Since I first posted my message I have discovered that my William Hanna was born about 1799-1803 in Ireland. What part of Pa. is your William Hanna from? My William did have a son William, but he would have been born about 1847.

Dawn

I have family that moved to Camden, NJ from PA in late 1920s, early 1930s. Specifically an Edwin & Clara Hanna (with children: Margaret, Walter, and Richard).
Also, Charles & Miriam Hanna (with children: Philip) moved in the 1950s-1960s to Elizabeth, NJ.
Hope this helps!

I am going through the married Gillespies starting with A

Alfred married a Hart I think. COusin Hart is in Amsterdam near my family home. William James Gillespie, born 1885 and Lockhart Hart are involved. Lockhart is probably the son of George Hart and ELizabeth Dilworth of Lisnamintry and related. May be related to Oliver Gillespie and Elizabeth Dynes, but I don't know. Wm. James Gillespie visits James Hart in Amsterdam related to my Ballygardin Harts and Ballydougan Dynes.

Ann Gillespie married to Joseph Lyness of Drumgor, Presby dau ELiza and Jane 1827, 1822. Possible relationship through Lyness. Can't trace Lyness line well.

John Gillespie possibly born 1909 but don't know , married Annie Thompson and had children George and Samuel. Annie is dau of Joshua of Bleary. Amsterdam ties.

Another Gillespie from Ballygargin married Sarah Ann Kew which sounds unfamiliar as if that is really Kerr misread. Children Thomas 1862, Ellen 1865, Samuel Joseph 1870 and George 1867

Joseph Gillespie 1828-1914 married Martha Ferguson died before 1901, children Mary Jane 1859, Oliver 1862 possibly Oliver above, Rachel 1867, George 1869, Joseph 1872 d. 1873
Probably my relative Samuel Porter was the executor of Joseph's will, relationship unknown.

Oliver Gillespie and Mary Smth have Rosetta 1868, Lydia 1866, Anna Maria 186? ?setha 1957 don't know where he lived except Co.Armagh

Oliver Gillespie b abt 1847 m. Elizabeth Dynes b abt 1853 m. 1875 children Mary Ann 1879, Robert Henry 1877 Wm. J 1884, Joseph 1887, Sarah Mary 1890, Margaret 1892, Emma 1894, George Alfred 1897

Samuel Gillespie of Portadown area which often includes Ballygargin. Had dau Mary Ann 1898 who emigrates to James Rogers in South Manchester, CT. He is definitely from Ballygargin and a possible relative. Son is Samuel James b. 1892 who went to New Bedford, MA, son's wife was Rachel MConnell said to be born in Belfast 1895.

Thomas Gillespie of Ballynaghy married Margaret Redmond and Some Redmonds moved to Amsterdam and are probably from the area, but I don't know their background. George 1866, Mary Jane 1867, Joseph 1969 Eliza 1870, William Henry 1875

Unknown Gillepie married Sarah Cordner dau of Ann of Portadown Cordner sister Lydia marries Unknown Alexander and Lydia and kids live with Sarah in Philadelphia

I have Knocknamuckley bapt records to 1875ish and can go through them if you let me know which Gillespies you are looking for. Also have some 1901 census records, but nothing Irish that is recent.

Hey Yes!!

This is the same family. I am probably not even distant kin, but it is hard to tell. I am still trying to trace many lines. I have Ballygargin relatives who went to Amsterdam, NY in Montgomery County (not Montgomery,NY which also exists.) Minnie died in or was buried in Gloversville nearby and I have some obituaries from her children.

I don't know anything about the Boyles and would like to know about the Gracey link. However, I have all sorts of trees from Amsterdam which contain your related Hannas, McDowells, Lavery, Thompson, Carson,Lindsays, Arthurs, etc. Folks in Amsterdam are usually somewhat private, so I would prefer to pass on information privately.

Kat
rconard@blarg.net and watch the spelling

HANNA, Joseph b.1842 Ireland, possibly Londonderry

Looking for information on my gg grandfather Joseph Hanna, born 1842 who married a Margaret Jane Dale in 1870 Hartlepool, Co Durham, UK.

Have possible sighting of Joseph in 1861 census at Cheriton Barracks in Kent as part of the 2nd Batallion 18 Royal Irish Regiment of Foot. He then dissapears from the 1871 census, 1 year after his marriage to Margaret, then reappears in the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census shortly before his death.

On his marriage certificate his father is listed as a James Hanna, occupation - Miller. But beyond this I have no further information as to his origins or family in Ireland.

Can anyone help shed light on Joseph?

Many thanks

I looked harder and found Akins born April 25, probably 1890; it is not very clear especially as he was probably baptized in 1893. He is the son of James and Annie Liggett of Lurgan. This matches with your information. They were married Nov 5, 1886 and James is the son of William James Hanna of Boconnell. Ann is the daughter of William Liggett a Lurgan blacksmith. They also had children Elizabeth Jane 1888, Robert Hall July 22,1899, and William James 1892. There is a note which MIGHT indicate that Robert Hall was killed in 1916 during the war. You might want to check the war memorial.

Also, a Liggett sister is married soon after to a Castles of Annaloist. Since a Hanna is also married to an Analoist Castle, you might want to check with that researcher.

Possibly William and Maggie Hanna of Lurgan are relatives as they name a child Sam Gordon.

I can see only glimpses of your family in the research I did. Annie (Thompson) Hanna had son John (who died in 2003 NY)when she was living in Ballygargin in 1920. She emigrated for good in 1923, but apparently had been over earlier. Your tree fits into Ballygargan area Gillespies, Geddes, Dilworths, McDowells, and Rogers who immigrated through the Thompson family. The descendents of Joshua Thompson are researching his family and therefore Annie. Do you want to see these connections? People look for different things in genealogy and you need to say what interests you.

I can send you snatches of tree to your personal e-mail as recent people are involved. However, there will be errors as I did not personally know the families. I have put James as a questionable son of Andrew in the tree I made, but quite possibly he was a nephew. You should search familysearch to see if Andrew had a son James and ask the other Hannas and Thompsons in town what they have heard.

Tell me if you are interested in all the connections as the Bocconnell Gordons married a Hanna, and possibly I can find Ruth Gaddis. If you can check the 1930 census, you can see if Ekins really said he was born in England or if that was from a naturalization paper-that he was a British citizen i.e. Irish. Census records are much better in England, so you could locate James if he actually went there. Are you on-line to any of these site?

Kat Conard not Conrad rconard at blarg.net
Re: Ekins Hanna

The Boconnell Hannas use the given name Ekins.

Nov 5, 1833 Aiken Hanna and Mary Johnston have son William James. The also have son Andrew, but I did not see that record.

William James Hanna marries Elizabeth GOrdon with father James of Boconnell on May 18, 1856. She is 18 and he is of age.
They have children
Aikens June 15, 1850, James May 11/1862/ Anna and Mary May 23. 1864 William March 16, 1869 and there is a second entry without name or date a few lines down from William, possibly a repeat, Susan July 18, 1870, Akins July 28, 1872, Joseph Dec 19, 1874 Thomas Jan 26, 1877 Robert June 13, 1879

Andrew marries Arabella Campbell with father William possibly of Tirsogue. She was 19 and he was of age.
They had children Mary Jane March 4, 1855 and William Henry Oct 6, 1856. This Wm Henry porbably marries Elizabeth Lavery of Drumgor in 1896.

Arabella dies and Andrew marries Ruth Gaddis with father Andrew of Knockkramer on Nov 3, 1860. It is possible some of the chhildren are missing. They had Andrew Dec 23, 1861, Akens Dec 23, 1870, Elizabeth June 9, 1872, Andrew April 18, 1874, and John June 15, 1876. Possibly they change churches as I don't see more children right now.

I think Andrew, John, and Aiken who marries an Eleanor seem to match the dates in the US census. I would check Ellis Island to see relationships among the family, especially with James as I do not see his birth record.

Older records do not list location and the gap at 1775-1805 prevents continuity. I would see if Freeholders in PRONI on line will help.

There are many, many Andrew Gaddis/Geddes including those that went to NY. The Hannas mention a Gracey is a cousin and it may be through the Geddes line. I really don't know.

Ekins said he was born in 1885 in England, immigrated in 1892, and his father was James. Mary or Minnie said she was born 1896 and emigrated 1905.

I thought James had brothers Andrew, John, Ekin, and Robert who all emigrated to the same town. They were typically born 1870-1885. John said his wife, Annie Thompson, was in Ballygargin near Portadown when he emigrated, so the Hanna family may be from there. Possibly Edward in Ballygargin is a brother and John in Griffith's is a father of James. Possibly I can find John b. 1885 who married widow Martha Graham to see if he if he is in the census and where he might be. If you can straighten out my NY tree for the family, I would love it.

There are other families in Lurgan like Aikens Hanna (27 in 1901 census)and wife Margaret McDowell who go to First Presbyterian Church in Lurgan where they baptized Margaret Jane in 1898. They also have daughter Ruth, 5 in 1901.

Also James Hanna 38 weaver Armagh Presby Annie wife 34 veiner Eliza Jane 12 William James 10 Ackens 7, Robert Hall 1 all b. Armagh

These are some of the different ways Ekins appears in the records. I assume they are related.

I know that they were living in Commerce, OK in 1927 and had sons named Rollan, Jack, and Joseph. I find them in CA and Beulah and her sons all died in CA. I am not sure when or where George died and am looking for the parents of George. I know his grandfather was John Hanna b. 1837 Ireland d. 1927 MO and Frances Palmer Hanna b. 1841 NY d. 1917 MO. Just not sure which son of John Hanna's was the father to George Hanna. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
