Hello Eric,
Joseph Napoleon Hardy was born in Natchitoches, LA, not New Orleans. He moved to New Orleans later with his mother, brother Charles Hardy, and stepbrother Auguste Roy, Jr. I am descended from Joseph N.'s youngest child Hazel Hardy who married George Wedemeyer II. She is my great grandmother. I and another Hardy descendant, my third cousin Pam, have lots of info.
Please contact me.

Nicole Wedemeyer Miller

Frank Rae HARDY m. Grace __________ in CA. Frank was born 9 Oct 1889 in Denver, Arapahoe, Colorado. He died 15 May 1966 in Long Beach, Los Angeles, CA. I have them on the L.A., CA census for 1910, and he's 20, she's 19. Then his WWI draft reg. card shows he had a wife 'and child'. I'm interested in finding out the child's name, and anymore about this family. My email is kshart99@hotmail.com thank you! Frank was my Dad's step-Dad. My Dad is still living, and is 90 years old.

HARDY and BOWNES

My great-grandparents, George Henry Hardy and Annie Bownes came to America in the 1880's. George was born in 1859 and Annie was born in 1860, both in Derbyshire. George's parents were Robert Hardy and Fanny Trueman. Annie's parents were James Bownes and Mary Ann Lee. I would appreciate any information about their ancestry. I am especially curious to know what happened to the family they left behind in England. Thanks.

Hi

Now I've come to check my records I don't think we're talking about the same ancestors, although the details are remarkably similar.

My ancestor's brother, James Bownes, married an Elizabeth Lee in Wingerworth, Derbyshire, in 1833. They later lived in Lincolnshire and following James' death his widow and children emigrated to America in the 1850s.

So not the same family after all !

Kind regards

David

I am Very interested in your Erastus HARDY. Could he have had a sister named Susannah? I have Susannah HARDY born 1826 in New York. She married James W MISNER who was born in Watertown, Jefferson Co., NY. They moved to Gosper and Furnas Co., NE by 1880. They lived in Theresa, Jefferson Co., NY in 1850, Gennesee twp Waukesha Co., WI in 1860, Floyd Co., IA in 1870 and East Muddy Precint, Furnas Co., NE in 1880. They came with their children: James M MISNER,(born 1846 NY) Erastus Hardy MISNER, (born 1847 NY) Gilbert Valentine MISNER (1851 Jefferson Co., NY) and Charles William MISNER (born in WI in 1861). I have census records for Hardys in NY with the names of Gilbert, Charles and Erastus. I know my Susannah has to be connected to them in some way but cant find the connection. I think she might be a daughter to Charles J HARDY and Susannah PICKARD but have no proof. If you can shed some light on this, I would really appreciate it. Thanks for any help.
Hello, I am just getting into searching my family. I'm sure someone is going to tell me to go to my local library. I am in Southern, IN where my grandfather (Samuel A Hardy) and his father (can't think of his name right now) but was wondering if anyone has come across Hardy's migrating to IN? Maybe some from the group that migrated to KY came north.

Thanks.
Becky Hardy~Dixon

Re: Thomas Henry Hardy of Richhill (Armagh) Northern Ireland

I think this may be a relative of mine as well.

My great-grandfather was called Claude Hardy and moved from Northern Ireland to the North of England (a place called Cheshire). All of his money was from linen and the textiles trade. In 1905 somebody called Thomas Henry Hardy shut down something called the Hulme Weaving Company in Manchester. This man would have been born in about 1855.

I have also discovered that somebody caleld Thomas Henry Hardy 'proved' the will of James North Hardy in 1875, I believe this man is my great-great-grandfather.

Furthermore probate was granted to Thomas Henry Hardy J.P. for someone called Alexander Hardy in 1914:

Title:
Forename: Alexander
Surname: Hardy
Alt Surname:
Date Of Death: 15/12/1913
Date Of Grant: 23/02/1914
Effects: Effects £2,085 19s. 5d.
Registry: Armagh

Full Abstract:
Probate of the Will of Alexander Hardy late of Richhill County Armagh Traveller who died 15 December 1913 at Drumcondra Dublin granted at Armagh to Thomas Henry Hardy J.P. and William James Hardy Chemist

I can tell you that J.P. stand for Justice of the Peace. That means that he was a magistrate, a non-lawyer who sits part-time as a judge in minor criminal and family cases, they still have them in England and Wales. Not sure about UDC but it's bound to have something to do with Ulster.

Anyway you can email me on maxhardy@hotmail.com if you want to compare further notes.
Sampson was married to Lavinia Sykes Hardy (maiden name unknown) but I cannot trace any record of their marriage, which presumably took place before the birth of their first child Henry in 1840.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Becky,
I only posted here in this thread because of Fred Norton's post. His Hardy's ended up in same county (Hot Spring) in AR as ours did. Unfortunately, I think Fred has passed away and probably will never see my post. Fred, like me, was grasping at straws, I certainly do not mean to preempt Marianne's posts about her KY Hardy's. Hopefully, she will see your post since you refer to KY as possible source of your Hardy's in IN. That said, you can certainly look at the 1820 census of our suspected William Hardy family in Humphrey's Co., TN if you google for it. There were 4 or 5 children there, of which I think our Benjamin may have been one. Where all the offspring went is anybody's guess. The James Hardy estate I referred to was found in Benton Co., TN which was formed from part of Humphreys Co. Some could have gone north to KY. In fact, our family's earlier researcher (Valeria Hardy) before she passed away told my mother that her research was more-or-less brickwalled at this Benjamin Hardy, but that she suspected that his line may have come down from KY (and probably VA before that) rather than straight to TN from VA. No proof at all though do I have to back that up. Personally, my gut feeling for what it is worth tells me that Benjamin was related to both William and James somehow (maybe Wm. was father of both), and that they came from VA before TN because of later censuses of Benjamin's offspring that say where parents were born.

Terry,

My Hardy connection begins with Rufus Hardy, born about 1807 in Ohio, and his wife, Nancy [maiden name unknown], born about 1817 in Pennsylvania. I did the same thing regarding their approximate date of marriage, about 1831, based on the date of birth of their first born, Gildrop M. Hardy, born in Ohio about 1832.

I do not know any siblings of Rufus, or his parentage. Nor do I have either Sampson or Evaline Isabel Hardy in our files. Let me know if you need further information regarding a possible connection between Rufus and your Hardy family?
