Camilla Hampton Stigler, daughter of William and Sarah Tucker Hampton???

My great-grandmother was Camilla/Camella Hampton (Mar. 1836 - Aug. 1878); her husband was Isaac R. Stigler. Family tradition says that Camilla was the last child of William Hampton (Dec. 1782 - July 1845) and Sarah Wilson Tucker (about 1796 - about 1877), but I have never found any proof of her parentage. Can any of you possibly provide more information or tips? Thanks.

J F Hampton's wife of Knoxville, TN

I searching for evidence of the daughter of Wash W Whatley of Vernon Parish, LA, who I was told was named Lessie Mae. She would have been born 1905-1918 and in her brother Frank's obit of 1957 is identified as Mrs. J. F. Hampton of Knoxville. This may be a strange way of learning about her, but nothing else is working. In 1920 her mother had died and two brothers were living in the Methodist Orphanage in Vernon Parish; father Wash was living with his siblings. Just a mystery that has been bugging me for years.

Will (dob:1834) and Trina(dob:1848) Hampton came down from south carolina in between 1880 and 1910 and settled in Marion County,FL aka Summerfield and farmed over 500 acres. With them was 7 kids, starting with the oldest: Matha Ann Hampton(1863),Will Hampton jr.(1866), Elizabeth Hampton(1869),Abram Hampton(1871),Paul Hampton(1873),Laura Hampton(1877) and Jacob Hampton the youngest (1879). No one knows what happened to Matha Ann Hampton and Abram Hampton, maybe ran away and started there own family. It was said that Will Hampton Jr didn't want anything to do with his family anymore do to an arguement or something. I've heard he relocated to Titusville,fl and start a family. One family member came forth name Mickey Hampton. If anyone could help me locate the Hampton family, Please email me: Mrbossman352@aol.com

According to stories told to me by elder members of my family my great-great-great grandmother married a young man with this surname in Mississippi and may have later migrated to Louisiana. Additionally, I have been told that this grandmother may have been Cha'ta (Choctaw) Indian. This tribe has a rich history in Mississippi (Meridian) and surrounding areas. Other surnames associated with my family are Croft, Cross and Wright. Any info is GREATLY appreciated.

Hampton History

William Riley Hampton was b. 3-11-1813 Thur., Shakersville, Logan co., KY., s/o James and ? (Taylor) Hampton. He came to Illinois in 1834 when he was 21 years old. William met Nancy Ann Williams in Illinois and were married on 12-11-1834 Thur., Montgomery Co., Illinois. William and Nancy were the parents of 11 children. Four of their sons served in the rebellion. William was a farmer by occupation, devoting his entire life to the tilling of the soil and through his perserverance and energy he was able to provide a comfortable living for his family, saving them from many of the hardships and trials of pioneer life. "Uncle Riley" as he was called by his neighbors and friends, was one of the pioneer methodists of Illinois. He was ordained a deacon by Bishop Ames and was licensed to preach in the Methodist Episcapol Church. The family was ever prominent in all the work of the Church and identified with all religious enterprises. Their home for many years was the regular preaching place and the preacher's home in that community. It was chirfly through the influence and financial aid of the family that Mt. Pleasant Church of the circuit was built. William died 9-26-1893 Tuesday at his home in Donnellson, Illinois. He and Nancy had attended the Hillsboro Old Settlers Meeting 9-20th and were the oldest couple present who had lived on the same homestead in Montgomery Co., the longest time, he having lived on the farm where he died for 49 years. On the following Sun., he was suddenly stricken with an ailment to which he was subject and was helpless and speechless up to the time of his death. Thus passed away one who had long been associated with the agricultural development of Montgomery Co., Illinois. He was survived by Nancy and 5 children.

Wade Hamption and Sarah-Pittsylvania County, VA

I believe that I have located my great great great grandparents(90% accuracy). It always happens, when I am looking for one relative, I come across another one entirely by accident. (Not considering my paternal side, this line of relatives I thought would be the most difficult to trace.)

Thomas Coleman Broadnax is my grandfather(who I meet for the first time as a teenager). His parents were Lazarus Broadnax(born 1867) and Martha Ann Aikens Broadnax.

If any one see a connection notify me on this "followup board."
Thank You In Advance.
Martha Ann Aikens Broadnax's parents were Thomas and Wilmoth Aikens.

Wilmoth Aikens parents were Wade HAMPTON(white) and Sarah HAMPTON(black). According to the 1870 and 1880 Pittsylvania County, VA Census, he openly lived with his racially mixed family and claimed them, because they are listed as his children on the 1880 census.
Sarah Hampton is not listed with Wade Hampton on the 1880 census, which could be alot of reasons for this, or she died before the 1880 census.

His children, on the 1880 cnesus, were: Elizabeth, Willmouth, and Emily A.
His grandchildren listed: Mary and Virginia Hampton.

On the 1870 census does not show how they are related, the household is listed:
HAMPTON, Wade-age54~~~~Sarah Hampton-age40~~~~Boston Hampton-age19~~~~Elizabeth Hampton-age19~~~~Lyles Hampton-age14~~~~Martha Hampton-age12~~~~Sallie A. Hampton-age10~~~~Robert Hampton-age9~~~~Wilmoth Hampton-age7~~~~Emily A. Hampton-age5.

According to the 1840, 1850, and 1860 VA Census, Wade HAMPTON is listed only, and no family members are listed. I assumed that he might have had a white family before his black family.

My mother told me that Martha Ann Aikens was very bright looking, and her sister could pass as white. This explains why my grandfather, Thomas Coleman Broadnax(who is now deceased), was so light in his youth, and why so many of his relatives, in his photo album book looked white.

I am a descendant of Gen. Hampton. My father is a Hampton whose parents were from Virginia. His father was Troy Hampton. As I child, I recall my grandfather Troy talking about his English blood. At the time, I was too young to be amused. Later when I began to inquire about my ancestry, my father revealed some important facts, which has led me on my search. Everything he told me has checked out. I am also a gifted writer, working on my third book. I would like to connect with other writers or descendants of Wade Hampton from South Carolina. I am willing to share and exchange information.

The story is she wasadopted by an American couple.
Now I don't know any thing about her birth parents or adopted parents.
I don't know how she made it from Germany to the Untied States.
Sometimes I wonder if she really was adopted. I have some information that makes me wonder if she was a ward of the state.
I think she did live in Presque Isle,Mich.
She married William Hampton Sept 1883 in Bay County,Mich. They divorced. They had 4 boys,
I think she died about 1940 and is buried in Bently, Mich.
Greetings:

I am seeking information about ancestors of William HAMPTON b. April 17,
1892 presumably in Illinois (possibly Fayette of Marion County). His parents were Elizabeth MCKAIN and
William HAMPTON. William HAMPTON (jr.) married Maria D'HAVE in Dawson
(later Richland) County, Montana on April 17, 1913. William diappeared
before or shortly after the birth of their child, Richard W. HAMPTON on
August 21, 1913. Unfortunately, that is all the information I currently
possess.

If anyone has a match with either William HAMPTON, please let me know.

Thanks,

Michael Hampton
mhampton@hamptonenv.com
Austin, TX

DNA proves a connection to Canter Need help making it

We have a 37 out of 37 DNA marker match between a Canter and a descendant of Lawson Hampton (1814 NC-Tenn).

This means a common ancestor within the last 3-6 generations is quite likely.

Does anyone know about this..or can anyone give me a clue ?

The Canter is a native of Wilkes Cty, NC and has presumed he is a Canter for his 87 years on earth.
For quite some time now, the board has been busy discussing the two Andrews (CPT and COL). It seems to most that they are, in fact, two distinct individuals. Most concur. So based on this assumption, who are the ancestors of these two Andrews? If this has been stated, I beg forgiveness, but please share with us once again their ancestors.

Who are the presumed ancestors of Granville Andrew?
Who are the presumed ancestors of Rutherford Andrew?

Thanks in advance,

Yet another Andrew Hampton

Sylvester Hampton, Los Angeles

Ludwig, Ella A. History of the Harbor District of Los Angeles. California: Historic Record Company, Inc., no date given.

SYLVESTER HAMPTON
Page 480
Being the manager of a company that is constantly doing work for the improvement of the community by building highways, is the part of Sylvester Hampton, with the Dupuy Road Oil Company, a pioneer in that line and one among a few that remained to meet keen competition. He was born in Loretto, Nebraska, February 3, 1894, and is a son of George E. and Eliza Hampton, natives of Missouri. Both parents are living and now reside in Los Angeles, where the father is engaged in the real estate business. At one time he was a pioneer in Joplin, Missouri, in the lead and zinc mining district. He served several years on the school board of Los Angeles.
Sylvester Hampton was educated in the public schools of Los Angeles and shortly after graduating took up automobile work. He then made a trip to the east coast and was with the Good Roads Corporation of Kansas City, Missouri, for nine years. With an abundance of experience in road building, gained through observation and hard work, he returned to Los Angeles and entered the employ of the Besone road Oil Company, which is now known as the Ben T. Dupuy Road Oil Company. Mr. Hampton is manager of the company and has general charge of their entire business. They have completed the state highway between Corona, Delmar and Laguna Beach, also widened the Ridge route highway and will shortly finish another Laguna Beach project.
During the World war, Mr. Hampton was employed in the navy yard at Norfolk, Virginia, in the construction of dry docks to accommodate large vessels. He was later transferred to the Hog island shipyards, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in similar work.
On June 5, 1924, in San Bernardino, California, Mr. Hampton was married to Miss Luella Harper, a native of Colorado, and a daughter of Louis and Mary Harper, representatives of a well known family of Kansas. Mr. Hampton is an optimist and stands firm in his belief that the Harbor District will continue to prosper and expand. Although not a sportsman, he is fond of swimming and other outdoor sports, and he takes a great interest in home life as well as a deep interest in his business.
Hi, I am trying to trace my Great Grandpa's parents and farther back. This is the information I have so far. I do have one census record found but no more than that.

John David Hampton Born about 1888 per census or 1901 or 1902 per my dad.
One if his wifes was Mary or Catherine, maiden was Back or Pew/Pugh (spelling).
The other wife was Emma and no maiden name known.

He was born in Breathitt County is what we believe but he could have just lived there as a child.

His nick names were: John D and Rocky
His children I have are:
Stella (2 kids Pat & Judy)
Della (Died in Mt. Sterling, married George Alsept)
Arden (Died in Dayton Ohio)
Charles (my grandpa, my dads dad)(Died in Ohio)
and 2 others that died we believe before they were 12.

Thank you for any information. I am racking my brain and my dad has looked for years. He does have his social but it is packed. I am hoping when he give it to me it would help alot.
Thanks, Niki

I found the grave of The Hon. Moses Hampton in Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh, PA. He and many family members (including members of his wife’s family, the Millers) are buried in a family mausoleum in section 25. The only inscriptions on the outside are “Hampton” and “Miller”. I got the list of interments for the plot from the cemetery office. I assume the dates are death dates, but they may be interment dates. I have my correct lineage as follows so far:

James Arthur Hampton - b.1940 in TX

William Wade Hampton - b.1915 in OK

William Wade Hampton - b.1877 in IL

August/Augustus/Augustine Hampton - b.1835 in IL

I have found only 2 verifiable census records in 1870 and 1880 with August/Augustus/Augustine Hampton residing in East Saint Louis, IL and Beaver Creek, IL. Not sure of the 1850 record that only records himself in Madison, IL. Haven't been able to find his father/mother or siblings.

Anyone that can point me into the correct direction would be greatly appreciated.

Ollie Hampton - Illinois, 1890s

I was fortunate to have purchased an old autograph book at an antique sale in Springfield Illinois. The autograph book has several autographs, including one from Ollie Hampton. One page was signed on Feb 16 1893. The book belonged to a Rollie Bradley, who appeared to have lived in Mechanicsburg Illinois. If this is one of your ancestors, please contact me.

I am at a dead end and need some assistance. My 4th great grandfather & grandmother were James Lawrence & Racheal Hampton who were both born somewhere in SC. In 1850, Racheal is living in Lumpkin County, GA and her husband is dead. Rachel's mother, Tabitha Hampton, born 1780 in VA, is living with her. Near her is living William Hampton & Malinda and Thomas Hampton & Martha. I believe these Hampton's to be her brothers. Does anyone have any information on this line? A will that mentions tabitha hampton or any of these children would be great. Racheal, William & Thomas are listed as being born in SC in the early 1800's.

My email is bgrogan445@aol.com

Thanks,

Billy Grogan

Does anyone have a source for Judith Hampton's parent's names? I finally realized that there seems to be two schools of thought as to Judith's parents. I have her parents as Thomas Hampton and Abigail Laws, but others show here to be Thomas's sister. I believe Thomas Hampton's will mentions a daughter Judy, what about Thomas's father Jacob Hampton? Is there a will or deed for him that gives children's names?
