Classification: Query
Surnames: Hamson of Utah
I made a mistake on a date of birth for Roxey (Roxanna) Christena Wight Hamson born in Brigham City, Utah May 4, 1860 not 1880.
More info about Joseph Smith Hamson's children:
Roxanna Luella Hamson born 1878
Ada Christena Hamson born 1879
Joseph Sylvester Hamson born 1882
Maude Hamson born 1888
Layfayette Hamson born 1895
Stanley Hamson born 1900
George Frederick's children -
Sarah Ann Hamson born 1845 died 1850
Joseph Smith Hamson born 1848
Hyrum Smith Hamson born 1849
George Frederick Hamson Jr. born 1851 - 1st child born in Brigham City, Utah
Heber Kimball Charles Hamson born 1853
Brigham Young Hamson born 1855
Fedebion Hamson born 1857
Jedidiah Mills Hamson born 1859
Mary Elizabeth Hamson born 1860
Samuel Henry Hamson born 1862
Eliza Jane Hamson born 1864
Franklin Richards Hamson born 1866
Francis Adaline Hamson born 1870
Boletta Morrison was the other polygamist wife and she had 9 children with George F. Hamson.
It is rumored that there may have been other still births or sudden death after birth that was not recorded in the early Pioneer days.
Joseph's father George Frederick Hamson was also a known polygamist ( 2 wives) in Box Elder county Utah in 1851 - 1887, he was arrested along with other polygamist's like Lorenzo Snow, James Ibsen, James Bywater, Peter Forsgren & John Burt.
Those families went into hiding for the most part until things calmed down or their other wives died. Sad as it may seem, some families will never be able to trace their Pioneer heritage because of polygamy. Alot of the descendants of those known polygamists never would talk about their parents or other relatives for fear of embittered feelings towards them.
Polygamy was against the Law of the Land, but these people were following what the LDS church officials were guiding them to do. They were some of the most upstanding citizens Utah had and they broke the frontier for others to follow.
To this day I am surrounded by some of their ancestors and they are all wonderful people. Not polygamists of course, but a strong hardy bunch of Sons and Daughters of Utah Pioneers. They have made Box Elder Utah their home and won't be moving away in their lifetimes.
If I can help you in any way, please contact me!
