Dear Leilani--thanks for your reply. I've looked into a few bits about your family (saw your earlier post about your grandfather Romallas Hampton). Right now, I'm not sure if there is a connection (though names are definitely the same). The Hamptons I am researching are definitely from Madison/Buckhead, Morgan County, GA which is about 65 miles from Thomson Ga. Also, my husband's grandfather "Bud" Hampton was early on referred to as Nelson in one census but never Miles. If you want we can still try to explore further. If you want you can just use my email address: elsiegarf@aol.com. Regards, Elsie

Penny, this news is quite exciting. I looked at the 1920 census record I have for Bud Hampton and he is listed on the same page as William and Gertrude Hampton and their children whom you listed. I believe that there is an error in the relationships indicated for Bud Hampton's family in that census--he is head and father of Mamie. But I believe all the children listed are her children (unknown father) which is borne out by later information I have located.

Have you made any progress on tracking down Bud and William's parents? You mentioned Dangerfield Hampton. I had seen in another tree the mention of Danielfield Hampton. But have no further information, perhaps because it gets into time of slavery which is tricky for tracking ancestors.

We can either continue this correspondance on the message board, or if you prefer by email--mine is elsiegarf@aol.com. Regards, Elsie

I find it quite uncanny that I had an Uncle "Bud" (Miles Hampton) and an Aunt Mamie (Mamie Hampton Lewis). Now you know how folks name their kids after other relatives. Please call me or let me call you and let's talk. My name is Leilani and my home number is 301.927.1812. Gather contacts for 2010 reunion. Chances are your husband and I are related. My dad's name was Wiley Hampton (a brother to the two I mentioned). They all remember Thomson, GA. That's the correct way to spell it, there's no "p" in it.

Hello Penny, my name is Elsie. I am doing research on my husband's father's African American family--Hamptons originating in Madison, Morgan County Georgia. Wondering if there might be a connection with your family?

My husband's father Bud Hampton was born in Georgia the son of Mamie Hampton; when he was a young man he moved to Chicago Illinois with several of his brothers (Percy and Haywood are the ones I located). Mamie's parents were Nelson "Bud" Hampton and Julia Inman; she had a sister Carrie and brother who continued to live in Georgia. Haven't really found much on Mamie's father Bud's family, but have found fair amount on parents of Julia Inman (Dennis and Harriette).

Hi, I am the daughter of Fred Hampton, who was the son of William Asbury Hampton. Fred actually had 3 sons and 1 daughter who are all still living. Fred was born June 29, 1913. Both Fred and Gertrude (Gertie) are now deceased. Actually Asbury was married to Fern but she was not the mother of his two children. From what we understand, their mother died at the birth of my dad. We don't know very much at all about the Hampton family but I am hoping to find out more about them as I start my research. Thus any information you could provide will be greatly appreciated.
Patty

Eunice Hampton Married to Joseph Hampton Letcher, KY

I have a Eunice Hampton in my family tree and I'm trying to find her parent's names, here is what I know.

She married Joseph Hampton sometime in the late 1800s. There are three children that I know of Martin, Malissie or Lissie, and Pricy. The children were born from 1899-1903.

Joeseph later married Mick Hall after Eunice died.

Here's my problem, Eunice was also a Hampton from a different line so her maiden name and married name were both Eunice Hampton. I can't find anything about her parents, but she would be my great-great grandmother.

My aunt has relayed the preceding information, and I've found a 1900 Census that backs this up with the correct children but all it says of her is:

Name: Eunice Hampton
Home in 1900: Millstone, Letcher, Kentucky
Age: 25
Birth Date: Mar 1875
Birthplace: Kentucky
Race: White
Ethnicity: American
Gender: Female
Relationship to Head of House: Wife
Father's Birthplace: Kentucky
Mother's Birthplace: Kentucky

If you have any information please let me know!

Thanks!
Angela Hampton

We now have an even closer, in fact identical match for Joseph Hampton's dna - to the family of James Hampton - Lycoming PA circa 1777-1780. You and Joseph are 1 dna marker different and Joseph and I are 2 dna markers different in the 67 marker test.

So we all descend from the same line, but somewhere between the 1683 immigrants Andrew and John Hampton, we picked up these differences, which are actually called mutations. DNA mutates, but generally speaking at a fairly slow rate. These mutations become usefull in identifying different braches of a family over time.

Presumably (if brothers) John and Andrew the imigrants would have had identical dna, being from the same father. With each succeeding generation a chance for a mutation occurs. In my case, somewhere between John Hampton the immigrant and me (8 generations), two markers mutated which now identifies my Line.
Karl
Ernest
James
William
Andrew
Jonathan
Andrew
Noah
John
We must also remember that generally speaking, the more markers tested, the more specific the results. There are generally more differences in markers (mutations) in a 37 marker test than a 12 marker and even more in a 46 marker test and even more in a 67 marker test. So far a 67 marker test is the maximum available in these geneoligcal tests. There are only 4 of us so far that have the 67 marker tests, most of the others are 12, 37 or 46 marker tests.

Back to Joseph, how is his family that shows up in GA circa 1820 related to the family of James in Lycoming PA in 1777? That is what we need to determine, but their dna is an identical match. Somehow, someone migrated from NJ or PA to GA by 1820? The folks moved a lot from 1730 -1850, almost every generation at least once, sometimes twice. Generally the went from NJ to MD or PA first then to VA and/or NC and SC and then TN, KY or GA. Some of Andrew the immigarnts family went to canada and some migrated from PA to Inidana. We now know that you are closely related to Joseph of 1820 GA and James of 1777 PA. The challenge is for you to figure out the gap between you and those two and I think you can presume your ancestors started out in NJ and somehow ended up in NC. Did they stop in PA or elsewhere or come straight from NJ? You have three areas of research for ancestors NC, PA and NJ.

Only good old fashioned paper research and a lot more dna samples will help answer those questions. Get every Hampton male yu can find to contribute a dna sample so we have more information upon which to make connections is one answer.

PS - I do not work for any dna company and get no benefit from them, just looking to expand our knowledge database before Hampton lines cease to exist. Unfortuately the male Hamptons are the only ones that pass this particular dna to each other.

Have you had any more discoveries? Did you know about the PA dna test?

Karl

I am researching my husband's family history and am stuck on Reason Hampton. This is what I have thus far:

1) Stuart Hall Hampton, Jr. -- His father was:
2) Stuart Hall Hampton (11/11/27) -- His father was:
3) Admiral Samson Hampton -- His father was:
4) Henry Tillman Hampton (DOB: 5/22/1899) -- His father was
5) Benjamin Hampton (DOB: 1847) -- His father was
6) Reason Hampton (DOB: 1803/South Carolina..moved to GA) wife's name either Martha or Margaret DOB: 1810 born SC

Right now I am stuck on Reason and his wife. One person on ancestry.com has her listed as Martha and Martha's father is Col. Wade Hampton I. Other people list her as Margaret (even though all US census' list her as Martha). I don't believe his wife was the daugher of Col. Wade Hampton I since it shows that Caroline Martha Hampton (Wade's daughter's full name) was married to John Smith Preston. Only way that she would have been married to Reason is if there were two marriages.

At any rate, anyone help that can be given in this quest would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Cindy Hampton
twohamptons@roadrunner.com

Thank you very much for the information and I will remove Germany from Williams birth place. I didn't think too much about the first names because my Reber line came from Germany and they have Adam and John in their children. Any way Elizabeth Beavers and John Hutchens children are wrong on this list i have proven them all the way to my son and you have the wrong children for them. I can send you the correct family if you want. Robert is another line not Elizabeth's and John so were most of the others. The Hutchens were numberous and they all named their children after each other. They are buried in Indiana Thank you again for your help and I will try to find Williams records during the revolution.

I know of a George Hampton born in 1896 and he had a daughter named Floella. My father's mother was a Potter and her mother was a Hampton (Eliza or Elizabeth).

George's father was William Henry (Uncle Dick) Hampton, born 1860.

I know my lineage of Hampton's lived in Swan Pond, which is just a stone's throw away from Barbourville, KY.

I hope this helps!

Fred and Gertrude Hampton of Arkansas

looking for sons of Fred Hampton or children of Gert's. he was born around 1914 and she in ca. 1913 Boone county Arkansas. Fred was a jeweler. WE heard he had a bunch of sons and lived around St Charles Missouri and Gert supposedly married and lived in Kansas. The family knows nothing more about them or their families. Their mother was Fern and dad was William Asbury Hampton, brother of my grandmother Ida. I have tracked down almost all of the families of the 10 Hampton siblings except for Asbury's kids and Nancy's.

I recommend reviewing the information on the Beavers DNA website.

http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=beaver...

I also have quite a bit on Capt Wm (my line) and his 1st cousin William John. Henry Hampton's wife, Sarah, was their 1st cousin - the daughter of William and Abigail Beavers.

You can also find detailed information on the 1st 2 Wm's mentioned above on my website:

http://gwwgen.com/index.html

Many of the lines have now been straightened out thru recent research and DNA testing. All old records, including a lot of what you find online is very confused.

To my knowledge, the only Wm who was in the Rev War was Capt Wm. Some have went into the DAR on Wm John but that line has proved faulty.

If you have any other questions, please let me know.
