Hanger Funeral Friday 2 p.m.
Robinson Hanger Dies at Home Here Wednesday at Noon
Funeral services for Robinson Hanger, 68, whose death occurred yesterday at noon at his home on West Virginia Avenue, will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the familiy residence by Rev. J. McD. Lacy, pastor of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Hanger, one of the well known citizens of this county, was born near Staunton, Va., and in his early youth moved with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Alexander Hanger, into Randolph county. He had been a resident of Elkins for more than 40 years. His death resulted from an illness of diabetes.
The deceased first married Miss Ardena Chenoweth and to this union two children were born, one of whom is Mrs. Mary Goff, living in Charleston. After Mrs. Hanger's death, he married her sister, Miss Sara Jane Chenoweth. To this union were born seven children, six of whom are living and are as follows: Virgil and Luther of Elkins; Harry of South Charleston; Daisy Frances, Laura and Bessie, all at home.
He is also survived by three brothers, Charles of Elkins; J.F. of Arnold Hill; Arthur of Lee Bell; and three sisters: Mrs. S.E. Tiffany and Mrs. L.V. Roy of Elkins, and Mrs. F.L. Daniels of Glenmore.
Interment by F.E. Runner will be made in Maplewood Cemetery.
[unknown paper, probably The Inter-Mountain, Elkins, WV, 11 May 1932]
Note: Robinson Hanger was born 10 May 1864 and died 15 Dec 1932. He was the son of William A. Hanger and Maggie Schutterle, and he was brother to my great-grandmother, Laura V. Hanger Roy. I have found his name in most records as Robinson, although one occasion as Robert (his daughter's marriage announcement), birth in Augusta Co. as John, 1870 census in Randolph Co. as John R., and even one census as Roberson. I suppose his proper name was John Robinson Hanger. He was most likely named after his mother's father, John Schutterle, and his father's father, Robinson Hanger. The two Chenoweth sisters he married, Ardena and Sarah Jane (Jennie), were daughters of Jacob Chenoweth & Caroline Collett Caplinger.
The Hanger line here is Robinson < William A. < Robinson < George < Peter < Johann Melchoir < Hans Cunrad Hengerer
I am interested in sharing information on any of these families.
