I have attached a story that my grandmother, Maggie Elizabeth Hardin Smith, wrote in 1959 about the day her grandfather, Joel P. Hardin, came to their house in Crawford County, KS. My tree name is Ford/Ryan/Smith. I will try to link it.

Here are the names of the people in the wagon train that I have been able to identify:

Joel P. Hardin (1825-1904)
Rachel Ann Durbin Hardin (born abt 1850), Joel's second wife
George H Hardin(born Sep 1887), Joel's youngest son
Zachary Hardin (born abt 1847), Joel's oldest son
Rachel Angeline Miller Hardin(born abt 1860), Zachary's wife

Zachary and Rachel's children:
John Taylor (born abt 1880)
George W. (born Sep 1883)
Martha W. (born Aug 1885)
Rebecca E (born Aug 1887)
Lucy C (born Apr 1890)
Leveret Leonard(born Jan 1892)
Elvera or Elverd (born Apr 1896)
Chester Gladstone (born abt 1902)

John Hays (born abt. 1875)and Jocinda Hardin Hays (born 29 Nov 1881, died 15 Dec 1971), Zachary's daughter and their first child, Elora Hays (born abt Aug. 1904)

I'm not sure who was in the fifth wagon. It was a nephew of Joel B. Hardin's. the wife's name was Artensis. Children: Tessie and Everett

The last two wagons were driven by single men. Albert Miller (born abt 1885), son of Pinkney and Rebekah Tomes Miller. The other was listed as a cousin,"Tony" Tomes. I have no idea who that was.
