TEHACHAPI, Calif. - Paul Hankins, 79, of Tehachapi, formerly of Muscatine, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at his home.
Memorial services will be at Goleta Valley Church in Goleta, Calif. The Rev. Wayne Nonoshita will officiate.
A graveside service will be at Klein Cemetery in Muscatine with military rites by the VFW. The Rev. Don Swanson of the First Baptist Church will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Hospice in Mr. Hankins memory.
Mr. Hankins was born Nov. 8, 1921, in Muscatine, the son of Grace and Charles Hankins. He married Shirley Valentine of Wellington, New Zealand on June 12, 1943. They moved to Santa Barbara, Calif. in Aug. 1949 where they raised five children. She died. He then married Bea Cloonan on May 19, 1980.
He graduated from Muscatine High School. He served with the 2nd Marine Division in the South Pacific during World War II.
He owned Hankins Automotive Service for 18 years, retiring in 1975. He served multiple terms as president of the State Chapter of Automotive
Service Council (ASC) and Independent Garage Owners Association (IGO).
Survivors include his wife, Bea; their children, Mike Hankins, Patricia Bielsky, Bonnie Jones, Cindy Ellman, Colleen Hankins, Jeannie Calderon, and Bob Cloonan; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a niece, Dianna Harbaugh of Muscatine.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley; his parents, Grace and Charles Hankins; his brothers, Sela, Leon and Fred Hankins; and a sister, Grace Hankins.
