I do believe you are related to us. I am Blanton's great granddaughter. Richard Hobson Hardeman( Blanton's youngest son)is my grandfather, my father(Willie Horne Hardman Sr.) just passed last March. I am the youngest of his 9 children of which 8 are left. Carl (cwd1) who posted the Hardeman plantation, & Beauragard Hardeman are our family tree researchers. You can contact me @ cher806@bellsouth.net and
I can get you in touch with both of them. I'm not sure but I think Beau is from the Robert Vines side, if not then Carl is. The Hardeman Family Cemetary is on our family property in Gray, it's on Elizabeth (Hardeman)Glover's tract. I also have a Family tree that Beau did I can try and dig it up if you would like a copy if I can find mine I'm sure Beau & Carl have one. My pc crashed and I'm not sure if I still have it on this pc.

Dear cwdav1:
I am related to Robert Vines Hardeman. The 1870 census is the first census to list blacks by names. There is a reference to Blanton Hardeman in the book, "History of Jones County," by Carolyn Williams, in which Isaac Hardeman, his cousin, John Thomas Hardeman, and Blanton Hardeman, a freed slave, held off a mob who were threatening to storm the county courthouse.
Blanton Hardeman, his first wife, Rose, and daughter, Maxeline, are listed in the 1870 Jones County census. He and his second wife, Martha, are listed in the 1880-1910 Jones County census. The 1900 census gives the ages, month and year of birth of all the family, including 9 children.
There is a Hardeman Cemetery, in which mostly blacks are buried, near Gray, Jones County, on Hardeman property. Blanton and his family are buried there.
If you would like to contact me for more information, you
can e-mail me at ellenorhowell@aol.com
Ellenor Howell

Hardeman plantations in Georgia

Seeking names of slaves on the Hardeman plantations/farms in Jones and Newton Cos. GA 1820-1860s - in particular (all w/ surname of Hardeman) Green b. 1830, Emily b. 1835, Blanton b. 1836, Mary b. 1844, Beauregard b. 1860 and Hattie b. 1862. They may have been on p/f of anglo Robert Vines Hardeman or children especially John Hardeman. Green, Blanton, John & Jeffrey Wilson (father-in-law of Emily) registered to vote on same day, apparently together since they are listed in the record book virtually one right after the other, in Jones Co. in July 1867.

Re: Parents and beyond of Elizabeth Hardeman

HELLO: I too am descended from THOS. HARDEMAN b. 1730 VA & his wife, ELIZABETH. I come from their daughter, WINNIE HARDEMAN who mar. JOHN MOORE, thru their son, SPENCER MOORE, of TATTNALL CO. GA.
However, I dont think there is a shred of evidence (that I know of) that proves that Thomas Hardeman above, was son of a Joseph. Nor that he was gr'son of John.
If anyone has evidence proving same, I'd LOVE to know about it. I've asked people for any bit of evidence proving it for years, but so far, have seen nothing.
I know that someone started this *rumor* years ago, and someone shows it on their "family pedigree", but honestly, I do not believe there is a bit of documentation to prove it. (I think someone has "said" that their "proof" seems to be that our THOMAS has a son by the name of "Joseph" and that seemed to be his "proof" that thomas's FATHER must have been named Joseph. But honestly, that is not any kind of "proof."
But please, if there IS some type of evidence, please please pass it on to those of us who are unaware of it, so that we may be enlightened.
So far, I know of no proof of Thomas's parentage, and I'd sure love to know!
There are many of us on the HARDEMAN email list at yahoogroups, and any and all who are related are welcome to join! Just send an email to:
HARDEMAN-SUBSCRIBE@yahoogroups.com
Thank you, and I hope to hear of any evidence of parents of Thomas Hardeman! I am hoping to learn!
THANKS!
TINA KEENE PEDDIE
tpeddie@charter.net and desabla1@yahoo.com
If you or anyone one else in that family maybe interested in getting this Bible contact me at westkygenealogy@yahoo.com and we'll try to get it back to the family.

Below are a few photos i took with my camera photo.

Don Howell

Hardman c. 1827, Bennett Hardman b. 1829 & son Berry b. 1831.

I checked George T. Powell's two volume set on the Powell & Hardman families and he doesn't show her as a child. Isaiah probably died in Randolph Co., AL and their court house burned at some point so I've not been able to find any estate records for him.

The Hardman family came to Oglethorpe Co., GA about the time that the completely unrelated Hardeman family got there too. I happen to be related to both of them so try to keep tabs on everyone. I wasn't sure if you knew to check Hardman records. I'd be happy to send you my file on this line.

Warner Smith Hardman was the son of Newton Jehu Hardman & Ella Frances Wilkerson. Newton Jehu Hardman was the son of Renew Isaac Hardman & Elizabeth Edna Hayes. I can go further back on this family if you need me to do so.

The Hardmans started out in VA & moved briefly to upstate SC, and then to Oglethorpe Co., GA. A completely unrelated Hardeman family was also in Oglethorpe Co. which resulted in the surnames becoming confused.
Isaiah HARDEMAN of Carroll Co., GA

Looking for any info on family of Isaiah HARDEMAN (c1782-aft1860), son of Uriah and Frances CHANDLER. Isaiah had two wives, Tabitha FORD and Martha MEAD.
Have the family in following census reports:

1820 Oglethorpe Co., GA
1830 Butts Co., GA
1840 + 1850 Carroll Co., GA
1860 Randolph Co., AL

I believe that my ancestor Sarah HARDEMAN was his daughter, cannot prove it, though. She married John W REID in Carroll Co., GA in 1844. According to the 1850 census for that county she was born in GA about 1829.

There are two daughters of Isaiah in the 1830 and 1840 census that are not accounted for and that would be perfect matches.

Does anybody have info on this family? Would love to share.
Thanks, Stephen

Re: Hardeman family of Williamson County, Tennessee

This whole adventure started because I was looking at the pile of old books I bought probably 30 years ago which included two old Algebra books, Part I and Part II. For the first time I noticed the name in the Part II book was written PETER HARDEMAN, FRANKLIN COUNTY, TENNESSEE. The Part II book had MYRA THOMPSON written in the front. I am sumising that they probably married. I found Peter Hardeman (b. 1842) in 1850-1870 census....but in 1880 I think I found him in Nashville in what I believe to be the state penetentiary. In 1900 I found his widowed wife and 3 kids living in Franklin, Williamson County again. And then I found the WWI Draft Registration card of his youngest son, Paul.
Thomas Jones Hardeman (great uncle of this Peter Hardeman) had Hardeman County, TN named for him and he and his brother went to Texas in the 1830's. They were both quite prominent there. MUCH information on Thomas Jones Hardeman and his son, William Polk Hardeman, online.

Sorry I'm not related to these folks! But was really interesting learning about the man and probably his wife who owned these Algebra books in the 1850's!
Here's some more information:
1850 CENSUS - Williamson County, TN, 10th Civil District
251/251
Frank Hardeman, 35, $10,000 Real estate value, TN
Catherine C. Hardeman, 31, TN
Laura F., 12, (all children born in TN)
Alice, 10
Peter, 8 (The Algebra book, pub. 1857, belonged to this Peter!)
Almira, 5
Franklin, 1
(4 older females living with them)
Note: These Algebra books were written by Joseph Ray (1807-1855) and was a noted fellow in his day. I did an internet search on just his name and there is much info about him online....so the books are also noteworthy!

1860 CENSUS - Williamson County, TN, East Subdivision, Franklin PO
1054/991
Frank Hardeman, 45, farmer, $30,000 real estate/$32,000 Personal est., TN (wealthy!)
C. C. Hardeman, 41, TN
Laura, 22 (all persons below, born TN)
Peter, 18
Almira, 15
F., (male), 12
C., (female), 10
S., (male), 7
Dollie McRae, 60

1870 CENSUS - Davidson County, TN - Nashville, 11th District
218/222
Peter Hardeman, 28, TN
Martha Hardeman, 28, TN
Eugene, 3, TN
Sarah C., 7/12, TN

1880 CENSUS
(Unable to find the family, but did find a Peter Hardeman, age 31, living in some sort of institution with hundeds of other adults....probably state penitentiary....in Nashville.)

1900 CENSUS - 10th Civil District, Williamson County, TN
76/79
Martha Hardeman,, Dec 1841, 55, widow, 4 chidlren/4 living, TN TN TN , farmer
Eugene, son, Aug 1870, 27, TN TN TN, farm laborer
Sallie, daughter, oct 1873, 26, TN TN TN
Paul, son, Oct 1875, TN TN TN, farm laborer

I also found Paul Hardeman's WWI draft registration card listing him at Rt. 2, Franklin, Williamson County, TN, age 43, born Oct 10, 1874. Self-employed farmer. Lewisburg Pike, Franklin, Williamson County, TN. Nearest relative was Mrs. W. H. Barnett, sister, Rt. 1, Franklin. Tall, medium build and blue eyes!

I am speculating that Peter Hardeman's wife was the Myra Thompson whose name appeared in Part I book of the Algebra. She had written in the book that is belonged to James Boling Haddox. I found Boles Haddox (age 13) living with the Elizah Thompson family in District 1, Williamson County, TN, Frankllin in the 1860 census....and I bet "Myra or Martha" was the one shown as "Sissie Thompson, age 17) in that census. (Found Boles Haddox as a druggist in Nashville, age 23 single, in 1870. And 1880 mortality schedule for Nashville showed J. B. Haddox, druggist, died at age 31 of Paralysis.

This is also of interest:
http://www.cemetery.state.tx.us/pub/user_form.asp?step=1&amp...

Jerry Brooks
Murphy, NC
jbtexan@brmemc.net

Nore on Blackstone Hardeman Heirs

Ok, I know I have some relatives that want to claim the shares. Please contact Patsie with you line information so she can calculate your interest. Payday!

"I am actually researching a tract of land that
Blackstone Hardeman conveyed in 1874, but reserved all
of the mineral interest. Upon his death, this
interest passed to his heirs. I have an Affidavit of
Heirship that was filed in the Nacogdoches County
Records that list all the 16 children of Blackstone
and Rebecca Hardeman. One of the 16, Bruce, died at
an early age.

So now I need to determine how the other 15 children's
interest has passed until present day. The problem is
that around 1905 some of the children conveyed their
mineral interest, or portions thereof, to others
outside the family. S.H. Hardeman, being Samuel H.,
conveyed all his 1/15 interest to E.A. Blount in
conveyance dated September 21, 1903 and recorded in
Volume 47, Page 632 of the Deed Records of Nacogdoches
County, Texas. So I don't actually need to determine
his heirs because they acquired no interest. If you
would like, I could mail you a copy of this document.

If you have done any research on the other Hardeman
siblings, I would greatly appreciate connecting with
you about this. I have spoken with several local
descendants and have actually determined the heirship
in about 5 of the siblings.

Thank you for your response to my inquiry.

Patsie Coulter
pc_texas@yahoo.com
Independent Landman
Center, Texas

I wonder what happened to Bruce's shares. He never used them due to an early death. I say we as a family should find out what happened to it. What happens to the shares for those who have died without having any heirs of there own? Anyway, good news overall.

Jeremy Housley

Here is my line.

1. Jeremy Housley 1972-
2. Peggy Hardeman 1956-2003
3. Albert H. Hardeman 1928-1975
4. Hal A. Hardeman 1899-1984
5. Samuel Hunter Hardeman 1849-1909
6. Blackstone Hardeman Jr. 1822-1882
7. My Great Great Grandfather was Constantine Hardeman--who was a brother to Blackstone Hardeman, Jr. So, it would appear that we are distant cousins. We live in central Texas just south of Stephenville near a little community named Duffau. "Constant" and his wife Elizabeth (who was also a Hardeman--cousins) are buried in the Duffau Cemetery which is across the road from our farm. We still live on the farm that "Constant" purchased in 1877 and one of the farmhouses is still standing.

Another brother to Blackstone, Jr., William Nicholas "Nick" Hardeman and his wife Mary, are buried in Hamilton Co., Tx which is about 10 miles south of us. I've never tried to locate their gravesite, though.

That's about all the info I have on the family. Hope that helps. HB

I find a Bertha Smith with 3 children living with her parents John K and Louise Hardeman in the 1920 census in Wilbarger Co. Texas. The census is a bit difficult to read, but I believe the children's names are Claude Everett, Jewell L and Floyd.

I have been trying to figure out who this John K Hardeman decended from?? Possibly from Wm Constantine Hardeman and his wife Sarah Keese. If John's middle name was Keese, that would explain the middle initial. The birth year is about right. Anyone have anymore info??

Dear Mary Hardeman Anderson
I am writing from Detroit! I met a Blanton Hardeman here Detroit in 1994. His daughter to my understanding is living in Texas as of 2000. The Blanton that I write of is related to William Hardeman of Oglethrope County. The Hardeman family that lived there in 1870 from oral history were not slaves. William and my grandfather George Washington Hardeman were brothers. Are were speaking of the same Hardeman family.

Re: Eleazar HARDEMAN/Elizabeth FOSTER

Dear Cindy:
The only proof that I have found that Elizabeth Foster was the daughter of James Foster and Martha Dupuy (Dupie) was that Eleazar and Elizabeth Foster Hardeman named a son, James Foster Hardeman, and a daughter, Martha Dupuy (Dupie). They are listed in James Foster Hardeman's Bible, with their birth dates. The Bible is available in the Tennessee State Archives, Nashville, Tennessee.

I have not found a will for Eleazar Hardeman in Williamson County, Tennessee records. He died on June 26, 1841, according to an obituary, which appeared in the "Western Weekly Review, in Williamson County, Tennessee.

There is more information about Eleazar and his family in my family history, "The Hardeman Family History," published last year. I have spent almost 30 years researching the Hardeman family. I am descended from Blackstone Hardeman, a brother to Eleazar.

Please contact me at ellenorhowell@aol.com, if you would like more information about my book.

Re: HARDEMAN Ella Mae and Newton J

In the Texas Birth Index, there is a record of Newton Jasper Hardeman's birth on May 17, 1919, in Wood County.

In the 1920 and 1930 Wood County, Texas censuses, Newton J. Hardeman is listed at seven months old in 1920, and at 10 years old in 1930, as a son of Warner S. (1920), Warren S. (1930) and Lura D. Hardeman, with siblings, Warren, Jr., and Ura Lee, daughter.

In the 1910 Wood County, Texas census, Warner S. Hardeman, 38, widowed, born in Texas, is listed with son, Harvey E., 10, and mother, Ella F. Hardeman, widowed, 64 years old, born in Alabama. So Warner had a first marriage before he married Lura.

I have not been able to find the family in the 1880 or 1900 censuses, although they were probably there, since Warren (Warner) was born in 1872 in Texas.

My great uncle was Newton Hardeman and had a twin brother, Jasper Hardeman, born in Giles County, Tennessee. Neither of them had a son, named Warren or Warner, nor a grandson named Warren or Warner that I have been able to find. However, it's quite a coincidence. This mystery is what makes genealogy so fascinating!

Hardeman family of Williamson County, Tennessee

I am seeking descendants of Peter Hardeman (1784-1820), son of Thomas Hardeman. Peter's son, Franklin "Frank" Hardeman (1815-1878) was the father of Peter Hardeman (b. about 1842). Frank and his wife, Catherine Carson Wilson, had 7 children. All were probably born in Williamson County, TN.

Eleazar and Elizabeth FOSTER HARDEMAN are my 5th great grandparents. I am descended through their daughter Nancy L. HARDEMAN who married Richard CRUNK in 1835 in Williamson Co., TN. Has anyone found a will for Eleazar? Does anyone have proof that James FOSTER (who married Martha DUPUY) is the father of Eleazar's wife, Elizabeth? I would appreciate any information on this family. Thank you.
