OLD WOODSMAN DIES EASTER
Webster Springs April 2
The master woodsman who so typified the "free mountaineer" that his figure was portrayed in bronze on the West Virginia state-house grounds, died last night in his home.
Eli "Rimfire" Hamrick, 77 year-old forrester, hunter, and guide, had been ill for 2 weeks. He had lived in virtual retirement for the last two years.
Tales of Rimfire's exploits, ------- ran for Republican nomination to House of Representatives in Webster Co.,----- catch phrase, "You have me there in bronze, now send me there in person."-------
Rimfire was born in Bergoo, Webster Co., WV. One of 14 children born to Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Hamrick. two brothers are Felix Hamrick of Rodnay, O., and Rev. Simpson Hamrick of Salem, O., 1 sister Mrs. Cameron Beale of Elkins, WV

I found this in my grandmothers scrap book. I left alot of the middle out, I put in the most important parts. I didn't know if anyone was interested in it. I'm not sure of the date, but it is on the same page as Pre-Pearl Harbor clipping of her brothers.

If anyone would like a copy of the clipping, leave a message on the board and I will try to get it out on Mon the 22.

Angela

I have been doing family research for one of my daughters and found a conflict (more than one but am still working through this) regarding the children of William Grant "Bearskin Bill/Billy G" Hamrick. The info here shows that he was married 3 times but all six children came from one marriage.

According to my mother (a granddaughter of Billy G) only 2 of the children (Lennie and Hughling) were from the marriage to Catherine Hamrick while the others were from the marriage of Elizabeth Baldwin Workman.

In case anyone is searching that path.

Hulda M. Hamrick, Hinds Co., MS, census 1900

Hulda M. Hamrick, born Feb 1837 AL, was listed in the 1900 Hinds Co., MS federal census as Housekeeper at the Baptist Orphanage. She was a widow with one living child. I am fairly confident she is the same person as Hulda M. HATHERLY, enumerated in the 1850 census for Dekalb Co., AL, and in the 1860 census for Walker Co., AL. She is apparently a daughter of A. B/R. Hatherly, born about 1808 in NC and his wife Nancy, born about 1809 in SC. Other children listed in these two censuses include Trecy C. (b c1829 NC);Anita (b c1831 NC); Malissa (b c1835 NC); John W. (b c1841 AL); and Jeremiah A. (born c1843 AL). So far I've been unable to find any members of this family in the 1870 or 1880 censuses, except for Jeremiah who was living in Cullman Co., AL in 1880, surname listed as Heatherly. I'm tracking the staff and residents in the early years of the Mississippi Baptist Orphanage and would be grateful for any information about Hulda M. (Hatherly?) Hamrick.

Hamrick Database error

Hey Cousins! I am still on my free 2 weeks of Ancestry.com. I wish I could afford a full year but I am a Hamrick, after all =)
My name is Ed Stevenson. My mom was Theresa Hamrick. Her dad was Thomas Clarence Hamrick and his father was Jonathan Hamrick.
Jonathan;s wife is the problem

I have found 5 Mississippi Jones.
One reported on all the databases as my great grandmother born in 1878, is a man. So is the one born in 1888. Of the other three, one female was 7 years old when my Gramdfather was born and lived in Texas so I am guessing she is out. The other 2 were 33 and 40 when my gandfather was born, and my great grandfather was 15. All those Mississippi's listed in hte census were listed as black.
I have seen a picture of my grandfather and with his flaming red hair I can say nobody could look less half black than he. (My grandmother on the other hand could pass as black easily. Go figure)
My mind slips. I am just not sure if Mississippi is actually related to the Hamrick family at all.
And this leaves me to believe that Jonathan;s 2nd wife Bertha Davis could have been his first?
Ideas?

W.(1928-1994)
- John(1957-living)
I have documentation from Elijah M. Sr. on but not for the first through the third generations. Also I am trying to put together a history of the immgration from Virginia to North Carolina. All of my ancestors lived and died in Old Tryon (now Rutherfordton and Cleveland Counties) where we live today. Please help make sure my line is correct in the first through thrid generation. Everything from Elijah M. Sr. is from the family Bible held by my motherinlaw.
John Dilwin HAMRICK 1874 - 1956 seeking death record & obit

John Dilwin HAMRICK, Jr. was b. 7 Sep 1874 in Humbolt, Allen Co., KS to John Dilwin HAMRICK and Sarah M. LEONARD HAMRICK. He was a young entrepreneur in Kansas City, Mo. where our family lived. He moved on to Seattle where he became famous for the theatres he owned - the Blue Mouse being one of those. I have found references to his death in 1956 but have been unable to locate a death notice or obituary. He might well have died outside Seattle. I'd be glad for some help. John Dilwin HAMRICK was my great uncle and I was raised by his niece.

Walter Dunn HAMRICK, son of John Dillwin HAMRICK and Sarah Marantha LEONARD HAMRICK, married Effia Sabina "Sibbie" MARTIN. They are in the 1900 census in KC, Jackson Co. Mo. In 1909 Sibbie died and in the 1910 census Walter is with his two young daughters. By the 1920 census the girls are married but I can't find Walter. The name HAMRICK may be so impossibly misspelled or indexed that it's beyond recognition but I thought it worth asking if anyone has seen Walter. By the 1930 census he had remarried and was living in Los Angeles where he died in 1952. Unable to locate obit to date.

POW/MIA Korean War, HAMRICK

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Marion County, West Virginia as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: HAYWARD J HAMRICK, JR.
Born: Sept. 17, 1928, Caucasian
Date of loss: Sept. 3, 1950, MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Hamrick family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Who Are the Ancestors/Descendants of Walter W. Goss b: 1895?

Walter W. Goss b: 1895 appears to be a part of the John Goss line of Virginia. His father was Benjamin Franklin Goss b: 1873 in GA and his grandparents may have been James Goss and Sarah Bush. Benjamin Franklin Goss reportedly married Addieville French and Estelle Hambrick or Hamrick. Some of his other children included Curtis Goss, Douglas Goss, and Coplin/Copeland Goss. The family ended up in Jones Co., MS. Their family line goes back to Stewart and Webster Counties in Georgia. The extended family previously came out of Orangeburg and Barnwell Counties of SC about 1831. Of interest, Benjamin Franklin Goss b: 1860 in MS and Mary Etta "Fannie" White b: 1858 in AL, both subsequently of Holmes Co., MS, also had a son by the name of Walter Goss b: 1887 in Mississippi. Headstone reads "On Earth to Bloom in Heaven - Son of B. F. & M. E. Goss."

I am trying to locate a death record for my gggrandfather William Hamrick aka Bill Frizzly. He was born in January 1835 to David and Elizabeth Hamrick and married Margaret Gregory March 2, 1855. I have that he died in 1901 but have never found a death record or place of burial.
Also, I have found that a phoebe Wolverton married a William Hamrick-does anyone have any info to see if it is my gggrandfather?
