Hi,
My name is Perri Cole Llewellyn and I saw my husband's great grandmother was a Hanahoe (they may have spelled it Hannaho or Hannahoe). I wonder, if I give you some details (and I have many), if you would let me know if this section of the family sounds familiar? This is a lot of info. - I'll try and make it simple:
Relatives say these people were from Co. Mayo, but John Hannaho may have originally been from Northern Ireland...
John Hannaho married Catherine Gilboy (she was from Co. Mayo). Catherine's siblings included: John, Mary, Ellen, Elizabeth, and Bryon/Bryan Gilboy. The siblings, and Catherine's mother (Gilboy, first name unknown) came to the US (Youngstown, Ohio), but Catherine stayed in Ireland and married John Hannaho.
John Hannaho and Catherine Gilboy Hannaho's children included (dates are rough. All of the Hannaho children came to the US except their daughter, Catherine, who stayed in Ireland and married Patrick Gallagher:
Catherine Hannaho b. 9/7/1870 Crosmolina Parish married Patrick Gallagher
Ann(a) Hannaho married Patrick Madden from Co. Cork
Mary Hannaho b. 1865 married John Dixon
Bridget Hannaho b. 1864 married Edward Dooher
Maggie Hannaho married Thomas McHugh
Ellen Hannaho b. 1872 married Michael McHugh (brother of Thomas, above)
John Hannaho
Catherine Hannaho (the second Catherine to stay in Ireland) married Patrick Gallagher . Their children included: Martin, Michael, Margarate, Bee(?), John, Mary and two others. As of 1940, the first four listed were living in England and John was a tailor in Co. Leitrim... Mary Gallagher (married??) stayed in Ireland.
Now, one more thing, or bit of family news (from pre-1900) that may have made it back to Ireland, and that may spark someone's memory... Mrs. Gilboy (first name unknown), the mother of Catherine Gilboy Hannaho born about 1920?? (the first Catherine I mentioned above, who stayed in Ireland) also emmigrated to the US (Ohio) and was killed by a train in Youngstown, Ohio near the Brier Hill Works steel mill (Arlington neighborhood)...
Anyway, I hope something rings a bell with someone looking for the Gilboys... I'm trying to find the Gilboy line as well as the Hannaho, (and the Patrick Madden line in Co. Cork - yeah, good luck, huh?).
I read the posting by Michael Hannaho and emailed him, but it was retruned undeliverable... I read about his family home near Crosmolina...I wonder if that's what my husband's now deceased aunt saw on a trip to Co. Mayo about 16 years ago in 1990 - she told someone she had seen a house with the Hanahoe name on it!! Just in case anyone is reading this who lives in the house...and in case she knocked on the door and talked to anyone (and in case they remember), her name was Mary Madden Barnes, daughter of Anna Hannaho Madden... Mary was travelling with her daughter Carol. Hey, ya never know...
I know about the heritage center in Crosmolina, and I will go there in May when we will be in Ireland - but, in the meantime, I just thought I'd see if these people sound familiar to you... They have to be related somehow...
Any help will be MUCH appreciated.
Kind regards,
Perri
