Hello Duncan,

Thank you very much for your reply. If John Dowling did serve in Afghanistan and is missed off the medal roll, then he should definitely be on the database. I checked the roll, and you're quite right - no Dowling.

Do you have any documentary evidence of his presence at Peiwar Kotal, eg. a copy of the muster roll or his medal and clasp entitlement from his service record?

You're spot on about the climate - the stats alone tell the story there, 74 officers killed in action, 64 died from exposure or illness (and that's just the officers - nearest numbers at hand).
