of New South Wales, they continued to enlarge their family.

Born were Thomas 1854, William 1856, Edward 1857, Henry 1860 and Mary 1862, all born in the Macleay River district, in Kempsey on the mid north coast of New South Wales. Edward became a Police Constable, and sadly while on duty on Christmas Eve in 1862 he was thrown from his horse and "dashed against a tree". He died from his injuries.

Does anyone know more about this family, especially their home in England and were there any of the HAMPSON family already in the USA? Was this why they may have first gone to the States to join them, before they decided to move on to Australia? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Regards,
Janice
Belrose - Sydney - Australia

Hampson, John of Lancashire

John Hampson b C1837, Billinge Lancashire, Married Hannah Nason b c1837, West Derby, Lancashire. ( I have not traced the parents of John, but do know that Hannah's father was Joseph Nason b 1814) In the 1881 census John is listed as a Retired Stone Mason with Children Minnie b 1873, Tranmere Cheshire; Samuel Appleton b 1874 (my great great grandfather) London Rotherhithe; Beatrice Hampson b 1876 Rotherhithe; Thomas b 1877 Rotherhithe; and Alice 1879, Keymer Sussex. But in the 1891 census all the children are listed as living with their brother John Hampson stone mason b abt1861, Everton Lancashire; with wife Elizabeth b abt 1866, Lambeth Surrey, residing in Gremich, London. No where else can I find information about the brother John. If anyone has any info they can offer to this family please let me know.
Also why is there so many Hampsons in Lancashire. Does anyone know the history behind this?

Hello. My maiden name is Hampson, and thanks to finding my dad's cousin here on these message boards I was able to locate alot of the Macclesfield Hampsons we are related to.
Now my mission is to try to find my grandad's wife. My grandad, Joe Hampson died in about 1975 and my grandmother, the Irish catholic Anne Veronica Burke died abt 1959. I believe she came from Galway co Ireland. She was very active in community theatre, especially musicals. Jo and Anne (Burke) Hampson had three children, all still living, the oldest, Joe in NZ, and twins Vincent and Frank (my father) in Australia. any help with information or point me in the right direction to find Anne Veronica Bourke's parents and ancestry would be greatly appreciated. Much thanks.
Rhonda (Hampson) Pinkerman

Hi

My paternal grandfather was Nathan Hampson probably born in the early 1900s - he married my grandmother Phyllis and they had 2 children John Hampson (born around 1932) my father and Arthur Hampson who still lives in Chorley, Lanc.

He left my grandmother and she told her sons he was dead - my father had someone tell him as a young man that his father was not dead and pointed him out in a bar. He apparently had a defacto wife and other children - but this was all a family secret.

Keen to know a little more about my heritage and this man - so my kids will know the history of their name and heritage. My direct email address is ralph@rootprojects.com.au

Cheers

Ralph

Hampson's from Paterson N.J.

I am researching the Hampson family line from Paterson, N.J. My father John was born in 1932 in Paterson, along with his father Alfred James Hampson (B Feb. 17, 1902). Alfred was a WWI veteran who served in Camp Holibird, MD. He contracted Rhumatic Fever and died in 1934. Alfred's father was Danial Hampson. He was married to Mary Ann Martin, Born in Ireland, when and where I don't know. Daniel worked for the railroad and also worked at a hospital in PAterson as a furnace firemen. Danial's father was Noah Hampson, who married Elizabeth??. Both reportedly from England??? Noah owned a laloon and a grocery store. He also owned almost all of Lewis street in PAterson. Residents nicknamed it "Noah's Ark" He also reportedly owned land in Bergin county. Elizabeth died around 1910-1911. Unknown when Noah died.

Any help on locating relatives or information on the Hampsons from PAterson, please e-mail me. Cheers - John
