I am looking for anyone who has information about Olive Hamson. She married Lorenzo J. Sparks in 1895.

I found her on the 1930 census in the Utah State Hospital listed as insane. In the 1920 census she is living in Ogden with her husband and children.

Does anyone know why she ended up in the mental hospital? When was she admitted and did she die there? She died in 1942..

If anyone has any information about her, please contact me.

Thelma Hamson

Greeting to all Hamsons. Now, put on your thinking caps. Have you ever run across that name? It is my wifes Grandmother born, THELMA HAMSON 28 Jan 1894. Her Ex-husband was taking a couple of the kids from Montana to California back in the 1920's. As they were passing Brigham City, UT he mentioned "This is where your mother was born".
That's all the clues I have. She evidently never talked to the kids about her early life. Any help would have my gratitude, forever.

I'm looking for any Hamsons doing geneology work. But obviously we are lazy or something cause I'm officially talking to myself. Anyways, I'm Adam David Hamson, son of Donald Jean Hamson. I'm the youngest of 5. My siblings are; Christy (Crandell), Julie (Barson), Susan, Joseph Lynn Hamson, me. My sister Susie has done our geneology but I'm in the process of getting a copy. Our line traces back to Greece (in one bloodline). We have a picture of the ruler of greece a few generations back who is our direct forefather. My family is prodominantly LDS. If any of this info. seems to ring a bell please feel free to contact me at my e-mail. I'm away from home quite often , so please be patient with my responses. If NONE of this info. seems familiar, remember that just the fact that your name is HAMSON might be a big enough step forward in helping each other, seeing how there is only a handful of us around. Thank you. ~ Adam

Boletta Mortensen Hamson Death

September 2, 1909 – Box Elder Paper

After a lingering illness of some months, Mrs. Boletta M. Hamson was released from her suffering last Monday night at 10:30 o’clock. The cause of death was general debility and dropsy, which finally reached the aged lady’s heart causing death.

Mrs. Hamson is undoubtedly the pioneer Scandinavian lady of Brigham City, having resided here for many years. No complete record of her life has been kept, so the date of her arrival in this city could not be learned, but those who know her say she was one of the oldest inhabitants.

Deceased was born in Denmark on September 15th, 1833. She accepted the gospel in her native land, emigrating soon after, and made this city her home upon arrival in Utah.

Sometime in the fifties she became the plural wife of George F. Hamson, who was one of the first five men to locate in Brigham City. From that union ten children were born, five of whom survive their mother.

Mrs. Hamson passed through the trying scenes incident to pioneer life and endured many hardships, thru all of which she has remained true to her convictions and friends. She was a noble woman, not one to appear in public and take a leading part, but she faithfully played her role in life’s theatre and the world is better for her having lived in it.

She has left a record that her children should be proud to perpetuate, and has now been called home to her reward. May she rest in peace to await the call of the faithful when the trump shall sound on the morning of the first resurrection.

Funeral services were held in the First ward meeting house yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Bishop Watkins presiding. The speakers were as follows: Wm. Horsley, Jonah Mathias, Bishop Watkins, N. L. Hansen and President Oleen N. Stohl.

Beautiful and appropriate music was furnished by the ward choir.
