My father was in the Marine Corps in 1955-1959 and he spent alot of time in the Philippines. I know that you posted this message over 9 years ago...but I was just looking around on the computer and found your post. My fathers name was Charles Hanford. I am hopeful that you will contact me if you'd like more information. Do you have any pictures? If you have one, please send and I will confirm if we are speaking of the same person.

Belle (COOPER) HANFORD

Belle was the second child of John Albert COOPER (1822-1899). Nothing is yet known of Belle's mother, or whom Belle married beyond his surname, HANFORD. She had seven siblings, Jennie, Mae, Laura, George, Louis, Frank, and Benjamin. Firm dates apply only for Louis, b. 1853, d. 1906, and an apparent death date for Laura in 1941. I have information for her father's 9 siblings and their marriages, and some descendants. I also have information on her grandparents, the earliest known ancestors in our line: David and Martha (HINKLE) COOPER.
Deborah Hanford (b. 1793) was the daughter of Ebenezer Hanford (1757-1833) & Lucretia Hanford (1761-1829).

I doubt that her sister Lucretia Hanford (b. after 1790) was married to Thomas H. Seymour, gov. of Connecticut, because he was "a lifelong bachelor" (Connecticut Historical Society). I've updated the information:

http://www.conley.de/amerika/dokumente/1921_genealogy_of_con...

Hi Mark

I'm, Kate, the list admin. It's nice to meet you :-).

I don't know if you have seen this, but this link goes to a page with adoption links on the Cyndi's List website. http://www.cyndislist.com/adoption.htm

A lot of the links seem to be for more recent adoptions than your grandfather's possible one, but there are few which cater for people looking for older adoptees so you might be able to find out if the story is true.

Sorry, I can't be more help but hopefully another board member will be able to offer some advice.

Kate

These are all my relatives...Charles is my grandfather and my father was Charles Hanford JR. He and my mother had a successful Nursery Business at the end of WW2 and all the housing was being built in and around for returning soldiers.
Morris had settled with his wife and son Chipp here in Independence..the daughter married and went to live in Nebraska...They were Yankees in a town run by southerners...Independence Missouri....In that way because of the nature of Independence it the chism created by people living here on both sides of the slave issue it was not easy socially..so they made their success a business issue..and were workaholics...This nature of working hard still runs in our family. My mother was a Walker-Wakefield.. Olive LEACH.... Illinois)On the Musser side we have the names larsen and Dosier..or Dozier... German and (french??)

Just thought I'd give the Message Board a shot whilst here.

I'm sure it's the same Family as George's brother Charles is staying with the Family in 1891 & DOB match.

I would love to hear if you have any Birth/Death/Marriage Docs relating to this side of the Tree. Only to confirm Parents of William as I have the Family as Harford earlier on.

Look forward from hearing from you.
Best Wishes.
Jo.

I am researching my Grandmother's family. She was Florence Elizabeth Hanford born circa 1876 in Suffolk, married 1899 to Albert Ernest Gasson in London. She gave birth to 9 children 6 of whom survived to adulthood. I am the youngest daughter of her youngest surviving daughter Mary, (now deceased). I believe she had 1 brother Alfred?. Any information on her parents/relatives on the Hanford side gratefully received.
Many thanks,
Jenny Warren

I've since found Fanny, wife of Edwin Cobb in 1850, Livingston county, New York and she is born 1809--probably related but seems a bit young to be my John's sister, unless the family was large and they were oldest and youngest of the family. Edward Hanford referred to him as "Uncle Cobb" but there may have been some other relationship.

HANFORD Hephzibah

Hi, I am looking for some information about my g-g-g grandparents. Her daughter Harriet HANFORD was born in Edinburgh around 1830, she later married an Alfred Thomas WAYNE in Nottingham. However, I am unable to find any solid information about her parents, especially her mother.

Her father appears to be a William HANFORD born in Portsmouth about 1801, he went on to serve with the 3rd Dragoon Guards.

Her mother was called Hephzibah, and was born in Alford, Lincolnshire also about 1801. She turns up on several later censuses, but I am unable to find out anything about her prior to 1851, including the date and place of her marriage, or date and place of her birth. In fact, from what I can gather no Hephzibahs of a matching age were born in Alford, Lincs.

If anyone has come across a HANFORD marriage to a Hephzibah I would really love to hear from you.

Kate

Re: Jeffrey or Hugh Hanford

Eglin Hatherly had a brother Timothy who died in Scituate andf left a will. This will has been used to support the claim that Elizabeth Hanford married Nicholas Wade. This marriage is also cited in Briggs, History and Genealogy of the Briggs Family as occurring when Elizabeth was 21 yrs. old. This couple had eight children: John, Elizabeth, Thomas, Nathaniel, Joseph, Susanna, Hannah, and Nicholas.

Also, in this will, only two children listed as Foster: Timothy and Elizabeth. The Scituate VR's as well only have these two listed (two Timothys; one bap. Mar. 7, 1635/36 and the other bap. Apr. 22, 1638; so I assume the first one died). Elizabeth is mentioned only in marrying Ephrim Hewett on Nov. 9, 1668.

At the time of the will, Lettuce is married to Edward Jenkins, and Susanna to William Brookes (reference to former husband, but not mentioned). Margaret's children Fear, John and Mercy Robinson are mentioned as children of Isaac (she had died). Thomas Hanford is also mentioned.

In January, 1780, the administrators of the confiscated estate of Joseph Hanford of Fairfield, and of William Nichols of Waterbury, asked the General Assembly for certain instructions. In 1777 the town of Wallingford voted "That the families of all those who are convicted of Toryism and the heads of all the families that have absconded to Lord How, they and their families shall be removed to Lord How. Also voted that the selectmen of said town secure the estates of all those persons that are inimical to the States of America."

I am not related to this family, just passing on this information, which comes from a webpage called "The Tories of Connecticut" The link for the site is listed below.
Joyce

http://www.rootsweb.com/~ctahgp/tories-of-ct-pt-1.htm
