not related - for board info

Source Citation: Year: 1930; Census Place: Hendrum, Norman, Minnesota; Roll: 1109; Page: 4A; Enumeration District: 13; Image: 909.0.

Name Age
Martin Hamre 44
Clara Hamre 42
Heman Hamre 19
Curtis Hamre 17
Moselle Hamre 11
Lester Hamre 6
Melvern Hamre 4
================================
Hamre, Melvern Clair

MELVERN CLAIR HAMRE, 81, of San Bernardino, passed peacefully into eternal rest on March 19, 2008, surrounded by loved ones who will miss him dearly. Melvern was born on June 3, 1926, in Hendrum, Minnesota, to Martin Otto and Clara Josephine (Selness) Hamre. He graduated from Hendrum High School in 1944 and the day after his 18th birthday, began active duty in the United States Naval Reserves. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1946, he attended Concordia College in Moorehead, MN, for a year, and then enrolled in the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. Mel always said this course of events was guided by a higher hand, as it was there that he reconnected with Dorothy Christianson, a childhood friend, and on October 9, 1949, they were wed. Mel and Dorothy settled near Fargo, North Dakota and so on began their family. In the spring of 1960, seeking a new adventure and warmer climes, the family moved to San Bernardino, CA where Mel began working for Lazar Cadillac. In 1964, Mel accepted the position of Parts Department Manager at Hatfield Buick in Redlands where he daily demonstrated his strong work ethic, keen organization skills, and personal integrity. Mel retired from Hatfield's on May 17, 1991, a day chosen with a dual purpose. May 17 is Norwegian Independence Day and Mel, who was proud of his Norwegian heritage, never missed an opportunity to elicit a smile with a play on words. Mel was an active member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in San Bernardino for 47 years and enjoyed the game of baseball, pitching horseshoes, playing golf, and mostly, spending time with his family. Mel is preceded in death by his parents Martin and Clara and 3 brothers (Herman, Curtis, and Lester). He is survived by one sister, Mozelle Sosalla of Sac City, Iowa. He also leaves behind Dorothy Hamre, his devoted wife of 58 years, 5 children (Cathryn Tasker of Duarte, CA, James Hamre of San Bernardino, CA, Scott (Carol) Hamre of Calimesa, CA, Dianne Pavia of Loma Linda, CA, and Julie (Timothy) Ball of San Bernardino, CA), 5 grandchildren (Ryan Tasker, Kevin Tasker, Nicholas Hamre, Lillian Ball, and Noah Ball), several nieces and nephews and many beloved friends. Visitation will be held at Montecito Memorial Park and Mortuary in Colton, CA, on Monday, March 24, from 5 to 8 P.M. A Service of Committal will take place at the War Memorial in The Garden of Valor at Montecito on Tuesday, March 25 at 10:00 A.M., followed by a Memorial Service at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 5050 N. Sierra Way, San Bernardino, at 11:30 A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Lutheran Church of Our Savior.
Published in the San Bernardino Sun on 3/24/2008.

My wife's tree contains a Bertha M Hamre (b. 1883 in Wisconsin) who apparently had a brother Andrew who was born nine years earlier (1874) in Norway. Bertha was the second wife of Andrew A. Johnson (b. Wisconsin 1862-64 depending on which census I'm reading). All seem to be from the Dane County region.

Please contact me if you can share information on any or all of these people.

Thanks!
Bill

Hello other Hamres!

Hello other Hamres. I am a 21 year old Hamre. My grandfather, Alvin C. Hamre in California is really into doing our family tree. He has been back to both Norway and Sweden tracing our roots. Well, because of his intrest in our family, I also became interested. I love finding out about other Hamres. Until September of 1999, I knew that there were other Hamres but had never seen any anywhere. Well, while driving to Ohio, I saw an Illinios liscence plate, HAMRE 1. Since then, I just explore and see what I can find. I have since found this site. If any Hamres want to chat, let me know. If you want to see another Hamre, check out Hamrenet.com. It is my dad's business. His name is Lee Hamre. This site is not finished yet, but you can still see him and my cousin Brian Hamre. I just wanted to say Hello! Talk to you all later! Take care!

I am looking for info on the above Barb.. Hamre, my great grandmother, she married a Casper Kuick, last known residence, was in Ray ND, where she signed for my grandmother to be married (Cecilia Kuick m Jessie Spitzer) in 1919 Devils Lake ND, if anyone has connections to the areas mentioned, and can help, please let me know, as I've about given up hope of finding anything on her. The only story I ever heard of her, was she had a huge white horse that she would ride over the prairies, not much to go on. I know she was divorced from Casper, he had some type of mental breakdown, and was in Jamestown mental hospital, died there I believe before 1930.
thank for your time
jean

New information!
Gullick Gullickson son of Gullik Gislesen Hamre and Joran Michelsdatter Moen. Conflicting stories as to IF they were married. Gullick was born on Dec. 4, 1818 at the Hamre Farm, Flesberg, Buskerud, Norway.
Gullik Gislesen Hamre was born Sept.15, 1765 and died Dec. 20, 1878 in Washara County, WI.
Gullik was married but we are unsure as to who as there has been associations with three different women! We have to sort out of all this. Gullik's father was Gidsle Juulsen Hamre and mother Karri Gulliksdatter, Karri's parents were Gullik Knudson and Sonner Kittlesdatter. Gidsle's father was Juul Gulliksen Hamre and mother was Anne Gilesen. Juul's father was Gullich Olsen and mother Giertrud Ellefsen. Gullich's father was Ole Weteren. I have some dates and places of births.
