in Ohio's early history, Morgan, Washington, and Noble county lines moved back and forth some. My family line shows a Mary Hanson, daughter to Peter Hanson and Amelia (Isreal) Hanson. Peter was born in 1795, Amelia was born 1793. that would make them about the right age to have a daughter, possible Mary in 1824. I am just beginning to research this part of the family. other children of Peter are Rachel, William, Nancy, Sara A.,Reuben, Robert, Samuel,Leander and Hamilton. per Morgan County History 1886, by Robertson. page 465 3rd paragraph. if this is your family or even if it is not but have run across this family in your research, I would like a reply.

Wonderful to connect with you!

I was raised in a house where Ole's portrait was on the wall, with a ton of art objects and antiques about that he aquired. I slept on a bed that was once the king of Spains, or on another one that was made for Napolean Bonaparte.

I lived with my aunt Nell, Ole's eldest daughter, my aunt Marjorie and Uncle Theodore Roosevelt Hanson, as well as my mother, Muriel, of course.

I have quite a bit of ancestry info on Ole Hanson's wife, Nellie May Rose, but very little on my grandfather, being that the Norwegian amount of Hansons, Hansens, etc. is mindboggling. I found where Ole had moved his parents to Seattle from Wisconsin. Short of going to Gudbrendstahl, it is hard for me to trace Ole's line. Can you help? I'd love to share with you what I know about Ole (and believe me, I know alot) and I'd love to know what you may know about our Norwegian heritage.

I am a psychosocial rehabilitation specialist in Idaho, The Magic Valley. I have been to San Clemente more than once (always get the best of welcomes there) and am proud of my grandfather's accomplishments.

I know alot of the history and was told alot as I grew up. I knew my uncles Robert, Bunny, Bill, Ted, Ole Hanson jr., my aunts Nell, Doris and Marjorie...but only corresponded with Lloyd at a distance.

Don't believe everything the press said about Ole...He was an amazing human being. Ole was a progressive and an ally of Teddy Roosevelt. He backed the 8 hr. day, worker's comp, women's right to vote, minimum wage...

POW/MIA Korean War

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave FAIRFIELD COUNTY< CONNECTICUT as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. Our government has no family contact at this time for this soldier

Born:1923
Date of loss: April 25, 1951

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

I found them and their children in 1920 in Minneapolis Ward (, Hennipen, Minnesota, can anyone tell if they can find out what happened to the children after Harry and Emilia divorced, The childrens names are Percy, Harold, Gladys, Eileen and Woodrow. both never married. they owned the farm that my great grandmother worked for. basically their maid. when they died, they willed their estate to her. her name was emma thompson. this gets weird. she had a daughter francis, who ended up marrying my grandpa archie hanson. and as far as we know, our hanson clan has no relationship with the other hansons from emmas past. so in the end, hanson carried on only through name, not blood.

WOODBURY, Minnesota - Florence J. Hanson, 84, a former resident of Muscatine, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at the Woodbury Health Care Center in Woodbury, Minnesota.

A private family funeral service will be held with a private burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Choir, the Heritage Museum in Swedesburg, Iowa, or the donor's choice.

Mrs. Hanson was born on Aug. 12, 1918, in Swedesburg, Iowa, the daughter of Constance and Edith Sandeen Lindeen. She married Robert L. Hanson on June 7, 1941, in Swedesburg.

Mrs. Hanson was a graduate of Iowa Weslyan College. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, P.E.O. Sisterhood, and other civic and religious organizations.

She taught music for many years in Muscatine, was a director of church choirs and taught private voice and piano lessons. She was well known as a professional vocal soloist in eastern Iowa.

Mrs. Hanson loved to garden, sew, cook and enjoyed walking and hiking. She was very active in her church and her faith was always an important part of her life. She loved sharing her faith through music. Her joyful smile will always be remembered by those who knew and loved her.

Survivors include two sons, Jon R. Hanson and his wife, Jacalyn, of Downers Grove, Illinois, and Richard P. Hanson and his wife, Cheryl, of Waseca, Minnesota; two daughters, Lyn D. Wilkie and her husband, Alan, of Cottage Grove, Minnesota and Kristine H. Lee and her husband, Robert, of Rochester, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert L. Hanson in 1990, one brother and one sister.

ALEDO, Ill. -- Ruth Ann 'Sooky' Hanson, 72, Aledo, died Monday, March 10, 2003, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island, Ill., after an extended illness.

Memorial services are 3 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Aledo. The Rev. Daren Dietmeier will officiate. According to her wishes, her body was cremated. A private burial will be held at Candor Cemetery.

She attended Rock Island and Kansas City, Mo. schools, graduating from Rock Island High School in 1949.

She was employed by Farmall in Rock Island, Petersen Harned Von Maur in Davenport, Maid Rite in Aledo and the Black Hawk Area Education Center in East Moline, Ill.

She worked on several political campaigns.

She loved to follow her sons athletic events and band performances. She also took pleasure in horse shows, rodeos, walking, horseback riding and most of all visiting her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, James Hanson and his wife, Amanda, and Karl Hanson and his wife, Patty, all of Aledo; five grandchildren, Carli, Jesse and Noah Hanson and Carly and Gage DeShane, all of Aledo; three sisters, Geneva Drennen of Tigard, Ore., Genitee Moore of Moline, Ill. and Gwendolyn Sajak of Rock Island; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Ray; an infant granddaughter, Barrie Sue Hanson; sisters, Pearl Hunter, Opal Eskew, Billie Eggers; and a nephew, David Sajak.

master's degree from Western Illinois University.

She taught school for 36 years in Madrid, Churdan, Oelwein and the last 28 years, in the Muscatine School District, including 23 years at McKinley Elementary.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Muscatine Education Association.

She will be deeply missed by her husband; two sons, David J. Hanson and his wife, Nicole, of Charlotte, N.C. and John M. Hanson and his wife, Kristin, of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Andrew Hanson, Allison Hanson and Charlie Hanson; a sister, Rosemary Klitzke of Omaha, Neb.; a brother, James Ryan of Churdan; and a sister-in-law, Connie Ryan of Churdan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Michael J. Ryan.

He preceded her in death in December of 1957. She later married Carroll Hanson on June 27, 1964, in Burlington. He preceded her in death in August of 1977.

Mrs. Hanson worked at Heinz Company for many years and also the Muscatine Care Center.

Survivors include two sons, Gail Horton and his wife, Patricia, of Muscatine and Ronald Horton and his wife, Kay, of Muscatine; two daughters, Mona Horton of Muscatine and Donna Mesmer of Davenport; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one brothers, Ray Crist of Muscatine.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands; twin sons, and three brothers, Melvin, Clayton and Russell Crist.

LaVonna Marie Struthers, 82 of West Bend died Tuesday September 15, 2009 at the West Bend Care Center. Services will be held Saturday, September 19, 2:00 PM at the United Methodist Church, West Bend with Rev. Evelyn Lewiston officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM Saturday at the church. Burial will take place in the West Bend Cemetery at a later date, at the convenience of the family. LaVonna M. Struthers was born June 5, 1927 in Alta ,Iowa the daughter of Emmet and Marcella (Andersen) Hanson. She attended school in Alta before moving to the Bradgate area and graduating from the Bradgate High School. On March 9, 1947 LaVonna was united in marriage with Ralph R. Struthers in Bradgate. The couple began their life together on a farm south of Bradgate and eventually moved to McKnights Point where they spent their entire married lives together. Ralph died May 15, 1971 in Ottosen, IA. LaVonna moved off the farm to West Bend in 1981 and has been a resident of the West Bend Care Center since 2004.
Survivors include her children: Ronald (Dorothy) Struthers of Arvada, Colorado, Virginia Anderson of Ames, IA, Beverly Jensen of Sibley, IA and Vera Jean (Blake) Banwart of West Bend, fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, sister LaVera Fleuriet of Georgetown, Texas and several nieces and nephews. LaVonna was member of the United Methodist Church, the womens circles of the church, and the American Legion Auxillary. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Allen in 2005 ,and her brothers Darwin Hanson and Gerald Hanson.

I know this is an answer from a request made 9 years ago but thought I would take a stab at it. I am related to the Hanson's you are referring to. Mary Jane would have been my ggaunt. Half aunt really. Her mother Margaret was my ggggrandmother. I'm sure you have found what you were looking for in the last nine years but if there is anything you don't have email me and I will see if I have it. It would have to be Mary Jane's side as I am not researching the Hansons.

Descendants of HINSONs of Olde Dobbs Co., NC and derivative counties

Use of DNA to straighten out HINSONs of Dobbs & Wayne Co., NC, 1760-1810.

There are several HINSON men named in land transactions in Olde Dobbs and Wayne counties in NC during the years 1760-1810. Several given names continue to appear over and over again in later generations. Examples are George, James, Joseph, Jeremiah, Jessee, Joshua, Elijah, Moses, William and perhaps Abraham.

There is a theory, backed by a handwritten HINSON/HANSON family history, which, with some DNA testing, may help us to straighten these lines out somewhat.

If you are male, or know a male, who has an unbroken male line of descent from some of these HINSONs, and want to consider having the male DNA tested toward this objective, read on...

The Theory:
George HINSON emigrated from England to the colonies. In Virginia, he met and married Margaret MOZINGO, as his 2nd wife between 1741 and 1754. The family moved to Olde Dobbs Co., NC. George HINSON died shortly after Oct 1772 in Olde Dobbs Co., NC. George HINSON and Margaret MOZINGO had at least seven, perhaps eight, children: Elijah, William, James, Moses, Jessee, Joseph, Jeremiah and perhaps Aaron. These brothers purchased land in Olde Dobbs, Wayne and adjacent counties, but many of the descendants of these brothers moved to other states, such as Ohio, Georgia, South Carolina, Arkansas and Texas.

The Sources:
The most important source is the "Hanson Family Record", handwritten by Alfonso Bernardo HANSON in 1961. This is important because it names George HINSON, names his wife Margaret MOZINGO and names his sons. Court records of Westmoreland Co., VA confirm the relationship between George HINSON and Margaret MOZINGO as does the will of Edward MOZINGO, Margaret MOZINGO's uncle, The last record of George HINSON is in Olde Dobbs Co., NC court records where he is exempted from taxes and public duties because he was aged and infirm.

George HINSON's sons: Elijah, William, James, Moses, Jessee, Joseph, Jeremiah and perhaps Aaron show up in land transactions and tax rolls in and around Olde Dobbs Co., as early as 1765 (James) while Joseph, Jeremiah, Elijah, and Jessee show up in the following years.

My wife's line descends from George HINSON's son Elijah who served in the Revolutionary War from 1778-1779 in the 3rd North Carolina Regiment - this is supported by a published copy of his discharge papers, and DAR records. Elijah shows in land transactions from 1779 to 1789. Around 1779 Elijah HINSON married Susannah SCRIVENS, a Quaker, who was disowned from the Society for that marriage, but was later reinstated. Their 10 children were raised as Quakers and much of the family information comes from Hinshaw's "Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy". Elijah HINSON died in Feb 1802 and, by 1805, Susannah and her 10 children migrated to Belmont Co. Ohio. The name change from HINSON to HANSON occurred during the time of this migration. I won't bother with discussing this line any more right now.

I do not have anywhere near as much information regarding George HINSON's other sons William, James, Moses, Jessee, Joseph, Jeremiah and perhaps Aaron. But other people claim to. And I want to take advantage of that!

The Role of DNA:
As many of you know, certain DNA markers are passed, virtually unchanged from father to son, to son, to son and so on. My brother-in-law, Bruce HANSON has a proven unbroken male direct ancestry through the Belmont Co. OH HANSONs back to George and Elijah HINSON mentioned above. That means his DNA matches that of George and Elijah HINSON!

But more importantly, that means that his DNA matches any other direct male descendant of George HINSON and his sons William, James, Moses, Jessee, Joseph, Jeremiah and perhaps Aaron!

What you can do:
If you are, or if you know of, any currently living direct unbroken male descendant of the HINSONs of Olde Dobbs Co., NC, then consider having that male DNA tested by FamilyTreeDNA or an equivalent. DNA testing is safe, convenient, painless, private and relatively inexpensive (under $100). Many other HINSONs HANSONs and similar surnames have had their DNA tested. If you descend from the Dobbs Co., NC HINSONs/HANSONs, and IF your DNA matches Bruce HANSON's DNA, then we will be able to start proving this theory and take the genealogy of the Dobbs Co., HINSONs back another generation or so. I';m Jon Avery and I'm researching the John HANSON (1st Pres) line for my wife and Brother-in-law who are HANSONs. I'm trying to utilize DNA technology to help straighten out the Charles Co. HANSON descendants. SO...

Does anybody in this thread know of a direct, unbroken, male line of descent from John HANSON (1st Pres) or his father or his grandfather down to a living male descendant?

It'good to here from you. My mother and father seperated about 60 years ago and that ended any comunication with the Hansons in DC. However as a youg boy my father James told me that I and my brothers were related to john Hanson waho was the first zpresident of the USA. This idea stayed dormant until 2000 when the bicentenial celebration brought to Philadelphia a meeting of the John Hanson society and opened up interest in this relationship. I have a book defending this man and he was in fact the President of one of the Contential Congress assembled. If you have any knowledge of this relationship I would be interested in sharing my data with you and hopefully come to a conclusion ahout the truth in this relationship.

Terri Kay (Hanson) Guinn the daughter of Merle T. and JoAnn (Enger) Hanson was born March 19, 1961 in Estherville, Iowa. She died on Sunday, August 9, 2009 at Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 48.

She received her education in Graettinger schools and graduated from Graettinger High School in 1979.

On June 23, 1979 she was united in marriage to Matthew Guinn in Graettinger. The couple made their home in Kansas City, Missouri from 1984 to 1997 and during this time Terri was manager of K.F.C, McDonald's and Mrs. Fields Cookies. In 1997, the couple returned to Graettinger and Terri provided daycare to area family and friends.

Terri was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger. For hobbies, she enjoyed crocheting baby afghans and baptismal gowns, painting everyone's demo cars, and getting everyone all decked out at Halloween for the contests. Hanson of Graettinger; siblings, Jackie Burke and her husband, Dennis of Woodbury, Minnesota; Kevin Hanson and his wife, Jill of Graettinger; Rick Hanson and his wife, Cindi of Ringsted; Kelly Lundgren and her husband, Terry of Wallingford; Todd Hanson of Omaha, Nebraska; Jody Hampson and her husband, Andy of Graettinger; maternal grandmother, Viola Enger of Ruthven; mother-in-law, Edna Guinn of Ruthven; and many nieces and nephews.

Both John(Johan) and Farley(Fahle) was born i Woxtorp, Halland 1858 and 1855.My grandfather Karl J Hanson was a representative for John Gustaf Jerling when his mother Lovisa died 1931. I am also interested in Fahles(Farley´s) where abouts the few years he stayed in America.

I have an Edward Delahay Hanson in my tree born in Whaplode Lincs in 1795 to Wiliiam Hanson and Mary Delahay. I believe he was a miller and a baker and married Ann Ancient in Whaplode in 1822.
His older brother Richard born in 1794 was my ancestor.
Their father William was born around 1759 and died in 1821 in Whaplode. Their mother Mary was born in 1770 in Whaplode and married William Hanson 14th June 1791 in Whaplode. She died there in 1858 and was buried at St Marys church Whaplode.
As well as Richard and Edward there were other children, William born 1792, Elizabeth born 1809, Marianne born 1806, Martha born 1815, Rebecca born 1804 and Sarah born 1799.
I hope that is useful for you and I have further information on the Delahay family if you are interested.

I have am seeking information about Mary Hanson. I have little to go on. I found her name on her son's death certificate. It lists his parents as Elijah Ward and Mary Hanson. Sylvester was born in Washington County, OH in 1850. I know that Mary Hanson Ward was born in Ohio. I do not know what year. I know that Elijah was born in 1824 in Ohio. I believe he was from Washington or Noble County (from cencus info). In 1870 he was in Ross County and is married to a woman named Felinda. But back in Washington County in 1880. So I suspect my Mary Hanson may have been from Washington County since that is where Sylvester was born and Elijah spent much of his life there.

If this was part of my family, Art was Sarah's son. My maternal grandmother was Harriet Christine Hanson. Her mother was Sarah Hanson, father was Chris Hanson, brother Arthur Hanson, sister Katherine Hanson.

My grandmother moved to Washington from Duluth where she married Carrington Belt McGraw. They had 3 sons Carrington Belt McGraw, Jr. (b. 1920), Arthur Keith McGraw (b. 1924; d. 2008) and Thomas Douglas McGraw (b. 1928). My grandparents moved from Washington, DC to Arlington, VA in the mid 1930's.

According to my Dad (Tom McGraw) - Sarah had at least 3 brothers: Tom Samson, Ole Tweeden and Amos Tweeden (Tveden?). Tom Samson was the oldest son and therefore took his father's name as his last name, Ole Tweeden & Amos Tweeden (Tveden) who took their last name as the place they were from, were orphaned in Norway when Sarah was about 7 years old. Other family members took over Sarah's parents farm and she was treated as a servant. Although the timing is unclear (at least to me), Tom & Ole left Norway and worked as loggers in MN and eventually Tom sent for Sarah (and probably Amos) and lived in Duluth.

Uncle Ole (Tweeden) went to Alaska in the early stages of the Yukon Gold Rush and staked 32 claims. See: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/l/e/e/Stan-Robert...

Amos Tweeden also went west to Tacoma, WA (perhaps by way of Fargo, ND, where an Amos Tweeden opened a theater in 1914)

My great-grandfather Chris Hanson had a bar in Duluth.

I have a 1907 picture of my grandmother in her school classroom in Duluth.

Uncle Art was a railroad engineer. He came to Arlington, VA to visit my grandmother in the early 1960's and regaled us with some of his railroad stories.

My aunt Katherine married Alex (Alec?) Payton, divorced, changed her name to Peyton and wrote a book "The World So Fair" as Karen Peyton about growing up as a young girl in Minnesota.

Hi Diana it's odd that I found your post - I am also looking for Kenny, have you found anything yet? My father was his half-brother as well. Grandma died in the 90's by the way, not 85. My fahter was her child from a previous marriage before she married your father. He was a truck driver and lived in Great Grandma Carson's house on 4th street in Grand Forks, ND until the floods where I lost contact after everyone evacuated. His house was ruined and he moved away. He was a truck driver so he could be anywhere. At the time he was not married and had no children but that may have changed. My father recently passed away, and I literally have no other family except Kenny. His birthday is March 3rd, 1964 and his middle name is Lee.

I know your family tree. My mother Jacqueline Angelina Valpina Lindsay (nee Hanson) was sister to Earnest Sidney Valpina Hanson. She passed on the family history to me during her lifetime. Earnest was my uncle I remember well enough. Arthur was gassed in WW1 but survived and his brother died at the Battle of Coronel 1914 serving in the Royal Navy. The ship was the HMS Good Hope. I know much more than this and intend to write it.
