Keziah Laird/Hardin

I am trying to find out the maiden name and parents of Keziah Laird/Hardin. Here is a summary of what I have on her so far:
born abt. 1813 in Kentucky

abt 1833 married Anderson Washington Hardin (had 10 children begining in 1830's to 1860's)

1st husband dies between 1856 and 1860.

She is listed as head of household in 1860 census (with seven of the 10 children she had with AW Hardin) on the property right next door (next census listing) to Nathaniel Laird. Nathaniel was listed as living in Arkansas with 5 of his children from his two previous marriages. No wife was listed.

in 1880 She is living in Denton, Tx and is listed as the wife of Washington Lard ("Laird"). The next census entry is Keziah's son Harvey P Hardin (my 2xgreat grandfather)and his wife Eliza and their son.

She died in 1886 in Hamilton, Texas.

If you have a suggestion for me on where to go next to find information about her parents, please email me:
clohse@lohseinc.com

I would like to correspond with anyone familiar with the Quinton and Mary Elizabeth Hardin Family. They were listed in the September 25, 1860 census of Pontotoc, Pontotoc county, MS. They were living in the community of Randolph, MS.

They were the parents of eleven children. The 9th child is named Abel Hardin. I think this may be my husband's great grandfather. His name was Abel Crosley Hardin, born 16 Dec. 1858 and died 22 Feb. 1908. He married Martha Vann Stegall on Jan. 18, 1882, she was born 7 Jan. 1861 and died 31 May 1941. They are both buried in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Pontotoc, MS.

Joel P. Hardin (1825-1904) b: Breckenridge Co, KY D: Crawford Co, KS

Joel is my great-great-grandfather. I have May 3, 1825 as his birth, and he died on Nov. 26, 1904. (The covered wagon story is about his move to KS right before he died.) He married Lucinda Basham in 1847 first and Rachel Ann Durbin second in 1885. Family tradition says that his father's name was also Joel. We do not have a tradition on his mother's name. Family Record Collection says his parents were Joel Hardin and Abigail Rawlings. I have gone over the 1830 and 1840 censuses for this family and he doesn't fit. They did have a son born in 1825 that was still at home in the 1850 census. His name was William Nelson Hardin. They have another son that was born in 1820. I thought perhaps we had great-great-grandpa's birthdate wrong, but I believe this is Daniel Hardin who was born in 1820 in Breckenridge and did move to the same county in Missouri that Joel H. Hardin family moved to in the 1860's.

Who was my Joel P. Hardin's father then?

I'd love to hear from any distant cousins. I am a descendant of Joel P. Hardin's son, Joel B.

I have attached a story that my grandmother, Maggie Elizabeth Hardin Smith, wrote in 1959 about the day her grandfather, Joel P. Hardin, came to their house in Crawford County, KS. My tree name is Ford/Ryan/Smith. I will try to link it.

http://trees.ancestry.com/fhs/home.aspx?tid=7536734&pg=2

Here are the names of the people in the wagon train that I have been able to identify:

Joel P. Hardin (1825-1904)
Rachel Ann Durbin Hardin (born abt 1850), Joel's second wife
George H Hardin(born Sep 1887), Joel's youngest son
Zachary Hardin (born abt 1847), Joel's oldest son
Rachel Angeline Miller Hardin(born abt 1860), Zachary's wife

Zachary and Rachel's children:
John Taylor (born abt 1880)
George W. (born Sep 1883)
Martha W. (born Aug 1885)
Rebecca E (born Aug 1887)
Lucy C (born Apr 1890)
Leveret Leonard(born Jan 1892)
Elvera or Elverd (born Apr 1896)
Chester Gladstone (born abt 1902)

John Hays (born abt. 1875)and Jocinda Hardin Hays (born 29 Nov 1881, died 15 Dec 1971), Zachary's daughter and their first child, Elora Hays (born abt Aug. 1904)

I'm not sure who was in the fifth wagon. It was a nephew of Joel B. Hardin's. the wife's name was Artensis. Children: Tessie and Everett

The last two wagons were driven by single men. Albert Miller (born abt 1885), son of Pinkney and Rebekah Tomes Miller. The other was listed as a cousin,"Tony" Tomes. I have no idea who that was.

HTH

Becki Ford Ryan

Seeking Harden Familly Banner Elk or Shawneehaw NC

I am the grandson of Pauline Harden(maiden name) born 1908 died 1982.She married Joseph Henderer in 1929. She was the youngest of her brothers and sisters. I know that two of her brothers names were Alonzo and Willie. She was the youngest and was adoped out to the Lowe family in Tionesta PA. She was susposedly half Indian(maybe cherokee?)and born in either Banner Elk or Shawneehaw NC. I live in PA and have no family ties with any relatives in NC. I am looking to contact one of my relatives in the hope of finding information on my family line. Since my Grandma was bitter about the adoption she never spoke of her parents or Grand parents. Her father was said to have witnessed a murder and was going to testify but was killed by a family member of the accused when my Grandmother was very young. My Great Grandma could not afford all the children so the Lowe family of Tionesta PA adopted her. My Aunt Louise Ames had some information but she is deceased and unfortunately she had a fire before she passed loosing all personal information. Thank you

I am looking for any information on a Mattie Hardin (my gg grandmother) who would have been born around 1866. She married in Tallahatchie County, MS to an A. J. Huffman (my gg grandfather) on December 13, 1891. She was widowed sometime in the late 1890’s and had a little girl named Sarah Ophelia Huffman (my great grandmother) who was born March, 1896. In the 1900 Tallahatchie County Census, it mentions that she was widowed and she was a dressmaker. I don’t know what happened to her after this but her daughter was put in the orphanage in Yalobusha County, MS and she was then put in a foster home in Blue Springs, MS to William and Mary Jones. Nancy Jane was born on Nov 22 1838 in Guilford County, North Carolina to Samuel Amick, son of Peter & Mary Brower Amick, and Sarah Minerva Fields-Bowlin-Overby. Sarah was not married to Samuel ever. Two years after the birth of Nancy, she married Green Bowlin. He died before the 1850 census and in 1853, she married Charles Overby. Any information on William Would be helpful. We do know also that he was born in Randolph County, do to a marriage record. ANY INFORMATION WOULD BE HELPFUL, Please!!

John Wilbain Hardin was born on Jan 5, 1891 in Monterey, Cross County, Arkansas and died on Dec 16, 1959 (buried in Covington, Tennessee). He was married to Ada Lee (?), and they had seven children, one of whom is my fiancee's grandmother - Madeline Hardin (b.Nov 10, 1911 m. James Robert Brown Apr 2 1927 d. Aug 19, 1977).

I am looking for information John Wilbain Hardin, such as his parents names, brothers and sisters, etc. This is as far back as I can find. I have been told that he was melungeon (?sp?), but I have been unable to confirm that. I was also told that Madeline Hardin Brown had an OLD family Bible that listed everything, but when she died it disappeared.

I would greatly appreciate any info you may have. Thanks.

HARDIN John W - Rebecca - William T - Hot Spring Co AR

I'm trying to find any connection of these Hardins found in the early marriage records to my Hardin family of the same area. Marriage records show John W Hardin, age 48, of Prairie Township, Hot Spring county, Arkansas married Gemmia Beason, age 25, of the same township on 1 Sep 1848. Gemmia (Jemina/Jemima?) was no doubt a 2nd or so wife.
Also listed in marriages is Rebecca Hardin to Thomas Phillips on 26 Jun 1853 and a William T Hardin to Mary Harrison on 8 Oct 1855. I am not sure that these Hardins stayed in the Hot Spring county area.
Does anyone has these Hardins in their records that could share info with me and possibly connect to my Hardins? Thanks. Marsha

How ever the first name is spelled, my ancestor repeatedly said he was born in AL on censuses. His birth date is from 1810 to 1820 on various censuses, each different. He married a descendant of "Fightin Charlie Reese" in Giles County, TN, and moved to Lincoln County, TN, by 1850. He lived in that county until he was kicked in the head by a mule and died as a result. He was 78 according to his brief obit. That was in 1898, making his bd in 1820. I have found only one Hardin who was a land owner in AL by 1823, but I have no proof that the Thomas Hardin who got land in Cahaba is his father. He did name his oldest son John Thomas, so it is possible this is his father's name.

If any one has any information on Thomas or Epps Hardin, I'd love to hear from them. Even if your information indicates another father, I'd be thrilled to hear from you. This brick wall needs to be broken down. It has stood far too long!

Lolene

Samuel D. Hardin/en/ing b.ca 1822 TN d.prob 1910-1920 TX

Most of my info is
from census
Samuel D. HARDIN/EN/ING b. Aug., 1822 TN
By 1850 I find him in Anderson Co., TX in the household of his sister,
Medlina?(Melinda), and brother-in-law, James William PETERS/PETTUS. Also
there is his mother Margaret R.or B. I found in the 1840 census of Bedford
Co., TN a Margaret HARDIN as head of household with a daughter in house.
These ages fit "my Margaret" and her daughter.
In the 1860 census for Anderson Co., TX I find him married to
Catherine?(possibly MOSLEY/MOSELEY since on the 1850 census, a Catherine
MOSLEY/MOSELEY was the only unmarried "Catherine" in the county in the
correct age range and was shown about 3 households away from where Sam lived
in 1850.On the 1860 census they are shown with 4 children with birth years
from about 1852 to 1860. Did Catherine die from complications of the birth
of the last child?
By the 1870 census of Anderson Co., TX he was married to Mary Isabella
WYLIE, and they are shown with 2 children in the household of Thomas
GARLAND. I believe they later parented 3 other children. Mary died
12-31-1872 after they relocated to Erath Co., TX..
The 1880 and 1900 census show him in Erath Co., TX with yet another wife,
Jemima Jane GAILEY and I show they produced 7 children.
I didn't find him after 1900, so I suppose he died between 1900-1910.
My great-grandmother was a child of the first marriage.
With this many wives and children, there should be at least another
descendant searching him!!
Hardin

"Bud" Hardin d. 1891? m. Lizzie Lewis. He was her 2/h. 1/h-__ Thour, 3/h-Joe Burrrow, 4/h-__Coleman.
They had 4 children.
1. John b. 1868?. John threw a corn sheller at a man who was cussing him. He was hit in the head and died. John served 3 years in jail. This happened in Jonesboro ,Ark. (I asked my grandmother if she had this mixed up with her cousin, John Wesley Hardin, but she denied it. However, she was up in years at this time and could have it confused.
2. Mary Frances b. 1870 Paragould Ark., d. winter 1898 m. John Thomas Doby (Dobie).
3. Sylvia b. 1872 m. Sam Smith
4. Sarah b. 8 August 1874 m. Samuel Ivie
Their children were:
a. Eva (Vera ?)
b. Earl---dau., Joyce m. Ralph Fox
TWINS Pearl
c. Sally

Children by 1/h Thour were Harriet and Laura who married Bill Johnson.
Children by 3/h Joe Burrow were Louis m. Mary Hanson and Martha m. Thomas Bobbit.
Children by 4/h -Coleman--none

So Lizzie's full name (so far as I know) was lizzie Lewis Thour Hardin Burrow Coleman!

"Bud" Hardin had another marriage but I don't know if it was his first or second or whatever but I think it was after 1874 and it would have been possibly his 2/w. Their children were:
1. Lou m. John Ackins
2. Annie m. Albert Oliver
3. Bell m. Frank Lee
4. Syrenia d. young
5. John
6. Armenda m. Bert Emmons
7. ?
8. Harvey
9. Tommy
10. ?
11. ?
12. ?

Mary Frances Hardin m. John Thomas Doby (Dobie) and their youngest daughter, Gertrude Ann Dobie m. Amos Forrest Gilley. These are my grandparents. See Doby on this Surname Message Board.

I have a lot of info on Hardins and John Wesley Hardin. My grandmother said he was her cousin but until I can find out "Buds" real name I have a problem. Hope someone out there can help me.

While tracing data on my HARDEN/IN relations, I happened to notice that 2 Hardens - Isam H. Harden and William C. Harden (1914-1956 buried at Crosbyton TX) died in Ector County, TX, on the same day, April 2, 1956, and have consecutive death certificate numbers, 18841 & 42. One can only assume some terrible accident resulted in these deaths - can someone please advise if the Odessa newspapers have an article or obits explaining what really happened and the relationship of these 2 family members.

Does anyone know these HARDENS? Sons or close relations to William Christian Harden who is a son of Moses Harden and Sarah Capers Christian (of GA). GA>TX late 1870s

I will gladly pay for a copy and postage for any information or any leads to help solve this mystery

John William Hardin

Hello, I believe my great great Grandfather who sigbed his name as John Hardin on documents was really John William Hardin. He was born in 1771 that he claimed was Kentucky, USA. It may have not occurred to people to ask him when Kentucky became a state? People are trusting by nature. It was not until I began studying genealogy, that I found out that Kentucky and Tennessee were but Indian territories on a map when John was born. I have no family bible to compare to,for needed information. My ancestors may well have been the ones down on their luck who were sent to the Colonies, here for being debtors and poor people in a bad situation named Hardin or Harden.
I've never expected to hook our families' name to French royalty or any such Du Suchshoy's. Let alone the famous Mark Hardin's or Joseph Hardin's. We are of the poorer relations, known as the Hardin's. Maybe of Hickory Creek? N>C.? Perhaps New York or Pennsylvania? I just don't know?
Hard working Hardin's who are fun loving, house building carpenters. Sure we had our own homw made stills out in the woods. Loved hunting and fishing. Raised big families and married many times over. We are the backbone of America.

I swear my great great Granddad must have been known as Walking John Hardin. He may have run all over early Arkansas and Oklahoma territory looking for land to own. That man was never home! He was more than a farmer! Old John is my BRICKWALL!!

"Hickory Creek" Hardins of Tryon/Lincoln/Rutherford Cos., NC

Greetings, fellow Hardin researchers,

I wonder if anyone could either confirm or refute my hypothesis that the Hardins of western NC (the so-called "Hickory Creek" and "Buffalo Creek" Hardins of Old Tryon, Lincoln, and Rutherford counties) are descended from the French Huguenot Martin Hardewyn and his wife Madeline du Sauchoy.

From various sources I've gleaned the idea that the first Hardin settlers in this area of western NC (brothers Jonathan, Benjamin, and David Hardin, sons of Jospeh Hardin of Orange Co., NC) were Martin Hardewyn's great grandsons through his son Benjamin.

Can anyone shed any light on this possible connection for me?

Thanks!

-J.L.

Hardins,, Lafayette , John Wesley (OutLaw)

Hi My Family History goes like this.
Samuel Hardin born Fayette County Kentucky. Married Patsey Brown ,February 23, 1825 in Morgan County Kentucky.

There children where
John Burns Hardinb/ 1826 / Lydia Caskey
Amanda Smith Hardin. born about 1830 m/ Thomas Caskey
Andrew Jackson Hardin, b/ 1834 m/ Julia Donahue m2/ Lydia Perry.
Isaac Newton Hardin Born/ 1836

Andrew Jackson Hardin and Julia Also named there Child Lafayette Hardin. Lafe spelled his name Harden.
A old family story told by me grandmother, is that Great Uncle Lafe and John Wesley Hardin (Famous Outlaw) use to run around together and get in trouble. And that from time to time they would stay at Grandpa Alfred's home, and Alfred would charge them, 50 cents a night for a room (Saying he wasn't a hotel). Alfred lived in Rowan County kentucky.
I have never been able to find the relationship to John Wesley. and my Grandfather Alfred and his brother Lafe. Grandma calls John Wesley are cousin. Great Uncle Lafe was born in Morgan county kentucky. However, he married Matilda Catherine Combs in Buchanan County Virgina. Where he lived and died. Is there a connection with John Wesley Hardin family to Buchanan County Virgina. Or Fayette County Kentucky. Lafe was born February 08, 1861 in Morgan county kentucky. I thought if funny, reading you also had a Lafayette Hardin in your family. So I had to take the time to ask.
I have a question? John E Hardin is the son of Moses J Hardin. Now on the 1880 Census it has him with a Sarah with two children a James A Hardin, 4 at the time, and John Hardin, who is 2. Now on the 1900 Census he is with a Sarah J and it says they were married for 20 years and she had 8 of 8 children. Did he marry a second time. James A Hardin's death certificate list John Hardin as Elija Hardin and his mother as Sarah Ann Lamberson. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Brandy

You would think with a name like that Epps Hardin would be easy to trace, but so far I have found zero. He lived next door to a Winnie Hardin who was born in SC in Lincoln County,TN in 1850 according to the census. He named a daughter Winnie, and my ancestor John, son to Epps, named his daughter Winnie. The first Winnie was born ca 1800, and Epps was born ca 1819.

Any help would be appreciated.

Lolene

HARDIN

I am having difficulty tracking down my gggrandfather. His name was Benjamin M. Hardin b. 1842 Butler co. Ohio d. Keokuk Iowa. I have documentation that he lived in Ft. Dodge Iowa. He was a doctor, minister, farmer and ran a local newspaper. His father was John Hardin b. 1827 Ft. Dodge IA. Mother Nancy. Grandfather James Hardin b. 6-1-1801, grandmother Susan. Benjamin died treating an epidemic. I have recently found letters that indicated that he was first married to a Molly and had at least 2 children with her, one of which was called "Nettie". He bought a house in Ft. dodge in 1875. I know that he was married to an Anna P. Withrow and had a son Richard Withrow Hardin ( my ggrandfather) 1-12-1879 in Ft. Dodge, IA. Can anyone help me?

HUGH R. HARDIN, 1849-1912

I am trying to find the parents of Hugh R. Hardin. He was born 31 Mar 1849 in Georgia. He died 4 Sept 1912 in Covington County, Mississippi. His first wife was Savana Quinn (daughter of Oliver Quinn). His second wife was Mamie Stewart. HR Hardin and Mamie Stewart are buried near Sanford, Covington County, Mississippi. I believe this Hugh is listed 1860 census in Gordon County, Georgia at age 12 living with a Mary Hardin age 64. In the 1870 census he is 22 and living with the same Mary - however in the 1850 census he is not. Could this Mary be a grandmother? Am interested in any information that can help me.
