I am trying to discover the ancestry of my gggrandfather Hansford Hawkins b. 9 Dec 1820 in KY, m. Rhoda Fletcher 4 Jun 1849, d. 18 Oct 1908. I suspect that his first name comes from a matralineal connection. Does anyone know of any connection between the Hansford family of KY and the Hawkins family?

I understand there is a Hansford city in KY. Was this named after a famous Hansford settler? Perhaps my Hansford Hawkins was named after him? Could the two families have migrated from Virginia to KY together? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks
