I am searching for the HARDMAN line from GA. My mother was Daisy Juanita Hardman Stumph b.21 OCT 1915 Bainbridge, Decatur Co., GA d. 13 SEPT 1994 Jacksonville, Duval Co. FL. Her father was Edward Jackson Hardman b.24 JUN 1895 Columbus, Muskogee Co., GA d. 15 JAN 1957 Jacksonville, Duval Co., FL Edward's father was G.(Gus?) S. Hardman-no dates yet. who married Ella (HOUSTON?)-no dates. I know from oral family history that my grandfather would take his family to visit a HOUSTON family somewhere in or around Macon, GA. I'm guessing(assuming) these were his mother's people. I have pix of them but no names. Can anyone shed some light on these people for me?

Trying to establish family's names of these Hardman who went to WV between 1800 & 1810. Major Henry Hardman died intestate in 1794. I found MD Archives data his sisters & brother as follows: Margaret Razer, Joseph, Mrs.? w/o Wm. Crum, Catherine Myers, and possibly 1st Lt. John Hardman who d. 1790 of wounds received at Battle of Camden. Thomas & Jane may also be of this family. Any others? From whom do they descend, & where? When in USA? Did one of the Hardman men have a son named Henry who would have been b. about 1800-1810 who later m. Mary Bice & lived w/ their 7 children in Clarksburg, Harrison, Co. abt. 1835 to abt. 1850 when Henry is presumably dead, missing from 1850 Distr. 22 Census. Children orphaned by 1860. Have some later data on them.

It is reported in many places that my GGGgrandfather, Joseph Michael Hardman III, is buried in the Mt. Olive Baptist Cemetery near Reedyville, Roane County, WV. Recently, I could not find a marker for him in the cemetery. Does anyone know if there is/was a marker for him or the location of his grave site in the cemetery? Thanks in advance for any help.

I am researching the death of Leon RENAKER in Clark County, Kentucky. The accused killers of Renaker were Scobee HARDMAN and Reese FOX. Could these be the same Scobee? I know that the accused was son of Lee & Minnie HARDMAN.

Contact me at BourbonCountian@aol.com if interested.

DAVE REDDEN

Scobee Hardman

I have found a Scobee Hardman in KY that I am interested in. Why is his 1st name Scobee? There must be some connection to the Scobee family, and during his murder trial, Judge Scobee refused to sit in because he admitted he was related. I can find no relationship so I'm missing something. Scobee's parents were Lee and Mary ? Snowden Hardman, and his grandparents were David and Maranda ?Hardman and John A. & Mary J. Snowden. Was either Maranda or Mary J. born a Scobee??? Can anyone answer this puzzle?
jomorgan@swbell.net

Could anyone please help me getting past this log jam. My G/G/grandfather Lot was born in Pendlebury Lancs, England in 1844 and died in 1911. I have an old photo of his and his wife, Ann's, grave. He appears on the 1881 and 1891 census.

I am related to his son Thomas who died at 21 but I believe there were sibblings - perhaps Daniel, Sophia (Rose?) and John. I have another old photo of a grave of Royal Engineer (Sapper) John Hardman who is recorded as the son of Lat and Ann Hardman. I really dont have anymore info and would like to get further if I could.

If anyone does link up with this I can provide plenty of oral history as to Tom's descendent. Thanks.

Nancy Hardman b. 1779

I have a question regarding Nancy Hardman b. 17 Dec 1779. She was married to Eli Stedman and had several children including Joshuay Stedman whose line I descend from. My question is that I have located a number of web resources that state she was born in Schenectady, NY. Her father and mother were supposedly both born in VA and her brothers and sisters appear to have been born in VA, SC and GA. This obviously seems out of place. If there is anyone who has other data on her place of birth, I would appreciate hearing from you.

HARDMAN DNA

Is there anyone interested in trying to find out their Hardman line through one of the DNA projects? There is no DNA project at this time set-up for the Hardman surname. My family is at a dead end (and has been for some time) with our George E. Hardman born 28 Jul 1811 (VA or WVA). He married Elizabeth Pendleton, in Clark County, KY 1836.

FamilyTree DNA - http://www.familytreedna.com/surname.asp

GeneBase: http://www.dnaancestryproject.com/ydna_intro_howto.php

I'm thinking of trying to get my brother to take the DNA test for this Hardman line.

I am transcribing the Evergreen Cemetary in Ontario, Malheur Co., Oregon and thought I would post pictures of the Pre-1900 headstones for those interested in having them. This is a very large cemetary, there is a possibility there could be other family members buried here after this time period. If you are interested in them, I can look for them specifically.

Hardmans from LANCASHIRE/MANCHESTER

For many years I have researched on and off into my Lancashire relations. The basic, direct, line is as follows:

Philippa Mary Hardman b 11.09.1984 Chichester, UK
Matthew Hardman b 28.02.1983 Chichester, UK

(John) Richard Hardman b 22.10.1955 South Africa
* this is me

Bryan Brocas Hardman b 20.09.1920 Deal, Kent

Gerald Walton Hardman b 08.03.1891 Deal, Kent
(married Cicely Ackland), brothers: Philip & Basil

Frederick William Hardman b. 21.08.1860 Davyhulme, Manchester (married Constance Walton). Siblings:
Thomas, Clarissa, Catherine, Samuel Henry, Francis

Samuel Healey Hardman b. 17.08.1831, Manchester
(married Alice Whatmough) Siblings: Mary

?Thomas Hardman b 12.10.1800 Kirkham, Lancashire (married Clarissa Healey; Mary Taylor)

???John Hardman m Mary/Molly/Molley (possibly also Hardman)????

Apart from any more details on the Hardmans
pre-1820, I am also searching for my great, great uncle Francis Hardman b. 09.11.1873 still living at home in Davyhulme in 1901census aged 27. Evidently Francis had a cocaine habit - is mentioned in correspondence between two of his brothers in about 1914, suggesting that he was no longer living
in Manchester and was possibly even abroad - of course this was during WW1 but there are no suggestions that he had joined up. Can anyone help??

Good luck to everyone else researching their Hardman relations!

Richard Hardman

HARDMAN / COLLINS / YATES / PARIS

I am searching for any information on my COLLINS & HARDMAN family. And, anything on the YATES & PARIS families also. The information I have is very vague except for these dates of Lottie COLLINS & James or David HARDMAN children:

Samuel N. Hardman b. June 12, 1876
Nettie Ree Hardman b. Nov. 9, 1877
George D. Hardman b. Dec. 31, 1883
Ellen D. Hardman b. Nov. 18, 1885

David B. Hardman died Dec. 19, 1896
Louis W. Hardman died March 23, 1893
Emma L. Hardman can't make the date out

I am hoping someone will be able to help me. On my great-grandmother's, Nettie Ree HARDMAN death record....it states her parents were Dave Hardman & Lottie COLLINS. This is all I have: Lottie Ann Collins-Hardman married a YATES after Dave Hardman died. Lottie Ann Yates died Jan. 15, 1930. Robert Yates b. Aug. 7, 1891 died Mar. 4, 1921, William Yates b. Feb. 4, 1893 Noel Yates b. April 8, 1890 and there was the name Ben Yates....with no other info.

Her name was Charlotte and she went by LOTTIE. Then I don't know if my ancestor's names is James David or David James HARDMAN. I asked a relative who said this was all she had ...that she has seen it written both ways.

Minnie COLLINS married ? Conway. Macy COLLINS married ? Crume This is how it was wriiten down in my great-grandmother's notes. No dates...no other info. It's as if my ancestor started to keep records but just didn't follow through.

There was also a mention of a Ellen H. Paris being a half sister in my great-grandmother, Nettie Ree Hardman's Obituary......and George Hardman was mentioned.....brother of James or David Hardman.

Can anyone help me? I realize this information is not a lot to go on.

Thank You!

Linda Farris Antal - cantal@cinci.rr.com
Newbie question about using this site

Hi

I am trying to trace my father’s family. My parents (Edward and Mary Hardman) split up when I was 2 years old (1945-6) and I have consequently lost touch with my fathers side of the family.

I remember having a cousin called Jean Quinn whose maiden name was Marshal and her mother’s maiden name would have been Hardman, my father’s sister. They lived in the Broughton area of Salford. I can’t remember the name of the street however; I lived in Fred Street near Marlborough Road School. Jean Quinn consequently moved to St Annes on Sea with her husband Bill which was the last time I had contact with her. I seem to remember her having two sons and possibly a daughter? She ran a holiday apartment business in St Annes.

Jeans mother had brothers (besides my father Edward Hardman) one of whose wife I remember having sever arthritis and I think her name was Bertha. I think they had a son called John Hardman. And I believe Jeans mother and my father had another brother called George Hardman who was killed in the bombing of Manchester during the war. There was also addition sisters and brothers but I can’t remember their names.

I am not sure if I have got all this correct as you can imagine I have only heard this through my mother Mary Hardman a long time ago. She died in 1992. I do not know the dates of birth of either my mother or father. All of the above is vague memories of stories as told to me by my mother and my older sister Iris Riley nee Hardman.

I tried to use the search features but I think I must be doing something wrong as I can’t even find my own birth or marriage details let along my parents and sister’s or even my wifes details on this site. Can anyone help me to get started please?

I hope I have given you enough information.

Thanks and regards

Edward Hardman born in Blackpool Sept 30 1943
I am informed Mary Alice was disowned by the well to do Hardman family when she married into my lowly family! Apparently there was some litigation in the 1940's to try and get the inheritance!
Obit: Col Henry Hardman d. Nov. 14, 1879

Col. Henry Hardman was born in Harrison county, Va., in March, 1801; died at his home in Rochester township, Cedar county, Iowa, Nov. 14, 1879. He was one of the first settlers of Cedar county, having located on the farm which he died, July 6, 1836 – a little more than forty-three years before his death. His house was the first preaching place, and the organization of the first class in the M. E. church in Cedar county, he and his wife being among the first members. Here, too, has held the first quarterly meeting ever held in Cedar county, at which Bro. H. and his wife entertained and fed seventy persons with their teams. He was appointed the first justice of the peace in the county, which office he held for twenty consecutive years; took the census of the county for government in 1840, and was colonel of the militia several years. Bro. H. married Mary Searl in 1821, who shared with him the hardships of a pioneer life, and who preceded him to rest Sept. 15, 1872. He was married again in 1873 to Mrs. Mary Perkey, who survives. Bro. H. was fully prepared for his demise, both as to this and the future world; he had his house “set in order,” and welcomed death with calmness and even cheerfulness. His remains were followed to the church, where his funeral sermon was preached by the writer of this sketch (I. W. Kynett) at his request, and thence to the grave, by a procession about one mile in length, showing the esteem in which he was held by a large circle of friends and neighbors.

From the Northwestern Christian Advocate: Wednesday, June 30, 1880

Hardman - 1882 - Newport, Ohio
THE FREEPORT PRESS

Pub. Thurs. Feb. 16, 1882
Harrison Co., OH

The trouble at Newport, Tuscarawas county, Ohio, an account of which was given in the PRESS last week turns out not to be as disastrous after all.

The trouble arose in this way : Young Elmer Hardman, who is represented to be the illegitimate son of John Hardman, was being teased by the old man respecting his parentage, when the lad threw a small piece of wood at him, making a slight cut on the forehead, and which is now about well.

The old man is not totally blind, and has not been in the Poor-House for ten years.

************************

Courtesy post - not related

Washington Hardman, Orange Co., Indiana

I am looking for some clarification on the children of Washington Hardman, born 1812/1813 in Kentucky and lived in Orange Co., Indiana. He was married to Sarah Tegarden. The confusion comes in the census of 1860 and 1870 Indiana. He lives next door to his brother John and I am wondering if the children were mixed up or lived either place at times. Help!!!
