I lived in South Bend from 1982 to 1986. I worked at the University of Notre Dame. My Grandfather died in the 50's, as a result of a fall in the steelmills.
I seem to remember that my grandfathers brother was not to reliable with other people's things ($$$)and went north from Michigan which means Canada to me.
My Grandfather and Grandmother came from Czechoslovakia, the Bratislava area. Still have relatives there. As a matter of fact my uncle Frank (the last in my Dad's family) went to Europe just October to visit them. He lives in Griffith, Indiana. If you write him, tell him your stories. He likes to remenince.
