Dear Hardcastle List,

My dad grew up in the 40's and 50's on Arlington Drive in Walnut Park, STL, MO.

There was a Hardcastle family that lived a few doors down..

Dad's good friend was Dave. I remember his mother's name was Anna.

I remember Dave had German Shepard named Duke that would shake hands..

Later Dave bought an old farm/farmhouse nearby Long Road in Chesterfield, Missouri..

Back then it was the "country". There was a barn.. a creek..animals..couple horses, few cows.. and...

"Watch Geese" :) Remember being really scared of those geese because they would hank, flap and chase after anyone who came near... And you had to walk past them to play in the back field..

Anyhow...

Discovered at:

http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/

Wesley Harcastle [Hardcastle] born Jacksonville, Arkansas.
Died Dec. 1951. Address 5077 Arlington. Wife Anna. Father called Peyton Hardcaslle. Burial Memorial Park Cemetery..

(Probobly Memorial Park, Jennings, STC., Missouri)

Also.

Lulu Hardcastle, died STL., MO. Aug. 1954.
Usual residence..Route 2 Jacksonville, Pulaski, Arkansas
Husband Peyton Hardcastle..
Father David Calhoun,
Mother Sarah McBride.
Informant: Mrs. Naomi Yancey, 3034 Whittier.
Burial Bayou Mato? Cemetery, Jacksonville, Arkansas.

Anyhow.. thought I would post in case of interest to anyone on this list.

I speculate that the ^ persons are related or are in-laws.

Would love to get in touch with the Hardcastle family that dad grew up with.

Warmest Regards,
Barbie
I am searching for a branch of the Hardcastle family which originated from the Durham, north of England area. Charles Hardcastle b.1860 had another 12 siblings, (father George), who left England for the USA. One brother named John became a methodist minister.
Charles returned to England probably after 1881 (as I cannot find him on the 1881 census), and married Margaret Watson
in 1884, where they raised their family in Co.Durham, Charles was a coal miner. I have plenty of information from that date onwards...but have hit a brick wall going back.
Would be grateful for any info.
My mother was a Hardcastle.
Missionary to Africa Mary Hardcastle Griswold

I'm researching early missionaries to Gaboon, and have found the name Mary Hardcastle, who was the widow of Benjamin Griswold. Both served in Cape Palmas, Liberia in the early 1840s and both died in Gaboon. He died in 1844 and she died in 1849. Mary is buried at Baraka cemetery in Libreville. Does anyone have information on this couple?

Sarah, Rebecca, Adam, India
Posting this message here, because the Hardcastle's and Wilkinsons were connected in some ways. Whether it is marriage or other ways.

These children are listed as Wilkersons but I am thinking they were Wilkinsons.
They wre all bound out between 1812-1816.

Sarah, my GGG grandmother was bound out in 1812 to Margaret McMurry. She was listed as being the orphan daughter of Mary/Polly Wilkerson.
Sarah later married John Philbeck.
IN Margaret McMurry's husband's will, he lists a Sarah, I don't know if he considered my Sarah a daughter or not.

In 1813, Rebeccah Wilkerson was bound out to Abraham Crow, she was 4 yrs old. It did not mention a parent's name.
In 1816, Adam Wilkerson was 4 yrs old and he was bound to Abraham Crow.
IN 1816, India Wilkerson was first bound to Margaret Ethrington and then to Will Jones and then back to Margaret Ethrington who later married James Withrow.

All of these chidlren were in Rutherford County NC.

Rebecca was found charging James W. Hardcastle for bastardy in April 1829.
This is all that have been found..
I thought India's name may have been shortened . Maybe her name was Melinda, or Lucinda?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The Hardcastle family data include a reference to two Kedar Hawthornes. One was born in 1797 and is the Reverend Kedar Hawthorne. The other was born in approximately 1767, but I find no more about him. The Hardcastle data state that John Hawthrone is the Reverend Kedar's father and that he (John) had a brother and a son named Kedar. I find a Kedar in the 1790 census for Robeson County, North Carolina. Does anyone have information on the older Kedar Hawthorne?

Robert Hardcastle, Caroline Cty, MD

According to my mother Robert Hardcastle, probably of Yorkshire, England, came to Caroline County around 1747. He had 7 children one of whom was Thomas. Thomas had 8, one of whom was Edward B. E.B.H. married Ann Lockwood. I'm not clear how many children they had, but after they both died of TB 5 sons were sent to be raised by Ann's brother Caleb Lockwood in St. Louis, including my ggrandfather Aaron Bascom Hardcastle. He was stationed in San Diego with the US Cavalry and then served the Conferdacy and was wounded at Shiloh. There's more, but I lack dates and places. I'm new at this; can anyone guide me?

HARDCASTLE, Leeds (Hunslet)1890s

HI, I know there are quite a number of Hardcastles from Leeds, but I am at a brick wall with mine--despite having a suitcase full of Hardcastle photos etc. My grandmother was Mary Alice Hardcastle b. 1891. She had siblings named George S. also Thomas (always called Tom) and sister named Elizabeth (always known as Dick). The parents were Elizabeth WHITEHEAD (maybe from Sheffield) and Tom HARDCASTLE. That is all I know about these people and yet, I am sure there are descendents of these people still in Leeds area. George and wife Lettie HEMINGWAY had two children, Brian and Brenda both of whom would have been born in the 1920s. I know they had children but I don't know what their names would be. I would dearly love to be in contact with other people searching this line. Please contact me at flsimons@telus.net
