Hanby family Y-chromosome DNA project

Hello!

I have established a Hamby/Hanby family Y-chromosome DNA project at FamilyTreeDNA. We have two members so far, and I invite all Hanby men to join. The project has several purposes, among which to help people in their research when the paper trail has gone cold. One line that has interested many are the descendants of the Bishop William Hanby from Ohio and his relation to the Hanbys of New Jersey, which is currently unproven. I'd also like to work out the relation between the Hanbys of the northern USA to the Hamby families of the southern USA and beyond to England. The site below has all the information including pricing for the tests and such. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Hamby%2fH...

Thanks,

Grant Hamby
Re: Hanby Loose Leaves in Oconto, Wisconsin

I am the great-granddaughter of Franz Ludwig (Frank Louis) Hanby, son of John James and Sophia (Leopold) Hanby. I found the baptism records of all the JJ Hanby children at the Stockbridge WI Lutheran Church several years ago (the minister there was kind enough to send me this information through the mail). There were 16 or 17 children in all and Sophia's mother's name was also Sophia. All the children were given Prussian birth names on their baptisms. The census records hold a great deal of information. My family was particularly shocked to find so many relatives on that side since my grandfather didn't talk about any of them. I do know that around 1912 to 1915, two or three of the brothers and their families moved first to the Spokane area and then Tacoma area of Washington (Frank and Charles for sure). Frank married Flossie Hildred Andrews and had two children - Floyd Rufus in 1908 and a girl (name escapes me at the moment) in 1915. Floyd married Nettie Louise Robinson and had two children - Wayne Gilbert and Yvonne Dorane Hanby (my mother). Frank died around 1942 while working for the railroad in Washington but his daughter, my great aunt, is still alive and living in the Seattle area.

John Hanby & Catherine Fulkerson of Washington Co., Virginia, looking for grandchildren of their daughters.

Does anyone have any information on the daughters of John & Catherine Hanby, of Washington Co., Virginia?

The 1850 census has a Wesley Hartsock, age 16, Farming, living with her and a Matilda Goats?, in Washington Co.

The 1840 census shows Catherine Hanby, as head of household, in Washington Co., Virginia. There is 1 male under 5, 1 male 15 to 20, 1 male 30 to 40, 1 female 5 to 10, 2 females 30 to 40 and 1 female 60 to 70. I am thinking that her daughter and family may be living with her, and that the male under 5 may be Wesley Hartsock. Can any one help me out here?

Wesley Hartsock, Isaac Wesley Hartsock, changed to Hartsook about 1880, was born in Washington Co., Virginia. His father was William Hartsook or Hartsock, born in Virginia, his mother's name is unknown, but was born in Virginia.

Can anyone HELP me out? For as usual, I have hit a brick wall. Any help will be appreciated, no matter how little!

Thank you!
Barbara

I'm trying to locate a James Hanby (sp?) who served in Viet Nam in 1964 with 101st, and again in 1968 with (probably) the 1st Inf. Div. It's terribly important to us, since a Bill Morrell, who remembers Mr. Hanby from those times (but not much else) is my husband and is in poor health. This health problem could turn out to be fatal (I hope not) but if I could locate Mr. Hanby, it sure would help.
Oma Faye Morrell/O'Shaunessy
Chad:
From what I'm finding, slowly, but surely, most, if not all of the Hanby's in the Delaware Valley are related one way or another. I was born in Philly, and I know Francis was, as well. Contact me at genealogy@scoop0901.net and we can compare notes, if you'd like.

-dave

Perquiman Co NC HENBY Family

Although your post is an old one, I hope that you are still researching your Henby family. My maternal great grandmother was Mary Ellen Henby (b. 1867), a daughter of William B. Henby b 5.18.1833 Perquimans Co., NC. William mar. (1) Catherine J Brooks and (2) Mary Emily Hill in Indiana. William's parents were John and Mary (Bogue) Henby. According to the Heiss Walnut Ridge MM, Rush Co., IN, John died and Mary and several children came to Indiana. By 1.16.1836 they were charter members of Walnut Ridge MM. Could we be cousins? I'd be happy to share the descendants of Mary Ellen (Henby (Kyser) and in turn would love to know more John & Mary and the Henby family in North Carolina.
Thanks so much.
Bonnie Lyons
Indiana

I am seeking information on my great-great-grandmother, Martha Ann Handby/Hanby (b. 1 Aug 1840 in Bentonville, Arkansas; d. 28 Sep 1901 in Ray County, Missouri). She was the daughter of Louise Benton (b. ?; d. ?) and Unknown Handby (b.?; d. ?). The city of Bentonville, Arkansas was supposedly named for Louise Bentons' brother.

Martha Anne Handby married Jess or Jesse Crain (b. ? in New York State; d. abt 1860 ?). Jess Crains' given name might have been Jasper. Their children were Mary (Polly) Crain (b. 4 Mar 1857 in ?; d. 5 May 1917-1918 in ?) and Jasper Newton Crain (b. 1 Aug 1859 in North Carolina; d. 28 Jun 1916 in Vinita, Craig County, Oklahoma).

Mary (Polly) Crain married Henry Hays, Jr. Their children were Dora, Warren, Jim, Ase, Ella, Anne, Ola, Oba, Nellie, and Arpha.

Jasper Newton Crain married Florence Isobel Sneed (b. 17 Jul 1863 in Braymer, Ray County, Missouri; d. 29 Nov 1913 in Vinita, Craig County, Oklahoma). Their children were Fairies Ely, Lura Pearl, Silas Cornelius, Cornelius Elbert, Esther Mary Anna, Cornelia, Hester Marie, Eva, Mearl Jasper and Berl Bob.

Fairies Ely Crain was my paternal grandfather.

Do any of these names look familiar?
