Hello Ron,
The family appears in the 1901 census as Harsford.
How sure are you about that 1912 marriage?
I think it was of Henry and Viola's daughter, Viola May, who married Charles Figgins. (I can't see her in the 1901 census with the rest of the family.)
Looking at the 1911 census the two Violas are living together with the other two of Henry and Viola's children, in Hartley Wintney. Henry also appears to be in the same area although not at the same address.
If you get a copy of one of the daughters' marriage certificates that could tell you if Henry was deceased at the time of her marriage. (I think Gertrude married George Foggo in 1928.)
Cheers,
John Chant
Not my family but I look after the Hansford list on Rootsweb: http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/surname/h/hansford....

Re: Tracing relatives

I look at Hansfords as my great gran came from one family line of that name. I don't think Emily joined her family but, as far as I can see, married a Henry Honeyban Hansford, possibly in Scotland (as the first few children of 14 appear to have been born up there). Henry's birth was registered in Clifton, Bristol but his family line comes from Loders in Dorset.
There were two Emily Walkers registered in Liverpool in 1873/1874 but I think yours was born at North Cave in Yorkshire of Benjamin Robert Walker, a miller born Bilsby, Lincolnshire and Annie Stather. There were a number of children according to the census returns. Hope this is useful and I haven't got any of this basic stuff wrong; please remember, though, that any Internet findings which are passed on will need to be checked. Good luck with the research.

Hi

I've been researching the Hansford family - mainly from Loders, Dorset - for over 30 years and have a large database. William Hansford, (Robert's father) was born on 24th February 1851 and baptised at Loders on 4th May 1851, the son of James Hansford and Mary Groves. Emily Jane Walburton was born in 1848 in Powerstock, the daughter of Moses Walburton and Ann Honeybun. I suspect that it was Emily's mother Ann who was present at the birth of Robert not his grandmother. Ann HONEYBUN was the sister of my direct ancestor Sophia Honeybun.

If you would like to contact me on margaret.ware@tiscali.co.uk, I can provide you with more information.

Kind regards
Margaret Ware

Looking For Hansford Relatives

I have little information, but I so want to find any family. My birth name is Toni Hansford and I was born in Wichita, Kansas in 1960, but was adopted by my step-father. My biological father's name is Dennis Hansford and my mother's name is June Darlene Shoemaker(Sturgis). I believe my mother has 9 brothers and sisters, one being a twin brother, Daryl, that grew up in the Kansas/Missouri areas. My mother is estranged from her family and has refused to discuss them or my biological father. So, I have a big family out there, that I would love to know. This is a shot in the dark, but I would be humbly grateful for any information you may know. Thanks- Toni Hansford

Hansford and Hawkins Connection

I am trying to discover the ancestry of my gggrandfather Hansford Hawkins b. 9 Dec 1820 in KY, m. Rhoda Fletcher 4 Jun 1849, d. 18 Oct 1908. I suspect that his first name comes from a matralineal connection. Does anyone know of any connection between the Hansford family of KY and the Hawkins family?

I understand there is a Hansford city in KY. Was this named after a famous Hansford settler? Perhaps my Hansford Hawkins was named after him? Could the two families have migrated from Virginia to KY together? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

I believe your Thomas Hansford is connected to my Benjamin who in turn had a Benjamin Jr. from Kentucky... Who in turn was the father of John M. Hansford who was a doctor and and lawyer and he married Marriah Davison1827 in Barren county ky .... His father lived in Wayne county I believe....Thus John M. Hansford came to Texas during the Republic of Texas and was a Judge... see Texas handbook on line .. for his Bio

Barbara

Lydia Ruth, I think she went by Ruth after she grew up, married in W.Va. to a Hansford. All I have is that his initials were M.M. but I am not real sure of that. This is hard to search because I believe she took her life . I believe it was in a bathtub. The Shriners lived in W.Va. around Wood Co. and also in Southern Ohio. If this is familiar to anyone would love to compare notes.

Re: Info needed on a Emma Jean Hansford of Stanford, Ky.

Better never than late, right? I am related to Emma Hansford Livingston who lived at Crab Orchard in Lincoln County, KY from 1858-1921. I have had very little luck locating any of her people, but her mother was Avarilla Hardin Hansford. My great aunt was also an Avarilla, named, no doubt, after her grandmother. My Emma's husband was a farmer and Church of Christ minister with 4 churches. They had 4 children. I have just been using Ancestry.com for about two years, and am now getting to checking the boards. According to such records as I have, my Emma Hansford had the middle initial T. I also have a picture of her on my family tree--The White Family Tree--which you can see on this site. I have a couple of "eye-witness" observations from my mother's cousin who gave me some family history about the Livingstons (her grandparents).

On 31 Sept 1737, Edward and Susannah Hansford baptize a daughter, Frances in Stanton St Giles, a parish near Chideok, Dorset. I would appreciate any other data that you might have on Edward and Susannah, and their ancestors. willbacon@charter.net

Simon Hansford

Simon Hansford was born about 1706, probably in Dorset. He marries Margarett Palmer on 5 April 1771, in Powerstock. I would appreciate hearing from anyone with information on either of these peoples ancestors. willbacon@charter.net.

Frances HANSFORD married Richard TRAVERS-DORSET, UK

I see from many postings a lot of interest in this couple, as they form a direct line to my maternal 3rd grt grandmother's family - the CLARKs from DORSET. My Frances Hansford was born and baptised in Stanton St. Giles - a parish near Chideock. She was baptised there on 31.9.1737 and married Richard Travers "as his second wife", at Loders (Dorset) on 5th April 1771. Richard Travers was b: c. 1736 in Askerwell, the son of Roger TRAVERS (b: 1 Apr 1712 Netherbury) and Ann BAGG of Litton Cheney - who married on 11 Jan 1730 in Askerwell. I believe that Roger TRAVERS was the son of Samuel TRAVERS, who I "think" was buried on 6 Sep 1762 in ALMER, Dorset (unconfirmed) - mother unknown. There is also other HANSFORDS within my tree also, who are downline from John HANSFORD and Grace GILLINGHAM from LODERS. If anyone would like to reply to this posting I would be more than happy to compare notes. Cheers, ausleans1

Are you referring to Felix Grundy Gilbert (b. 1758) who is said to be descended from a Hansford in VA?

I am trying to find info on his parentage and location of birth. If you have any info, please reply.
